Just finished Kafka on the Shore. Which Murakami book do I read next? I read Wind Up Bird Chronicle a few years ago and remember being thoroughly underwhelmed. But this was beautiful and rich. Should I give WUBC another try, or move on to some other work?
kafka and hardboiled wonderland are my favorites
so i would reccomend hardboiled wonderland
or maybe one of the more realism or love story based books like norweigan wood. my favorite style of his is the kind of fantasy style he used in kafka.
1q84 is also very good
i read the wind up bird once and remember liking it but its hard to dredge up much of what i got from it whereas with kafka the story is so colourful and amusing that i can remember a lot more of that book. i tried rereading wind up and couldnt get very far. the great and bad thing about wind up is that it expresses very well the feelings of stillness or mundanity that come with not having a job or not too much to do.

French to English isn't that huge a leap, so it can be with a competent enough translator who specializes in poetry. Baudelaire himself translated Poe into French so I don't think he'd necessarily disapprove of being translated into English.

Her works are utter shit in prose and content.
Furthermore, she included in her serious the spell "Avada Kedavra", which is the killing curse (for non-readers) and cannot be stopped with any known shielding spell. How do you internalize philosophy or very prose-heavy writing, and then apply it to life?
I feel as if i am only recognizing what i am reading on the surface and am not absorbing the ideas presented to me in word fully, and so am wasting my time reading.
I've only begun reading outside of non-fiction recently, and have been set on finishing "The Ego and It's Own". Is this too heavy to start with?
My mind feels clouded and confused when reading.

Basically, until you make a thought (or piece of knowledge) your own, it is essentially a prosthetic limb.
I've been very guilty of 'reading without thinking'. I recently read Beyond Good & Evil, and would be hard-pressed to tell you anything I remember.
My sincere advice is to read Plato.

I'm not convinced that it's possible to give that many books the proper amount of thought/consideration for the sake of reading. Too many people read without thinking, or rather, read without thinking about what they've read. Read merely for the sake of reading. I think this is an example of just that.
Schopenhauer said we should think at least as much, if not more, than what we read. Likewise Kant, quoting Abbé Terrasson, pointed out:

I still think this is the most astute, succinct and unbiased explanation for the fundamental differences between male and female behavior. Nietzsche's views on women in general were one of the more interesting parts of his social commentary imo even though most scholars follow Kaufmann's mantra that they were just peripheral and the weakest parts of his work.

The child is all female wants of men which was Nietzsche's other observation, but the child is also an adornment. Just look at how society lavishes attention on pregnant women, notice how women constantly post baby pictures and quickly identify as 'mom' to claim the social prestige that comes with motherhood. Women get postpartum depression because the attention and special treatment that she got during her pregnancy go away.
My sister has been pregnant 3 times now and each time she moaned about the sickness and inconvenience of it all, yet she keeps getting pregnant. I want to start reading lit in Spanish (foreign language). Give me some relatively easy prose Spanish lit, but good Spanish lit, that I can read in original in order to hone my Spanish, but also hone my literary patricianism at the same time.

yeah, pic obviously unrelated, I guessed so too. I'd actually rather some newer stuff (as in, the last 100-150 years) but I'm not picky in any way if it's good and relatively easy for a self-taught Spanish learner to read.
