No.

God no.

It's one of the least capativating RPGs in existence. Pure babby-tier

Chrono Cross on the other hand stamped on my heartstrings more times than I can count

When did /vr/ become so pointlessly contrarian? Come on now, it's well established CT had a great story and CC's story was pretty much the weakest part of the game.

GLideN64 is making some dramatic leaps. Copying auxiliary framebuffers to RDRAM helps fix everything from Pokemon Snap detection to Top Gear Hyper Bike's terrain. Even Vigilante 8's menus are working better now, though they're far from perfect. The horizontal wipes in Mario Tennis have never worked in any plugin besides Angrylion's until now.

Pokemon Snap works? That's big. I was pretty irate when I found out that you could play through 80% of the game but it's actually unbeatable on an emulator.

>Pokemon Snap works?
It detects Pokemon thanks to new auxiliary buffer emulation. The part where the pictures are evaluated doesn't work currently on GLideN64 due to broken depth buffer, but it ironically does work on Glide64 and Jabo and so on.

I will point out, however, that it's not all peaches and sunshine. Copying auxiliary buffers to RDRAM is a somewhat significant performance overhead.

It's good if you have a friend to play co-op with. Otherwise, 1 is better if you're playing by yourself imo.

How do I get into Baldur's Gate/other D&D infinity engine games? Best to dive in with little knowledge or should I read some builds first?

>dive in with little knowledge

Why not.
It was my first RPG, i was 14 or 15 years old and i finished in two weeks without any problems. It's not like this is Wizardry IV.
You just need to read the descriptions, save & load and shoot arrows to everything.
>>
Read up some basics on how AD&D works with AC and saves and levels and spell slots and such before you start.
>>
>>2769806
This.
Don't look up specific builds but read the D&D of uses. If you don't know how a low armor class is better and things like it can be rough.

Man, Trojan is a lot of fun. Are there any more games like it? I know Tiger Road and Ninja Warriors are kinda like it.

Splatterhouse and Altered Beast are also single lane beat'em ups but they feel kinda spammy and not as technical, in my opinion.

I dunno, 3DS Shinobi maybe? I'll be honest, I haven't played any of the games in this thread except for a short spat of Altered Beast (which wasn't my cup of tea).

I ought to play Splatterhouse given the day though. Thanks for the reminder OP. Here's to you getting some good recs.
>>
Kaze Kiri
>boss fights feel like duels
>incredible presentation
>extremely fluid controls
>projectiles and close combat

Ninja Warriors (SNES)
>3 characters
>great music
>good enemy variety
>Ninja carries people

Don't forget Spartan X, X2, and Vigilante

>Splatterhouse and Altered Beast are also single lane beat'em ups but they feel kinda spammy and not as technical, in my opinion.
>but they feel kinda spammy and not as technical, in my opinion.

Neither of the games you mentioned are "spammy" actually. Both are very methodical games that require previous knowledge in enemy placement and boss patterns if you want to play efficiently (i.e. 1cc).

Genny version of Altered Beast is so easy that you can just improvise your way through it, but the arcade version is another story.

What is the last game you finished?

You haven't really finished that game because you emulated. Your victory was a hollow one, you've only beaten a cheap imitation of the game and wasted your time.

If we're talking retro, then the last one I finished was Dragon Quest VII. Very long, but also very enjoyable. Great adventures were had.
>>
>>2768987
What game is that, OP?

Last one for me was Duck Tales, and before that, 100% clear of Kirby's Dream Land 2.

I gave up on Donkey Kong Country, I just don't like the game very much and decided it wasn't worth my time to clear. Now I'm either going to work on clearing Perfect Dark or Super Mario Kart. Not sure which one will be more cruel.

I kind of like how Perfect Dark requires you to more around and really 'learn' the right way to beat it, but it kind of feels annoying in a sense too, you know? Maybe because it's more difficult to aim than I'm used to with KBM shooters, and because you don't have tons 'o' health like in Doom and its kin.

I'm on the Chicago level where you infiltrate that DataDyne front, and I keep getting potshotted by guards even when I shoot out the lights and use cover. Guess I'm still a chump.

So the original Bard's tale games is 3 bucks on steam sale. Is it worth it? Talking about the retro 80s ones of course. Can we talk about this game?

It's fun, but hard

There's a remake of the first games in the works that might up the notch over the IIGS and Amiga ports.
$3 isn't a whole lot but you could always just emulate it first. Do you have experience with other party based dungeon crawlers like Wizardry or Might and Magic?
>>
I played a little ways into the first one earlier this year when Amazon was giving away the Android version (it's just Apple IIgs disk images and the kegs emulator for Android).

The oldest RPG I'd played prior was Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves for Atari 800 when I was a kid in the 80s, which is still "modern" in the way it handles recording changes in the world, and overall a pretty user-friendly game.
I'd been aware of Wizardry and knew a kid that had it, but never actually played anything like that myself.

The big thing that surprised me in The Bard's Tale was the way it doesn't save any kind of world-flags/progress of any kind. The only thing you save is your characters.
Upon learning that, at first I figured progress would be kept track of via acquiring items that you save in character inventory, and there does seem to be some of that, but that's not really the main thing you do: Recording progress through The Bard's Tale seems to mostly take place outside of the game itself, in the form of filling out your own map and recording the hints, riddles, passwords, that sort of stuff that you encounter while exploring.

I'd originally planned on downloading maps other people had made and playing it on a sort of easy-mode, but I quickly came to the conclusion pretty quickly that you can't really play Bard's Tale like that. Navigating and learning the dungeons is the core of the game, so you're not really playing it if you use someone else's maps.

SMRPG was the first RPG I played, and for a long time I thought that a well timed button press would help me in every RPG. What were some having misconceptions you had when you were younger?

I think as a kid I probably kept pressing Y to run in Yoshi's Island even though you don't really need to, too used to play Mario.

Which game had the most technically impressive graphics on PS1?

My choice is pic related but it's really hard to single out a game on this system

No, it's only an imitation of the electrical circuits in the real game. The timings are all off, the games won't count as beaten and you won't have achieved anything if you use one. You should always use official cartridges.

Why is this fight such a piece of shit, defiling an otherwise nice game thus far?

And how the fuck do you even have a chance to beat it, when it just jumps around like a retard while doing un-counterable DOT and what feels like 10 second stuns?

Secret of Mana general?

Most action games are redoing the same thing again and again until you memorize patterns and git gud. Bad analogy.

Well, emulators are completely legal and it should be possible to make an iso that could be run on a normal console if they could do something like that for demo disks.

Can Kirby games be considered platformers? Most of the time you just fly over all obstacles. There's hardly any need to use the jump button.
