I am a little brother. My brother and I(roughly 10 or 11 years ago) get copies of blue and red version from a pawn shop.
We both start our games at the same time.
Skip ahead to choosing starter, we choose our starters without telling the other which one for balancing purposes.
He picks Charmander, and I chose Squirtle.
Skip ahead to Pewter city, we whip out our link cable. We fight, I lose to his Charmander, I get mad.
He tells me that I suck at video games. I power train my pokemon 'til I get to Celedon city.
Next day we fight, I wreck his team.
I never felt more like an asshole for using power trained level 30's on my brothers level 15's
We didn't talk for a week because of my little plan.

older brother to a little sister here

she always, always hated fighting. i think i turned her off of games by being too competitive when we were kids. she'd be proud of a high score then i'd beat it easily and tease her instead of encouraging her. i honestly regret that a lot, since she had great potential to be really good at games. (she was always clever and clutch; there was a time when she was better at tetris than i was despite me playing more often, for example.)

my advice to older siblings: always encourage your younger sibling and don't be a jerk. in every single way, in the short term and in the long run, it will be better for both of you.

>big brother taught me how to play Mario

>brother taught me how to play Sonic

>brother taught me how to play Mortal Kombat. we even started a Mortal Kombat klub with our friends and made our own costumes

>first time playing our brand new N64 was together

>first time beating Final Fantasy VII was when my brother and I played the game together.

>he was also there the first time I finished IX

>first time we played our PS2 was together

We both loved games as kids, especially Final Fantasy. Shared a lot of good moments playing games with him.

I just beat Equinox for super nintendo.
It took me like 2 months.
It is an isometric action adventure game with 8 dungeons.
It is ridiculously hard. The puzzles use confusing perspective, pushing blocks, exploding blocks, levitating blocks that only levitate after you have been on them after like 20 seconds, blocks that begin to fall as soon as you jump on them, floor that pushes you in different direction, blocks that move piled over blocks that dont move, blocks that move piled over blocks that move piled over blocks that move, invisible doors, spikes, pushing blocks on spikes or enemies, spikes that push blocks in different directions, etc, that kind of thing.
The puzzles are not only hard to figure out, they are also very hard to execute, because the controls and movement of the characters are very limited, and the boss fights are hard mainly because you have to hit the bosses a shitload of times, not their patterns.

I played the game because it was made by the same people who made Plok! which is my favorite 16 bit platformer after Rocket Knight adventures, it looked like it had nice graphics on google images, has Tim Follin music, and I read some good reviews in gamefaqs and saw it the top 100 snes list (93) of retro sanctuary.

I legitimately had fun with it the first 4 dungeons. But at the end of the fourth dungeon I was already overwhelmed, as in, this is only half of the game, how much harder can this get?
The rest of the game was like a nightmare which now I am glad is over, I let more than a week pass between dungeons 4-5-6 and beat 7 and 8 the last 3 days because I wanted this to end.

The game is not bad, but I cant recommend it. It is the kind of game that if you beat it you never play it again.

You should feel good about yourself, I could never beat this.

Equinox left me with the need to play only linear action games for 2 months.

What 2600 games do you really enjoy or find comfy? I played a lot of Pac-Man Jr as a kid and still find it amazingly fun.

Berzerk.

I was more of a Coleco kid.

Berzerk was a hell of a lot of fun! I also had a Colecovision but the weird mushroom like joysticks rubbed me the wrong way.

Literally one of the two games I own for the 2600, and it is golden.

Does any retro series do enemy design better than Castlevania?
16 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
Which one? SotN? The first?

The first was more about placement relative to the platforming. It flowed together well because you could generally move forward and strike pretty consistently without loads of weird pauses and hesitations. The second actually fell apart in that regard. The enemies didn't seem especially well designed outside of that.

How about Rondo of Blood? I've been playing through the series and it has my favorite enemy designs so far. I constantly find myself stopping to admire them.
>>
>>2812806
I've only played the first two but I've been meaning to get around to the others. I kind of feel like I have an obligation to beat the second first before moving on to the third but it's just not my type of game.

As seen in this screenshot, Professor Oak's back of the head has scan lines. This is proof that Gamefreak intended Pokémon to be played with Scanlines instead of bilinear filtering.

Post your Pokémon scanline screenshots!

Accidentaly broke one of the pins of my SNES. How bad is this? Do i need to replace the entire pin connector? How i know if i have a plug and play pin connector?

>How i know if i have a plug and play pin connector?
You take your SNES apart and if the pin connector unplugs from the mainboard you have a "plug-and-play" pin connector.
>>
Why not just play it on emulator?

If you're planning on selling it to retro collector types and are worried about sales price, just don't mention the missing pin.

Someone came up with a similar concept to the SEGA nomad for the SNES. It was essentially a portable console with a display called the supaboy. It probably had waaay better battery life.

I decided to play through some of the Settlers series. Is the first game worth it? I saw some videos and it doesn't look like it aged well. I'm currently playing the gog version of Settlers II HD and it's pretty fun, but I'm having to rely on the manual a little.

1 is trash, 2 is good, 3 is alright, as is 4.

Ultimately it's an average slow-paced series

Settlers 3 and 4 are the coziest games I've ever played in my life. Nothing like watching those little fatties build their villages while you drink some cocoa and it's snowing outside.

>Nintendo Power did this as an ad campaign for Earthbound
>Kids in the 90s saw and probably mistook it as "this game is shit" and avoided it
>This was probably the reason it sold like shit in America

Now that I think about it I can probably care less that they're dead now. Fuck Nintendo Power.
