Write and Rate:

Somewhere, far off, the Sow cried. We could hear it from the path's diverge.

It's there that our gate whispered a little clatter as our hands burnt, almost blackened by the rust-hot heat the iron held. I clipped my leg on the top-bar. There was a fumble; he scooped me up, and I scaled out into an sea of meadows.

The whins, shipped and narrowed our path. We flopped feet on the hollyhocks, feeling the tinkle of their grass-crew grab and lurch at our bare, shorted legs. His face was red, he walked puffing into the dense air; my chest tightened more and more as we took on a few last tacks down the land.

We were left more sweltering than we ever were on the walk behind us, and we felt our tops tighten and cling as we turned, like to Eurydice, at the path we'd dug out. It had wisped us into a little heath by a stream.

The sallies, under the writhing trees and in the shade; they flicked with us on the stream. The little beads on his forebrow left his head through his hand while wiped them off. He leant in to kiss me.

The eyes were closed, sullen. It was very clear he saw his next kiss, returning.

-

We walked back, said little after he'd come. The field was more open now, I ran in front while he walked, my skinny, boy-body whipping out as if I were just a child, as if he were the big man, the Bigfellow.

The gate proved less troubling and once we hit the road, my friend gave me a hug and parsed one last chance at my promised kiss. I reeled, he turned, I sighed as the free wind kept the fields moving, kept my face cool.

Serious question: can diverge be used as a noun? I've never heard it used that way.

This guy walks up to you at the book store and sees you reading your effeminate meme literature and berates you for not having Honour, Strength, Mastery of Courage. He thrusts a copy of The Way Of Men into your hands.

The Quiet World - Jeffrey McDaniel

In an effort to get people to look
into each other’s eyes more,
and also to appease the mutes,
the government has decided
to allot each person exactly one hundred
and sixty-seven words, per day.

When the phone rings, I put it to my ear
without saying hello. In the restaurant
I point at chicken noodle soup.
I am adjusting well to the new way.

Late at night, I call my long distance lover,
proudly say I only used fifty-nine today.
I saved the rest for you.

When she doesn’t respond,
I know she’s used up all her words,
so I slowly whisper I love you
thirty-two and a third times.
After that, we just sit on the line
and listen to each other breathe.

Bluebird - Charles Bukowski

there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too tough for him,
I say, stay in there, I'm not going
to let anybody see
you.
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I pour whiskey on him and inhale
cigarette smoke
and the whores and the bartenders
and the grocery clerks
never know that
he's
in there.

there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too tough for him,
I say,
stay down, do you want to mess
me up?
you want to screw up the
works?
you want to blow my book sales in
Europe?
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too clever, I only let him out
at night sometimes
when everybody's asleep.
I say, I know that you're there,
so don't be
sad.
then I put him back,
but he's singing a little
in there, I haven't quite let him
die
and we sleep together like
that
with our
secret pact
and it's nice enough to
make a man
weep, but I don't
weep, do
you?
>>
Sonnet XVII - Pablo Neruda

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

Can we talk about nihilism?

I'm by no means an expert on the subject, but based on what I've read/heard/gathered I would consider myself an active nihilist [if that's a real thing] somebody who believes everything is meaningless but doesn't wallow in the idea, just pursues assigning personal meaning to things in their life.

Is nihilism damaging/unhealthy? What exactly is nihilism? Is there any good nihilistic literature or should I be seeking out literature that's opposed to nihilism?

I hope this thread doesn't break any rules and isn't obnoxious, I'm just uneducated on the matter and curious.

E-books are the biggest scam in the entire /lit/ related Industry.

The DRM policies in place are among the most retarded shit I've ever seen.

What's the point of the e-format if I can't even buy e-books from another country?
There are publishers right now who have abandoned entire franchises, and others who don't even sell e-books, that own the rights of a certain author.
So they basically, don't only not have the product available, but they also don't let the costumer get it in another market. This is unprecedented, even Video games and Music don't do this shit.
To bad some authors have to suffer from this lack of respect.

I encourage you all to pirate every e-books (implying that's not the only option in this case)

In the last few days ive seen several seemingly legitimate posts regarding problems with kobo marketplace and amazon, and complaining about regional publishing. Where the fuck are you people coming from. I've never seen any threads about purchasing ebooks in the last few years.

If you liked those, just pick whatever else you want to read by him, I've yet to be disappointed. I'm reading The Everlasting Man right now actually.

What are some great revenge books? I'm looking for hard-boiled fiction, but anything is cool like pic related.

For two short stories, I always like La Grand Breteche and La Duchesse de Langais by Balzac.

Hi /lit/.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this because I haven't really done enough lurking so feel free to let me know if I should move this thread somewhere else.

I am a 19 year old musician who has written a bunch of music and wants to write lyrics to go along it, I have a whole bunch of topics/ideas that I want to put down in words but every time I try I can't help but feel a little dumb.

I'm not trying to put down or devalue poetry by saying this, I just feel like anything that I try to write doesn't feel genuine at all, as if I'm a kid in middle school who thinks he's hot shit for having written his first sonnet. Like nothing that I write would ever be taken as seriously as the work of other, successful lyricists.

I'm not really sure what I'm asking, I guess how to take my own work a little more seriously and get over this anxiety that I have about stuff that I write.

We have a saying here on /lit/:
“Write moar, faggot.”
And if you think you've written enough, you haven't.

Can someone help me find that quote in 2666 that's something like:

"'Ah, yes. The literature of the persians,' he said, having never read persian literature."

I think it's in like the lower left corner
