Post your collections
What would you guys reccomend I add next?
Here's my N64 collection. Not pictured are 10 or so loose carts and a couple of Gamesharks.
>tfw too poor to buy games CIB
I mean, I'm definitely in it for playing the games more than collecting them, but games look so much nicer in the box... Anyway, my collection is kind of pathetic so I won't bother posting it. Really hope this thread takes off though - the N64 gets the nogaems treatment but I think its library had a lot of gems.
Is the whole chinese everdrives are bad thing just a meme ?
I don't have one but no one's ever shown any material evidence that they are practically inferior in any way. I have a ever drive md clone and never had a problem with it. The nes one is supposed to be dodgy because of the mappers or something. I think it all started on the krikkz guy's forum and is understandable from people who laid out 100-200 dollars on the real thing
There are a bunch of negative Amazon reviews of the Super UFO 8 that have the "verified purchase" tag. That's obviously not the same as ones bought on AliExpress though.
Sometimes people have shown up here with stories of them failing for no apparent reason, while sometimes people say the ones they have are fine.
I think they all have a fairly low failure rate no matter where you get them. If you are one of the unlucky ones you just might be shit out of luck unless you can do a chargeback. The Everdrive guy does have a good reputation for repairs...

I heard the NES/FC one sucks, but I'd love a second opinion. Would be nice to save 30-40 bucks. Haven't heard much about the other clones.
I was on a tour on Nintendo HQ and saw an unreleased game for the GBA. I wanted to play it so they let me try it out. This is an early build of what it meant to be a GBA remake of Super Mario 64 but ultimately shifted to the DS. I have some gameplay images, an unreleased artwork and the logo found on the Game Pak.
By the way, the SM64 title screen has been dramatically changed due to the GBA's technical limitations so it features Mario and you can use a pointer (Like in Super Mario Maker) and if you press A, he will do a specific action (Like Sneezing).
wow
this is the most autistic thread ive seen on /vr/
I'll start: Stronghold, I loved playing it back in the 90's, a modern multiplayer version would be awesome.
>>2858905
So like Stronghold Crusader?
>>2858905
Stronghold Crusader isn't based on Dungeons & Dragons, I think your confusing Stronghold (1993 video game), a real-time strategy game by Stormfront Studios
with
Stronghold (2001 video game), a real-time strategy game by Firefly Studios

A real 3D remake of chrono trigger
What is /vr/'s favorite game of 1994?
January - Mega Man X was released in the US.
February 2 — Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Sega, Mega Drive/Genesis), introduces Knuckles the Echidna.
February 23 - Super Street Fighter II Turbo (Arcade), introduces Akuma.
March 19 — Super Metroid (SNES), distributed on a 24-megabit cartridge (the largest of its time), called the "best game of all time" by Electronic Gaming Monthly in 2002.
June 9 — Shiny Entertainment releases Earthworm Jim.
July 5 — Capcom releases Darkstalkers.
August 25 — SNK Playmore releases The King of Fighters.
October 17[2]...

what a glorious year
Whenever the topic of license games comes up, it's all about 8- and 16-bit games and I've been wondering if there is actually good stuff in 3D. Now 3D games as whole weren't exactly on top of their game back then and the big Japanese developers that made those beloved 2D games were largly busy doing there own thing, but surely there's got to be something.
pic related is obviously great. A really competent shooter.
I thought it was pretty meh gameplay-wise, but the cutscenes were great and I'm impressed that they got all the VA's from the movie back.
The first GITS game is very enjoyable in a mindless fun kind of way. It's also a great companion to the first movie (more than I can say about the SAC games)

I think the gameplay is anything but meh. I can understand it may not be for everyone, but it's unique, nothing like it.
It actually is one of my favorite PS1 games.
Also great techno soundtrack.

What the ACTUAL fuck does he really say? Is it even from the manga?
>>2856050
He's saying "Aite no stand tsukaika!" ("Is that an enemy stand user?!") IIRC this is said as a vs. partner is coming in during story mode.
I also like that any villains' (or maybe just Dio, I forget) quote is slightly different, I think it's "Nanimono da?" (Something like "What was that?", since a villain would be cautious of the Part 3 crew the wohle time.
I don't know if it's exactly from the manga, but as a long-time Jojofag I'll...

Is there any game even remotely like it?
>>2853527
just tried this game, and it's confusing and hectic as fuck
No need, they got it right the first time.
Metal Marines is based as fuck.
>>2853527
Played it on Windows.
I remember being able to see the missiles flying over from one window to another (on Win95 with larger resolution you can drag the windows anywhere and the missiles will still fly appropriately), you might even guess their missile base locations that way.
And yeah, it gets pretty hectic.

To celebrate bubsy being released on steam, here is a bubsy thread. Post all your progress and strategies.
Don't buy this port. It's just a wrapper running SNES9x, possibly illegally (the SNES9x license is a bit of a clusterfuck).

Dumping the rest of the strategy guide
So, scalping faggots have finally driven me away from collecting, and I'm looking to learn Japanese and start collecting imports instead after learning that almost every Super Famicom game ever sells for about $5-$20
Have any of you learned japspeak just to play imports? How long did it take to be able to play games in japanese?
Do you enjoy collecting now that you aren't paying $70+ for any game that is remotely enjoyable?
By the time I became literate in Japanese my interests mostly changed and I played a lot less video games. I think it took me about two years of study before I could play anything and not have it be an excruciating, headache inducing experience every time or having to look something up once for every sentence. I couldn't answer the last question; most of the games I've imported have been 3DS or PS2 stuff and some PS1 games. I stick with emulators for older generations.
Playing video games is an excellent reason to learn Japanese but you should expect to sink...

>Have any of you learned japspeak just to play imports?
Yes and no. It was really more of a genuine curiosity borne from a broader interest in language.
>How long did it take to be able to play games in japanese?
Let me assume you mean "How long might it take me to able able to play games in Japanese?"
If you want to dedicate all your free time to independent study, you should have sufficient reading skills and vocabulary...

Any games you would recommend playing as practice while learning the language?
It might be more fun to study if I'm translating a game as I play
hey /vg/
I'm planning on building a computer for my son on his 6th birthday (I have plenty of time - he's 7 weeks old). I am also building a list of old games he needs to play. the list so far is as follows:
Quake, Day of the Tenticle, Worms, Lemmings, Sim City 2000, Commander Keen, Monkey Island, Tomb Raider. Haven't even started on console games.
Can you recommend any? Alternatively, what would your kids' first computer contain?
He isn't gonna want to play any of that old ass shit, trust me.
>He isn't gonna want to play any of that old ass shit, trust me.
>games he NEEDS to play
don't do this.
What's your favorite angry video game nerd episode?
>>2835656
The one where he talks about poop.
>>2835656
I like his console episodes the most but I can't say which one I like the most. Probably the 5200 one? Yes, that one is my favorite.
>>2835656
The one where he gets c u c k e d.
