Is there any legitimacy to theory and cultural studies that would make it an academic program worth pursuing (as an undergraduate)?

Would I be better off forgoing theory, getting undergraduate training in, say, analytic philosophy, and reading into sociopolitical affairs, cultural and media studies, film theory, etc. on my own?

Something unrelated I learned today: Chomsky replies to every email he receives so long as it's not complete bait. Go figure.

It's worthless because it's easier to acquire and you don't want to spend the next four years being slowly spoonfed with material you could get on your own in a matter of months. Get a real degree and eventually steal the target courses' bibliographies and syllabi in case you need a starting point.

I'd go two years for a million dollars without internet or tv. How hard would that be? Just take a shitload of books and board games or fuck even some role playing games for fun.
>>
>>8015893
fucking obviously, what the fuck is 2 months for 1 million dollars?
it looks sweet as hell.

What are John Barth's best novels? Where should I start? I rarely see /lit talking about this man.

Let me sing my soul, love.
I'll sing about you, dove.
I can't solve my problems
Or buy you any roses
I'll tell you how I feel.
and how the light you steal.
For it's my heart, my dear,
the one that sings so clear.
I love you, believe it,
so tell me where's your clit.

the old greek told me in a story across time
that way back when
you and i were one
and we rivaled the gods
and them fearing us
tore us in half and forced us to walk separate
how much sweeter it is now that we join, in lip and loin
and our hearts yearn for each other
desparate for the memory of blissful union
love you babycakes

Ambrose Bierce > Poe

From iwkwipdeia:
H. P. Lovecraft characterized Bierce's fictional work as "grim and savage." Lovecraft goes on to say that nearly all of Bierce's stories are of the horror genre and some shine as great examples of weird fiction.

The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Kuhn is a good place to start when attempting to survey any scientific discipline. After that, as long as you have accurate data and evidence you should be able to produce independent evaluations of scientific theories, especially if they're apt to always be wrong.

>15 years and stagnant global temperatures unlike what every climate model predicted
>but climate scientists still receive huge public funding
>the discipline seems just as corrupt as economics

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.
