I want to live in a world where all 3D Sonic games were like the ones on Sega Saturn.
>>3213359
I never understood why they couldn't make a full game out of this, sonic R was a fast paced game so why don't mix that with this and get shit done.
>>3213359
I do too... maybe one day someone who likes the Saturn enough will make a fangame/ROM hack worthy of being played.
>>3213365
also i love the model of sonic in this and sonic R, i don't remember if saturn 3D blast has that design.
>Mediocre Story
>No job / spell learning system
>Straight level grinding
>Easy bosses
>Great Music
Not saying it was terrible game but was this the worst in the final fantasy series? It didn't have improved gameplay like any of the previous games did. I feel like this game was as barebones as an rpg can get.
The story was pretty great for SNES era. This was the first game I ever played where party members permanently died or left.
I don't know, it was my first RPG so maybe I'm biased but I always liked it. It's simple yeah, but there's nothing wrong with that since it's entertaining and short.
Ai from deathgaze likes it, so it can't be bad.
How ubiquitous were sound cards in the old (90s) days of gaming? Did people really shell out $200+ for this pic related bad boy to get better MIDI support for DooM and Ultima?
Sound card stuff is way before my time so I wouldn't even know how to compare minimum requirements. What happened if you had an outdated card? Would there be no sound, would the sound just not be as good?
>>3217138
Back in the day it made a big difference. Not really anymore, or past 96/97 after doom came out really. Processors became powerful enough where the identical thing could be done in software. The main issue is the quality of your pre-amp.
yes people paid money for sound cards you fucking idiot how old are you?
>>3217147
What I mean is, did people get excited about sound cards the way people do about video cards today? Did they buy them day one and strap them in with a sense of anticipation of better bleeps and bloops?
Or was it just a necessity, and that most people went for an older or bargain model.
This also would've been before the days of a computer being a multimedia center so in the early 90s I imagine a lot of general comsumers skimping on the sound card and just having no sound at all. Or maybe they didn't,...

What's the best NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, N64 controllers for PC?
DS3
>>3215252
But what is the best brand/model of each of those controllers that look like the original?
>>3215260
>>3215247
>>3215260
Just use a fucking PS3 controller shit. If it costs too much use a ps2 controller with an adapter. If you want to use your controller in pc games, don't want to spend 50 bucks and want wireless get an afterglow controller. Otherwise just get usb adapters for the console controllers you want and use the original controllers you faggot
Is it just nostalgia or is it really one of the greatest games of all time? What's everyone's favorite part? Favorite character/materia/boss/OST?
>>3212747
Mostly nostalgia. It's not one of the greatest games of all time but it's still pretty damn good. My favorite part would be all of Midgar, my favorite character is Cid, my favorite materia would be the 4x Cut, I don't have a favorite boss and my favorite OST would be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrwQPtxR36M

I didn't think it was that good. Going to go with nostalgia.
I am playing throught it for the first time right now.
I will post my thoughts on it as soon as I finish.
Are eBay threads allowed? I'm kind of new to buying retro games, used to just emulate them and it seems like eBay is generally the best place to find them. So eBay thread I guess.
Share your best bargains, worst losses etc. Is sniping the only viable way to get games at decent prices?
I got these for $180 recently. More then I should have paid, but I can afford it. Got to rebuild that N64 collection.

im also interested in what kinds of deals people have gotten
I just realised Phantasy Star is the only well known oldschool jrpg I haven't played yet, because I was focused mainly on NES, SNES and PSX/PS1.
I want to play it and the sequels on my Android tablet. What are the best versions to emulate? Is the collection for GBA any good?
Phantasy Star thread?
Skip the GBA ports. SMS and Genesis emulators work just fine.
>>3208252
Enable FM Sound Unit in your SMS emulator and play with the SMPower translation patch.
THEN play PS2 on the Genesis. If the grind is too much, you could use an XP hack, I guess.
PS3 is optional, as it's a side-story with some references to the other games, and it's honestly kinda shitty compared to the rest of the series.
PS4, the magnum opus of PS and arguably the greatest JRPG of the '90s, then awaits you.

i dont
but countless others do, perhaps thinking it will keep the content coming quicker
it never does, look at spoony or anyone else who relies on patreon, they just almost stop completely as if they're made it and there is nothing else to prove.
>>3206650
I don't get this shit. Why not just play games instead of watching people play them?
>>3206675
they chase them at markets and shit, they barely ever show themselves playing them.
What's the most nostalgia has cost you? I played pic related when I was ten or 11 at the Best Buy, I always longed to play it as an adult, and after dropping like $250 on the whole setup I was like man this game is a piece of fuck
Just wondering other's similar experiences
Yeah, the ads for that game made it look fantastic
Too bad it's kinda shit
They nailed the atmosphere for the tech they had, though.

There are at lest 4 variants that i have seen as a kid and one of them is dendy.

As far as I know people pushed specific clone in USSR and everything else in the rest of the eastern block states.

First line is dumb because Dreamcast, a 6th gen console, got allowed on here.
>tfw just scored 43 NES games for only $150, including LoZ, SMB2&3, Kirby's Adventure, Final Fantasy 1, Dragon Warrior 1, tested and all working (except one which seems to have corroded contacts, but it's just Destination Earthstar)
>tfw I could easily flip this for 2 (or 3) times what I paid for it, but I won't

Games that are enjoyed best in top down/sidescroller and will never have the same charm in 3D
I think the sonic series is a good example of sidescrolling gottagofast was the best format and moving in to 3D lost any charm it had

I agree.
Also Castlevania and Megaman.
>>3221362
All of them

Anything that is not fighting games.
I've never played any Metal Slug game so I'd like to correct this. What's the best way to play those games nowadays? Upon googling I noticed Steam had a bunch of them but all the comments are saying it's badly emulated (as usual).
So far what I'm planning on doing :
Metal Slug 1 - ?
Metal Slug 2 - ?
Metal Slug 3 - ?
Metal Slug 4 - ?
Metal Slug 5 - ?
Metal Slug 6 - ?
Metal Slug 7 - DS
What about the remakes, spin-offs, compilations listed over there? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Metal_Slug_video_games#Remakes

Correction
Metal Slug 7 - PSP (under the title Metal Slug XX)
I don't know about the Steam release, as far as I know it's just a hacked Final Burn emulator. That should cover up to MS5.
Anyway get the anthology for MS6.
Also dude, don't stress over 1ccs. That's for try hards.
Metal Slug 1 - Saturn
Metal Slug X - PS1
Metal Slug 3 - Xbox
Metal Slug 4 and 5 - PS2
Metal Slug 6 and 7 - lol get out of here
Such an underrated system.
more like LameGear
What was that OP? I couldn't hear you over the sound of changing out my batteries.
