Hello /lit/ first time here. Picked the Foundation Trilogy at my library, just finished Foundation, I found it a good read. If you've read it, what do you guys think of it?
Nobody here actually reads, friend.
>>7651071
I read all of the Foundation books and they were quite enjoyable.
Many of his other books and short stories are good as well.
the entire idea of historical mathematics influenced my own worldview right up to the present day. It's a fascinating way of thinking about the world, even if it's not true. A good "if it were this way then..." kind of scenario to bounce other ideas off.
What does /lit/ think about Penguin deluxe editions?
>>7650589
>reading Penguin ever
>>7650589
>We want the reddit audience
Is that cover drawn by fucking Mike Mignola?
>ITT: We take pleb-tier pop lit and pick it apart for substance
>>7650475
There is literally nothing of substance in RP1. I couldn't get past the first chapter it was so awful.
Ready Player One was loads of fun, don't care what anybody thinks about it.
>>7650475
What the hell is it about? Ive heard of this before and it was popular last year for some reason. Is it really that bad?
>Warosu archive goes down
>4chan.be goes down
/lit/ is never going to get a stable archive
>all those years of shitposting were for nothing
There are other archives...
>>7650407
archives are against the spirit of 4chan anyway

In what order should I read his works?
I've only read Demian so far.
demian -> siddhartha -> steppenwolf -> narcissus and goldmund -> jouney to the east (optional) -> glass bead game
>>7650071
just read Siddhartha and then Steppenwolf
Any fans of this madman out here? I just finished reading Heartsnatcher and loved the shit out of it. Any of his other works worth checking out? Any authors similar to him?
>>7649515
Only book of him i have read is Autumn in Peking which i though was great.
>>7649515
Haven't read Heartsnatcher but Froth on the Daydream and Red Grass are great
I thought of a couple authors as similar in some respects but can't remember who they were
>>7649515
jason?
What is your opinion of this man?
Like him tbqh
Napoleon of Notting Hill is genuinely my favourite book of all time.
>>7649010
One of the great essayists of the English language. His Father Brown stories are also quite good, and are the ones that started the subgenre of the "priest detective". Haven't read his novels but want to. Which one should I start with?
any way to write for a lit magazine / website?
>>7648876
Write something and submit it to a ton of magazines.

>>7648876

What's the exact point where everything went so wrong ?
when you thought this was literature.
>>7648303
The chapter where Eragon heals the blacksmith's baby in Inheritance.
Also Eragon falling for that self-fulfilling prophecy.
Overall I enjoyed the saga though.
When it was but a thought in a child's mind.
ITT: Write a short story about DFW, any length, any format
His prescription he did not fill
And stretched the lengths of Nardil
his magnum opus stinks like a baby's deuce
the only thing he ever did right was use his noose
The platitude was earth-shatteringly, knock-you-on-your-ass banal, and there's something terribly sad and banal about that.

So I finally fell for the no internet meme.
Le old people had better lifes due to no multitasking or internet. Thats very stupid since after a point you can't produce anything, without a break (browsing the internet) I just
layed down or watched the streets. I didn't become more productive or creative or happy. Why this is supposed to be a higher form of passing time? I'm sure that people in the 17th had incredible unproductive activities (like
browsing 4chan) too.
Also do you prefer writing just when you feel like it or push yourself to be consistent?...
Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

I choose not to have internet at home. the result is that I go the university at night to download books and videos... then I go home and spend my day entertaining me.
>>7650958
it's the method of talkign to people you stupid faggot.
you're supposed to greet everyone you meet so you can get an accumulation of news stories similar to your facebook feed,
>>if i just turn off all socialization things will be better
fucking christopher paolini tier logic. read a fucking book
it's not the internet, it's web 2.0 that is the distraction. give up all video-based media, film, kino and cinema included (not just flicks, movies and motion pictures) as well as obviously social media and you will get the same results as if you quit the internet
