How about a thread about "okay" games for change? I can't be the only one who is tired of seeing the exact same threads about the exact same "overrated" and "underrated" games that usually consist the exact same arguments about which term should be applied to which game? So try thinking about the most okay game you can think of and write a small description of it.

I just finished pic related and it is the most okay game I have played in a while. Every single aspect of Xardion was so okay nothing about it really stands out but I still had a good time with it and will recommend anyone who hasn't played it giving it a go. The game itself really is your average run of the mill action platformer that features a space/robot/mecha theme, very generic gameplay, level design and enemies. To give it some credit it does have a RPG like experience/level system and 3 characters for you to control that attempt to give it some uniqueness.

OK games?

Well, STG Strike Gunner was pretty O.K. in my book. It did its job, was rather good without really messing anything up.

I'll play.

Fun little side scrolling space shooter. Music is kinda cool but just loops the same thing. Only two levels iirc that repeat so you're basically going for high score which is fun with some pals. Plus I always thought those SMS cards were nifty.

So i got a decent gamepad on my PC to play retro and other games. see Pic.

I'm pretty happy with it, and is perfect for general usage, it has plenty of buttons, but on look the gamecube and wii u classic pro and x-boxgame pads look more comfy. Especially that button alaignment on the xbox pad.

What's youre favourite controller?

If you're going to buy a controller like that you might as well just use a PS3 controller.
>>
>>3211113
Is that a generic controller? I has a dozen of them, they are acceptable for a while but they are low quality and break down eventually.

I'm pretty comfy with my 360 pad, 2.5 years now.

360 wired pads plug & play with windows 7+
There's a literally $2 adapter to use PS1 & PS2 controllers on USB plug & play and on ps3 I'm told
Lots of people use arcade sticks of course
I personally mainly use a 6th gen Pelican Real Arcade stick with an adapter
A very popular choice for the budget conscious's first arcade stick is the Hori 360 fightstick
Get something with real arcade components for refurbishing/upgrading it'll last forever
If you think the dpads you listed are good try a SNES, Saturn or Neo Geo pad

So /vr/ which is your favorite out of the Heretic - Hexen = Hexen 2 etc saga?

Heretic > Hexen >>> Hexen 2

Heretic was an amazing FPS. I'd even say it's on par with Doom in a lot of ways.
Heretic is ambitious and had a kickass concept, but fell short in execution. Classic case of eyes bigger than the stomach.
Hexen 2 tried to fix the predecessor but repeated the same mistakes less the charm of the original.

Growing up as a PC gamer there weren't too many platformers on the PC back then. We had the Apogee games and later Zool and Jazz Jack Rabbit. One game I've REALLY enjoyed is COOL SPOT. Every summer I feel like touching this gem again. The game play is VERY smooth and it feels great. The atmosphere is nice - but that mostly applies to the beach level. Unfortunately the level inside the house with the rats is a bit annoying and I don't even think I ever managed to beat this game. Cool Spot 2 with it's isometric view...was that any good because I do not like it.
What version / port is the best anyways? I really enjoy the DOS version. Just look at that dithering. I think I will try the SNES version now though. What was the deal with Cool Spot anyways (I am not American). Was he the mascot of 7UP? I thought Feedodeedo or however you spell that triangle face dude was their mascot.

Always loved the music in this. Sounded like a Beach Boys rip off.
>>
>>3208461
It's a 99% eye candy fest and I don't even care; comfy AF game

I tend to like the Genesis or PC/Amiga versions best; the SNES version has nice transparency effects and whatnot, but the screen layout feels weirdly crowded and the HUD is less cool. I grew up with the Master System port though, of all things

Cool Spot used to be the Sonic to Fido Dido's Alex Kidd; FD eventually made a comeback in the 2000s, since Spot was too aggressively ninetiesy probably

Previous thread: >>3194473

This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!

>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.
>Produce OC! Get out your real cameras and take beautiful pictures of your CRTs displaying recognizable characters with the kind of beautiful accuracy that brings tears to the eyes of young and old alike! If you take 100 photos, at least one of them will turn out alright! (maybe)
>Try to be as detailed as possible when asking info on a specific model. As always, google is your friend, and we are your friends with benefits. Older archived threads aren't a bad place to look either.
>Share appreciation for others choice of technology and personal philosophy of gaming. As always show courtesy in your discussion and moderate yourselves first.

Discussion of video processing and scaling devices is okay, but try to keep the focus on CRTs and CRT accessories

What are some underrated retro composers?

For me it's Soyo Oka. She did Pilotwings, Super Mario Kart, Sim City and the updates to Super Mario All Stars.

3 then 4

You can play BoF 1 and 2 if you really like the others, but they feel more dated and are not that good storywise
>>
>>3152038
3 looks really good, but it's incredibly slow and boring. They really could have cut the entirety of the pre-time skip.
>>
>>3152030
1 or 4. 1 if you want to play them all. They get progressively better, so that will give you the most fun with the least disappointment.

4 if you just want to see what Breath of Fire is like. It's the best game in the series.

You will also get the recommendation that 3 is by far the best in the series by someone who played that one first. 3 is good, but I disagree with it being anywhere near as good as 4. He's very fond of it though so you might be too.

I feel extremely bad for not wanting to vote for Cyclone City and Rampaging River.
Don't get me wrong, they look extremely nice, but goddamn they're just so huge. I have no fucking idea how to plan a park in those, so I just resort to spaghetti-ing the fuck out of them which is pretty fun, but still.
