The story is what kills me.
Its pretty much obvious that they are making shit up as the game progresses to keep the player engaged and rack up +40h which is fine and all but it doesn't cut it for me anymore.
Ive played and finished FF1,FF3 and FF4 I think Im done with this franchise.
Was Parasite Eve the original Final Fantasy 7? I know storywise it is a loose sequel to the book of the same name but virtually everything else reminds me of what Hironobu Sakaguchi wanted FF7 to be in his original drafts. The whole New York motif and the detective job it's all there. Even the characters from PE resemble characters from FF7 (Aya=Cloud, Daniel=Barret, Eve=Jenova, Klamp=Hojo). It just seems like too close of a connection to be coincidental. Is Parasite Eve the very game that shows us what FF7 could've been it seems too big to just have taken small influences from Sakaguchi's old ideas.

According to Tetsuya Nomura, the series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi originally "wanted to do a detective story" with the first part involving a "hot-blooded" character named "Detective Joe", in pursuit of characters after they had blown up the city of Midgar. There was a character who was supposed to be a detective named Joe. While Joe as a character personality/desgn wise was never finalized his role was given to Aya. The city blown up could have been what the opera scene is now since it is what began Aya's search for Eve.

Yeah, I think I've read about this in the FF Ultimania guide. Sounds plausible, too, seing as devs reuse assets and ideas all the time.
Is there an SD card reader for the PSX or PS2? I know there's one for the Saturn and Dreamcast.

"SD card reader" is misleading. There is a specific device for Dreamcast called SD card reader and they're not really for loading games.
GDEMU for Dreamcast and Rhea/Phoebe for Saturn are ODEs that happen to use SD cards for storage. There's also USB-GDROM which is also an ODE but uses USB devices.
If you want an ODE for PlayStation, then the only one atm is PSIO. Most people don't mind installing a modchip and burning games.
For PS2, you can get FMBC and load games over an internal hard drive or through a network with OPL. There's also USB loading, but it's shitty.

It's Zelda with a more complex plotline full of cyberpunk and time-travelling and japan, more fluid controls, multiple time periods, and great graphics and music.
Will there ever be a chance of seeing a graphically updated donkey kong country 2 (or 1 or 3)? Gameplay would be identical, but I'd love to see updated 3D rendered backgrounds and sprites.
Just use a CRT TV, they still look stunning when the resolution isn't stretched to hell by modern screens.

Pixels as is look better already than it ever would in HD. Those models were not attractive in high res.
I doubt it. Nintendo typically only does remakes / updated ports when it's relatively easy for them. All the original uncompressed assets from those games are long gone.

And consider if in some bizarro worldit had gotten raped into a franchise with yearly or near-yearly releases and had as many entries as Final Fantasy, Mario, Sonic, etc

Alex Kidd would be to Sonic like Kirby is to Mario, a secondary mascot with no real bad games under his belt, also the janken mini games would die out or stay a small gameplay feature, like the card games in Mario 3. also I think that the exploration and shop mechanics might have been fixed and expanded upon... I put way to much thought into something like this but I seriously wish there were more Alex Kidd and to some extent fantasy zone games.
I think Bonk could have made a great transition to a manic 3D platformer and could have kept its relevancy in modern times as a zany video game parody series.
I'd really like to play Bonko Fantasy, Bonk of War and Bonk of Cootie: Prehistoric Warfare.
Once there was an arcade game made using actual rock music from the band Aerosmith. It had ports to both the SNES and Genesis.
