Is there a more metal chapter in the history of literature?
>And as if the now tested reality of his might had in former legendary times thrown its shadow before it; we find some book naturalists- Olassen and Povelson- declaring the Sperm Whale not only to be a consternation to every other creature in the sea, but also to be so incredibly ferocious as continually to be athirst for human blood. Nor even down to so late a time as Cuvier’s, were these or almost similar impressions effaced. For in his Natural History, the Baron himself affirms that...

Sure is summer.
>Nor, credulous as such minds must have been, was this conceit altogether without some faint show of superstitious probability. For as the secrets of the currents in the seas have never yet been divulged, even to the most erudite research; so the hidden ways of the Sperm Whale when beneath the surface remain, in great part, unaccountable to his pursuers; and from time to time have originated the most curious and contradictory speculations regarding them, especially concerning the mystic modes whereby, after sounding to a great depth, he transports himself with such vast swiftness to the most widely distant points.
>It is a thing well known to both American and English whale-ships, and as well a thing placed upon authoritative record years ago by Scoresby, that some whales have been captured far north in the Pacific, in whose bodies have been found the barbs of harpoons darted in the Greenland seas. Nor is it to be gainsaid, that in some of these instances it has been declared that the interval of time between the two assaults could not have exceeded very many days. Hence, by inference, it has been believed by some whalemen, that the Nor’ West Passage, so long a problem to man, was never a problem to the whale.
Well this was pretty gay

What are some spooky books set in Puritan times, that deal with Witchcraft or religious horror?
>>8059382
You might like this book; it's received excellent reviews
>Chilling real-life accounts of witches, from medieval Europe through colonial America, compiled by the New York Times bestselling author of The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane and Conversion
>From a manual for witch hunters written by King James himself in 1597, to court documents from the Salem witch trials of 1692, to newspaper coverage of a woman stoned to death on the streets of Philadelphia...

I always thought Lovecraft was just a meme, but I just read At The Mountains of Madness and it was incredible. What do I read next?

That's a great cover.
If you're itching for me, can't go wrong with the man's inspirations; Arthur Machen and M.R.James are both great. The former has a relatively recent anthology by Penguin, and the latter has an omnibus from Oxford World's Classics.
Neither of the above authors have anywhere near the same kind of sci-fi leanings AtMoM does, but they were a huge influence on Lovecraft and GOAT-tier 2sp00ky in their own right. Lovecraft's essay "Supernatural Horror...

Since Kindergarten I've been a shit artist. I've never been able to draw, I tried learning, but with no significant improvements I got frustrated and quit.
The only artistic talent I posses is in writing. I love coming up with ideas for stories with fun characters and cool worlds, but I always get discouraged when I realize that the characters in my head will always be confined to text due to my own inability to bring them to life in the way I want them to be.
How do you guys get over this feeling? I know I could meet an illustrator but then it feels...

Git gud. Read and write, learn to compose appealing sentences. Self-pity will kill you as an artist.

How do you guys deal with this suffocating feeling that you're never going to absorb all the knowledge you would like to before your death? It scaries me so much that in my lifetime I'm never going to be able to enjoy all the great pieces of art and essays men produced that for some long periods of time I, dispirited, just quit reading.
I don't have to deal with it because I use the Tai Lopez method to read a book a day.
Stay pleb m98

I know this is bait, but even if someone did it, this person pretty much wouldn't be enjoying all that a great masterpiece can give, as I said.
It may even work with the self-help shit this fraud you mentioned may be reading, but I doubt anyone in the world could take any pleasure or results by just fucking swallowing Divine Comedy on a day.
I'm afraid to say it, but once you die, you can't use your knowledge .
Am I doing it right? Can I write for the Guardian yet?
I saw this posted once and got the joke immediately without actually doing more than skimming it, so I showed it to my /lit/ bud who gently mocks me for being such a Lovecraft fan, as kind of a self-deprecating thing, and he googled it to find that they replaced ALL the adjectives and not just the "eldritch"-esque ones, which I didn't notice because I only skimmed, but he doesn't believe me about that so now he thinks I'm a total retard.
It could have been funny. It could have been funny and my friend would have laughed with me. Instead, the...

I would like to read some viking fantasy fiction. Something like... vikings pillaging shit, fighting draugr, maybe a novel about Ragnarök, fiction about the Norse gods, stuff like that, as long as it is epic and interesting.
I know about the Poetic and Prose Eddas obviously but I'm thinking more about authors that are still/recently active.

so, i was looking through some books and my local bookstore and saw the Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Having never read any of the books and never watched Game of Thrones, which book should i get?
I would get the first one, a Game of Thrones, but i couldn't seem to find it. i am 100% sure they had books 3, 4 and 5.
Which book is your favorite? Which one should i get? Will i be lost if i don't read book 1 first?
You should only read them in order. Yes you'll be lost if you don't.
