did I just buy a book condoning religion? I hate religion. I got this for the screwtape letters. has anyone read this Christian shit? should I read it. I think anyone religious is a nut. will it just piss me off?
I'm not a religious person and loved The Screwtape Letters. It is obviously based in Christian rhetoric and dogma, but the themes are easily understood from a non-Christian perspective. It is more about the general flaws of people, how they arise, how and why they operate, etc. than it is about being a Christianity.
What I also appreciated about it is how applicanle Lewis' points are today. As a basic example, he explores the idea that to corrupt a large number of people, it is easier to corrupt one person with widespread influence (e.g. a political leader or...

This is kind of silly but I really like exploring mystic/occult stuff after reading Gravity's rainbow. All the references to kabbalah and tarot got me interested.
I mostly just dive into wikipedia and read the history of this stuff (which is way more complex and detailed than I expected) but I also bought the satanic bible (LaVey's version) and I flip through it once and a while. It's actually pretty agreeable
I'm reading Revolt Against The Modern World by Evola if that counts.
How exactly does Evola account for the failure of Tradition if it's so pure and crystilline? Why does degeneration happen? Is it because of individualism inherent to humanity that is strengthened when given false, worldly knowledge? When the mediation between the metaphysical and material world (in the form of the priest-king) abandons his post?

Have a look at some of pic related. I'm serious. When I suffered from depression a year ago I found reading these despairing books strangely cathartic. E.M. Cioran was a personal favourite at the time.

Feeling Good, by Dr. David Burns. It's sort of a classic of cognitive behavior therapy in book form. Not a substitute for therapy or medication, but it is very helpful in identifying and dealing with distorted and harmful thought patterns.
I've been looking for something equivalent in the area of dialectical behavioral therapy, in particular mindfulness, but haven't quite found the right thing yet. Maybe someone else has some insights.
