What does contemporary avant-garde literature look like? People talk about post-modernism or 'post-post-modernism' (if they're trying to be '2deep4u') like it's some underground intellectual movement.. But as far as I can tell, anyone under the age of 25 has literally been completely saturated in a post-modern society since birth.
Music and art thrive creatively when put to the task of exploring the avant garde. Why should literature be any different? What are some examples of contemporary lit that completely goes against the grain?

I think you're spot on OP. born in 1990 here. I was the last of my friends to get a cell phone. That was freshman year. I still only have vague memories of life when all you knew was what your parents knew and you could win arguments by making shit up.
Monoglot here; what's the best second language for literature, and how would I go about learning it to a decent level?
French. Take classes, learn grammar, use Anki and read.
Latin

Well even in /TV land its bull. The best villian are villians who have an inexplicable and incomprehensible desire for evil. They corrupt those around them, and although they are easily identifiable as evil psychopaths, hold such demonic control over the masses that questioning the motives is pointless
>Hitler was reluctant and only did things because of the situation he found himself in
Really? He just 'found himself' chancellor of Germany? Just 'found himself' invading Poland and Anschlussing Austria?
Tell me about the book you're writing, Anon

It's a series of different stories taking place in the same town that all revolve around the absurd and ridiculous legislation of the government, which, as it turns out, doesn't exist. All the laws come from nowhere other than the minds of the paranoid and accusatory citizens, who diffuse them in such a way that they change constantly, becoming more ridiculous or radical depending on the citizen. To give it some spice, I plan on making them spawn as some way to cope with the strange and supernatural events...

Who here uses ritalin or similar uppers while writing? Is it worth theaddiction
>>7410054
I've taken Ritalin at least a dozen times over the last year and never felt an addiction
>>7410055
Watch out we have a baddass over here. A dozen times doesn't exactly a novel make, does it?
>>7410054
I literally take it everyday. Have been since I was six.
ADHD sucks ass.
Some fun side effects:
>increased libido
>inability to sleep for 12 hours after taking it
>Mild sexual dysfunction (SUPER FUN with the first one) (kill me)
>Wakefulness (I never need caffeine. Coffee makes me uncomfortably stimulated)
I've read that some of these only effect a small percentage...

Is there a book where the protagonist starts out as an unlikeable cynical/douchebag but turns into a more likeable person as the novel progresses?

How can one island so utterly DOMINATE the world of literature?
>>7409324
because starting with Chaucer, English has been a language of translation and assimilation and all the best parts of European languages and their traditions were slowly mashed together to make English tradition.

Lets say: a newly formed religious system with centers for devotion and lead by someone with unwarranted self-importance.
Scientology to be honest family.

There once was a fellow from Gosham,
Who took out his bollocks to wash 'em.
His wife said 'Jack,
If you don't put 'em back,
I'll step on the fuckers and squash 'em.'
There once was a hermit named Dave
Who kept a dead whore in his cave.
"I know it's a sin,"
He said with a grin,
"But think of the money I save!"
There once was a whore named Ms. Randall
Who men, by the dozens, she handles.
"When I get this busy,
My cunt gets all jizzy,
And runs down my legs like wax candles."
