Sup lit. My novel just got a publishing deal from the big five. I do not read though. The last novel I read was in high school and I only used cliff notes. How is my book so good when I hate reading? Am I just that good?

This is the highest rated book on Goodreads beating Brandon Sanderson' books? Why an average reader thinks young adult and fantasy is the epitome of literature?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.

I am still not unconvinced that Goodreads isn't a prop for Amazon sales. Almost any book you go to will have a direct link to purchase it through Amazon. Keep in mind too how many people are paid or have bots leave positive reviews for their products- who's to say many popular reviewers on Goodreads are not also paid reviewers and promoters?
>>
> Why an average reader thinks young adult and fantasy is the epitome of literature?

No one thinks this shit is the epitome of literature but for most people it's going to be more entertaining than a fucking ancient tome about a monomaniacal sperg chucking harpoons at whales and 250 pages of pseudoscientific whale morphology and sailing equipment.
>>

It basically is. It's owned by Amazon and they even provide guidelines to authors for how best to use it for marketing. Goodreads legitimately is really popular. I don't think they have to pay people to use it. The goals of authors, popular readership, and Amazon align pretty closely in this case.

hey guys, I need your help. I want to write a good mystery story, and I have a general plan written out. The thing is that I want the reader to be able to solve the mystery themselves so I want to leave in clues and stuff in the writing. I want to know how to do this without it seeming blatantly obvious?

Ok so im definitely a huge faggot because one of my favorite stories is A Song of Ice and Fire. Everyone gives the writing a ton of shit for being bad apparently, but i still feel like its a good story regardless of the writing, like the show. Why is it so heavily shit upon?

>Everyone gives the writing a ton of shit for being bad apparently

you answered it yourself. how good a story is entirely irrelevant.
>>
But the show is the product of the writing and the show is one of the most popular shows out there

can the best female writers compete againts the best male writers?
44 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Yes. In some ways they are much better. In some ways they are much worse.

Female authors, especially great ones, appear less because statistically, not as many brilliant women are born as brilliant men. That, coupled with societal conflicts, both real imagined and often perpetuated by other women, often deters women from such things as literature. Most women invest themselves in things like childcare, teaching, and the arts not related to literature. Most men invest in stem fields.

There are plenty of decent and even good writers of either gender in every corner of the world. The rare amazing writer will most often come from a first world location and most likely from affluence where they have the time, energy, and proper direction to write. Even more rare, a person whose brilliance is brought about because they are intellectualls living in poverty or abuse.

Most great writers have some kind of character deferential that allows them to become great writers. This last is my opinion, the rest is true.

Click. BANG' The tin can tremored in place, as if to spite your marksmanship, and settled steadfast.
In retrospect, I like to imagine you were thinking about how unwarranted your words were. "Are we still friends?" My utterance was feeble in light of your hostile body language. You glanced at me and stared down the can once more. Maybe I was the tin can, for some reason.

You checked to see if there were more pellets loaded in to the chamber, and were not disappointed. "What the hell are you talking about?" You were somewhere in between feigned ignorance of the argument from earlier and fermenting its animosity. 'Click. BANG.'

"You yelled at me and stormed off after I agreed with Ryan and I just wanted to make sure we were still friends."
How pathetic did I sound? I identified so heavily with someone so hateful. Someone so raw and misunderstanding.

"The other day you asked me if I considered you my best friend, and I said yes." Looking back, maybe you just fed off my naïveté and latent mental illness. "I have to hold myself to that."

I can see you start to cry and I hoped you were fulfilled with a compassion far too mature and adult for either of us. 'Click. BANG' The can gyrates and falls with a dull thud, muffled by the autumn leaves. The neighbors complained about us shooting the other day, and my eyes wandered anxiously for their appearance. You seemed focused on your conflicting thoughts.

"Sometimes I have trouble dealing with my anger. Or other people. I misinterpret others and I lash out. You need to understand." I didn't understand.

"Okay."

Several pauses of silence with near interruptions passed but hesitance muted them. "Let's go inside."

'Click. BANG.' You checked the chambed and it was empty.

"Okay."

Opinion or thoughts on Esperanto?
16 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
I've dabbled in it. As a subject, it fascinates me, but I don't think it's particularly well-suited for literature. It's a good shorthand for communication between people of different languages, but it would be a bad idea to raise people to speak Esperanto as a primary language, even more so if they're raised to only speak Esperanto.

The one book plebs tout when they feel like blaming the world for their shortcomings.
Regardless of that, however, what's /lit's opinion on Atlas Shrugged? Is it Gold or Turd? Cast your vote and elaborate. Or not.

The best thing to come from Atlas Shrugged are those attempts by assorted libertarian nerds to try and create their own Galt's Gulches. It's hilarious watching them fail.

Right now some Czech ancap is trying to make his own. He's attempting to seize some shitty marshland on the Danube that's disputed between Serbia and Croatia. And every time he and his followers try to set up there the police arrest their asses. It's brilliant.

>>8238234
Objectifag here, better philosophizing, worse narrative than Fountainhead. She basically gave up and went full nonfiction mode thereafter

We the Living and Fountainhead are the best reads, Atlas is the most important
