>collecting is so expensive

Are flashcarts literally the perfect point in between?
108 posts and 14 images submitted.
>>
Aside from having to wait for 100% compatibility, and the price/quality angle, yes.
>>
Perfect, no but it does give you most of the advantages
>>
>>2805507
>aside from having 100% compatibility
most of them are pretty close honestly.
Genesis flashcart can't play 3 games(?), unless you get the expensive one.
Beggar Prince, Pier Solar, and Virtua Racing.
NES one has pretty high compatibility, just doesn't work on a few koei strat games that are also on different consoles.
PC engine has every game except SF2
SD2SNES has a good list except a good 8 or so games that they are trying to program.

Also not a flashcart but Pseudo saturn and the one light grey 4 in 1 AR has literally almost 100% compatibility, it can't play 2 games correctly(?), which are Croc and something no one cares about.

Both
I like to think of them as companion titles that go hand in hand like Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles

Dear emulatorfags,
What's your perfect keyboard config?
Do you play WASD or arrow keys?
92 posts and 12 images submitted.
>>
WASD + numpad, i play mostly games with few buttons though
>>
I've been using arrow keys for movement and ASDF for actions for every emulator when I use a keyboard for as far as I can remember. In the case of SNES I'd always map A=A, B=F, X=S, Y=D, L=E, R=R, Start=Enter, Select=Space, occasionally switching keys when appropriate, like making A=F for any RPG that primarily uses A. WSAD only really makes sense to me if you're using a mouse.
>>
WASD + arrow keys + shift for shoulders

Exception: N64 = arrow keys as c-buttons. This really helps for strafing and camera controls (and let's you do the famous "spinning throw" digitally if you hold a direction and rotate through the camera buttons on some games)

This was the best game

Was this a good game? I remember as a kid playing it I didn't understand it and hated the controls and couldn't get passed the first stage

It has its flaws. Money grinding is a real drag during the middle of the game
>>

Yeah was one of my favourite games on the Amiga back then. Very atmospheric, gets hard as fuck later on though.
>>
It has a good story and progression, but the controls are kind of bad. It would have been brilliant if it controlled a bit more like Prince of Persia or Another World.

Anyone /manual/ here?

I liked the novelty of the extra information in it.

I was always considered weird because I'd open a brand new game and skim through the booklet before playing it.

That's not why you were considered weird.

I guess you're right, but that was one of the "weird" things I did

Anyone have a link to download the Brain Lord's manual in Japanese, scanning ?

PDF or images compressed in zip.

in internet I only found the American one:

No. Why?

Just played this game, it was really fun.
>>
Let's have a discussion so the thread stays alive and more people will see OP's question.

What are some other games like Brain Lord?
In style, 7th Saga.
In gameplay, Soul Blazer.
>>
>>2801876

I played it and finished, it was fun.

great game.

but now I want to see the Japanese manual to see the artwork of the characters.

Ferris, Rein, Barness, All of them

This seems like a petty final request if I'm perfectly honest.

How many of you did this back in the day? How many still do it?

Some of my earliest childhood memories involve doing this and tinkering with that damned toaster trying to make something appear on the screen. Every time I got it to work it felt like a victory. If I acquired another NES I'd probably be using an Everdrive so hopefully this wouldn't be a major issue anymore.

>>2800496
Of course.

I hose them with contact cleaner now, and I never looked back.

Probably best to change out that 72-pin connector, too. Usually the easiest way to fix having to shuffle the cart around for 10 minutes.

So I've started playing the Final Fantasy series and I decided to begin with 4. I do have to say, it's pretty fun. The story is neat and I enjoy Cecil's character. Anything you guys wanna talk about regarding this game and the series in general?

>>
>I decided to begin with 4.
This is the worst mistake you could possibly make, short of starting with 10 or 13.

You're going to be judging the others based on 4 now.
>>
>>2799965
Four is the FF that I always recommend to start with
>>
>>2799965
>judging the others based on 4

How is that bad? 4 is pretty middle-of-the-road in terms of quality. I think it's the best one to start with desu senpai

Sup, /vr/. Is original sidewinder gamepad worth buying for general retro pc gaming purposes?

No, just get a Wii U Pro, DS4 or get a USB solution to your favorite console controller.
>>
I was considering either of these two options myself:

Nah, it's a bad controller for retro gaming because of the D-Pad design, the way it's shaped you will often inadvertently press diagonals instead of the main four directions.

I've sold mine on eBay not long ago.

The last 6 games I have beaten are retro games, I have only been playing these games for half a year.

Streets of Rage 2 on the 3DS, managed to 1cc it in hardest (mania seems impossible to me, I guess it is only for multiplayer)
Ecco the Dolphin on the 3DS
Sonic 2 on the 3DS
Zelda oracle of Seasons on the 3DS
Axelay on hacked wii (managed to 1cc it)
Equinox on hacked wii (took me 2 months and a half, because the game is so hard and draining I would only be in the mood to play it once or twice per week)

While playing all those retro games, I realized I have a large backlog of modern games

right now

Wii

Zack and Wiki
Okami
Metroid Prime Trilogy (the 3 prime games)
Zelda collection for Gamecube (Nes ZELDA 1 and 2 which I have already beaten, Ocarina and Majora which I have never played)
Mario 64 in vc
Sin and Punishment in vc
Wave Race in vc

On Wii U
Bayonetta
Wonderful 101
Zelda Windwaker

3DS
Monster Hunter 4
Etryan Odyssey 4

PC
A shitload of almost free Steam sales games and humble bundle games.

Pretty much the only games I actually beat are retro games.
I also work and have a family, so not that much free time, perhaps 6-10 hours per week of videogames.

I could probably not buy a game for one or two years and dedicate mysef to beating my backlog while also playing retro games on the 3ds or emulating them on the wii, but it will be hard for me to not buy new games next year, even if I will not play them, and it is even hard for me now to not go to my country's e-bay or amazon and buy games if I find some good deal.
Today I almost buy Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2, Silent Hill shattered Memories and a Gamecube Prince of Persia, and at this rate I may be able to play them in 2017.

How do you handle your backlog if you play both modern and retro games? and how do you deal with the fact that through emulation you have the full libraries of snes, genesis, nes, ps1 etc at your disposition? how do you choose what to play?

The last game I have beaten was Golden Axe almost 6 months ago.

My backlog of games is nearing 8k games. And I plan on buying 3 more consoles, and I need to finish building my mame machine.
>>
>>2796525
Also need a way to handle my backlog, because it doesn't stop growing.
>>
By accepting that the idea of a backlog is stupid to begin with. Stop making video games a chore you feel the need to finish. As long as you are enjoying yourself it doesn't matter that you're not beating them. Just play what you feel like man.

Let's think back at the game covers of yesteryear and admit to ourselves that they have barely anything to do with the game they contain.

goddamn, this game is great

the tank controls are clunky, the jump isnt always responsive when it should, and HOLY SHIT GIVE ME TIME TO PREPARE TO FIGHT THIS FUCKING BEAR, but its everything I could ever want out of an indiana jones-like game

Kinda wish the camera worked better too

It looks amazing for its time, too

The classic (1 - 4) Tomb Raiders have their own special charm, Anon, and it ain't seeing polytits that could put a fuckin' eye out. I'm glad you've discovered them. After you're through with Last Revelation, you could try giving Chronicles a spin, but due to the rushed nature of the game you won't be any the poorer skipping it.

BTW: Stella's Tomb Raider guides are best Tomb Raider guides.

Have you played indiana jones and the infernal machine?
It's pretty much tomb raider but with indiana jones.
>>

>the jump isnt always responsive when it should

Fuck off the jump is total garbage. If any game came out with controls as bad as PS1 Tomb Raider today it'd get universally panned as a 1/5 game like THPS5 (which controls better than Tomb Raider)
