Even though this is terrible bait I actually do blind buy retro games.

I want too buy Pac Man 2 but I just can't decide if I should take the SNES or Genesis version. Which should I take?

why don't you emulate both and see which you like better?

SNES has the better digitized voices and the Genesis has a better mini-game.

That's the point, I did that but I'm not sure which one I like more.

One of those hard as fuck and awesome games that rocked everyone's childhood. Today I made it to level 23. How far has anyone made it without any password?

I beat the game. It's actually easier without passwords because you get to stock up on items.

game isn't that bad if you manage your resources. It gave me a hell of a time as a kid and I could never get past that level with those giant snakes. Although after getting older and when I started to not waste all my keys or stronger items the game became a lot more manageable. Play and beat it at least once a year now.

EGM did a section on it before when they were covering "Beavis and Butthead Do Hollywood" which was another cancelled game. It's quite a rare find, allegedly only two were made, one was at the MTV office. One belonged to Mike Judge and no one has dumped the ROM.

>avoid all chocobo spin offs because I figure they will be childish/soulless games

>Finally try Chocobo Racing 15 years later
>it's a childish/soulless game

The one good thing I will say is the graphics/ characters are very well done. As is Story Mode.

The problem though is this is a racing game and the racing fucking sucks. If you fuck up majorly once, you might as well restart the race because the boss will be half way across the map by time you recover.

It uses a system very similar to Mario Kart Racing with powerups/attacks and such, but using them is just boring and not fun at all.

The tracks are very basic and also not fun.

The game is cute, but thats it.
Is chocobo's dungeon 1 & 2 any good?
I somehow doubt it.

To clarify, when I say "childish" I just mean it has no real depth and feels like it was made for a young kid to fuck with, not FF fans.

I never experienced any discomfort from the VB screens.

I used to lay on the couch with the VB balanced on my face and play hours of Teleroboxer.

>I used to lay on the couch with the VB balanced on my face and play hours of Teleroboxer.

Same, suppossedly it isn't good to use it that way because even a slight move while the screens are spinning might damage them.

Never had any problem though.

OP, which games did you got? whole library is about 20 games. Most of them are worth playing, just avoid Waterworld unless you can get it for dirt cheap because that game is not very good.

There's also a flashcart called Flash Boy which not only lets you play all the VB games but also homebrew stuff like the newly released Snatcher VB port, or unreleased games like High Bound.

Sanwa VS Happ sticks.

Pros, cons, general discussion.

Sanwa if you want accuracy and stability for fighting games

Seimitsu if you want accuracy and stability for shmups and/or platformers

Happ / IL if you hate accuracy or tight feel and would rather have the stick value durability over all other features.

I have some seimitsu parts (stick and buttons) incoming for my Saturn stick... Maybe I should've have chosen Sanwa buttons instead of Seimitsu though. Fortunately I got them extremely cheap (150 yen per button), so I might replace them in the future, provided they fit in the case.

Diver's Dream (JP: Dolphin's Dream) was an underwater exploration game localized and released only in PAL territories. For a game of its kind it has a very "game-y" bent, unlike the more free-roaming Aquanaut's Holiday or Endless Blue. Your mission is to explore sunken ships and wreckage and recover well over 100 unique treasures, as well as scraps that you can trade in for varying amounts of money. With that you can purchase better diving equipment (you start off with a pair of swim trunks) and weapons (to fend off sharks and dangerous fish). These are also customizeable by the player.

The whole process of venturing ever-father into the sunken ships and caves, only to surface with new treasure and buy even better equipment, is really addictive. There is also a Free Mode so you can explore to your heart's content though, and even during salvage missions you get to roam around very wide areas.

Though the game's cutscenes are pretty ugly and swimming animations are stiff and basic, it's still totally worth playing today. On the PS2, the sorely overlooked Everblue 2 would employ a very similar game structure of diving and salvaging, and I believe it was released in all regions.

The Firemen 2: Pete & Danny is a sequel to the SNES hidden gem which basically functioned like a top-down shooter, except you were shooting out pressurized water to put out the most malicious fire ever.

In this Japan-only sequel protagonist Pete returns, now joined by his buddy Danny for two-player co-op action. You go around putting out several mysteriously-started fires all around New York City on Christmas Eve, which for some reason was a very popular time and place among late-nineties video games. There's a lot more visual variety in the game's stages and the core gameplay remains the same.

Compared to the first game, The Firemen 2's sprite work is sort of bland and dull, but still totally serviceable, and it's also kind of needlessly text-heavy, which will especially be a slog if you don't speak Japanese. It's still a totally worthwhile adventure.

I'm already in world 2 of Super mario 3 Mix.

I fell in love with that romhack. The level design is great (inspired by the three NES mario games, plus some super mario world), and getting all the star coins on each level is a fun challenge.

Also, playing with toad is great.

Go play that shit. You'll fall in love as soon as you see the title screen.
>>
I have a bunch of SMW rom hacks downloaded, and they all seem pretty diverse, but I'm curious if there's one that just feels like a proper sequel to SMW. Good, consistent level design, good difficulty curve that isn't too hard, good length, secrets, etc.
