What is a good quality audiobook?
I immensely enjoyed George Guidall's audiobooks of Kafka's major works, though I wouldn't reccomend audiobooking Kafka for a first time reader of him.
George Guidall has a great voice though.

How do you make yourself read a difficult book?
I keep meaning to read economics papers or arduous philosophy tomes but I rarely manage to get through them. Usually I lose focus rapidly and I go back to reading shitty fantasy.
Is there any way besides willpower, or a way to increase willpower and concentration?
Here's a tip: stop being an idiot.
>>7806574
Well sorry for trying to better myself. Any real advice? Please?
>>7806594
take breaks and don't stop
you have to force yourself through them
>Beatrice pls respond
Which one is Beatrice? The one in red? I never noticed before that she seems to be looking right at him.
>Who's this creeper staring at me
>>7806444
no the one in yellow is Beatrice
why did beatrice reject him?
in any case dante is now a literary household name and beatrice is a literally who that amounted to nothing and probably became a generic housewife

I'm starting with the Greeks and have finally decided to buy the following:
Homer
The Iliad translated by Robert Fitzegerald
The Odessey translated by Robert Fitzegerald
Aeschylus
The Oresteia translated by George Thomas
Herodotus
The Histories translated by George Rawlinson
Plato
The Republic by translated AD Lindsay
Plato
Symposium and Phaedrus translated by Tom Griffith
Sophocles
The Theban Plays translated by David Grene
Am I on the right track?
Get Strassler's edition of Herodotus.
Don't start with The Republic.
Get his complete works, or get these ones at least:
Euthyphro, Apology, Crito, Phaedo, Meno, Symposium, Republic, Timaeus

What's wrong with George Rawlinson?
dearest /lit/, I've been lurking here and reading for a few months now, and perhaps my biggest frustration so far is that I feel I don't have the tools to form advanced criticisms or analysis of what I read. I feel like the significance of some works are maybe being lost on me.
Now, I know many of you study literature for a living, so I was wanting to ask you all -- how do I learn more about the theory surrounding literature? I want to get to the point where I can read and understand academic criticism/analysis of literature as well as form my own. Are there...

OP
Check out YouTube for open Yale courses. There's a good intro lit 101 primer course worth watching.
Also research book options for some good lit criticism. I have none to offer but Mortimer Alders how to read a book which was my first exposure to the field. It's slightly outdated but still a good starting point.
For poetry I really enjoyed Haas 20th century pleasures. Good luck.

Thanks, friend. I'll check out that book. It's pretty overwhelming trying to get into an entire field of academics when you don't have any lecturers or whatever to guide you.

There's something about that image of Wittgenstein that I love.

Wittgenstein is a hack fraud guilty of perpretating the very fraudulent obscurantism he accused other philosophers of doing.
What are some books about characters that feel worthless and have few redeeming qualities?

Is Columbine by Dave Cullen the definitive text on the Columbine High School massacre? Has anyone else read this? I understand that it has become a somewhat popular textbook in high schools and colleges in America. It seems so exhaustive in scope. Admittedly I have not read any other books on the topic and I bought this out of morbid curiosity (what else?)
The text is illuminating, if not at times sordid. For years, I thought Dylan was the leader and the sociopath, and that Eric was merely accessory in the murders when in fact Eric was the mastermind behind the shooting....

Short Story about a Massacre
by Eric Harris
As I walked through the broken door entrance to the final military
installation, I realized that this hellish experience was almost over.
The invasion was stopped, all of the aliens were dead, and whatever
wasn't dead was waiting for me ahead. While I was leaning against a
granite wall in a large calmly lit room, I scanned over the dozens of
marine bodies that scattered the floor in front of me. A last, futile,
stand that wasn't enough to ward off the alien attacks. Bullet shells
sprinkled the...

You should post this in a critique thread in a trollish manner and claim you wrote it. Obviously, you can see his obsession with id's Doom as well as his human extinction fantasy .
Anyway, Eric broadcasted a lot of this stuff. He wrote essays, short stories, maintained a journal and a website as well as communicated a lot of this shit on the internet. It would be ridiculous to think that someone could even get away with this much ideation and planning today, let alone any of it. He threatened people's...
