Yeah I read it in high school and it was pretty relatable. Its pretty good and it will make you feel like a teenager again assuming you arent one now.
It's good at articulating the sort of fears sensitive teenagers experience. Their prejudices, insecurities, romantic desires, need for validation and tendency to view themselves as persecuted individuals. Like pretty much all books written for teenagers almost every character has something extremely depressing about their lives which justifies their being viewed as victims deserving of love (rape, spousal abuse, homophobia etc) which sort of undermines it a little, but still it's a cute book and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it when I first read it....

Despite all this info about email services, uniforms, the color of his coworkers' hair, etc. etc there's no mention of what he actually does, where he actually works (intetional?). Have you ever wished of going to a video game like world do you wish to have a legendary weapon, well the main character of this novel is flung into such a situation along with 3 other heroes. The only down side is his legendary weapon is a shield and he cannot use anything else. Also there seems to be 'some' discrimination towards the hero who uses the shield.
The story delves into the emotional effect of discrimination, fear, insanity, betrayal, and rejection of reality.

Is anyone here disappointed when they read a novel described as "funny", but it turns out to use really lame humor?
White Noise, Infinite Jest, The Corrections and Gravity's Rainbow were all terribly unfunny to me. Sitcom writing is funnier.
Catch 22's dry absurdity and Dunce's ridiculous protagonist were funny, though. These are the only two novels I've ever found funny. I've always been meaning to try Wodehouse.
I think describing a book as funny is pretty pointless, since everyone has a different sense of humor.
Infinite Jest wasn't supposed to be funny.

How do I get into writing exploitative novels for Amazon (kindle only)?
I'd imagine the easiest genre would be romance, but I've started writing a shitty hunger games core YA novel. I was hoping to be done in a week or two but word count is such a bitch; most bestselling novels on Amazon are at least 100k words.
Has anyone made a decent amount of money off of this method? I'm considering calling it a "novella" and releasing several parts, but I have no clue if anyone would buy.
