I am building an emulation box, a computer dedicated to running emulators in a front end connected to my TV. Does anyone else do this?
I am currently using a Super Small Form Factor Core 2 Duo machine I grabbed at a thrift store for $30. It's a Dell Optiplex 755 with a 2.3ghz Dual Core CPU running Linux Mint. This unit is a nice choice because it has a built in speaker and it's pretty loud.
I know Raspberry Pis are the popular choice but they are pretty underpowered and you cant get good performance with some games unless you overclock. I get similar...

Yeah ive got a small box hooked up to a crt.
>Any tips to make this better?
Intel desktop is the only way to go.
Just use a standard (although preferably small form factor) desktop with VGA out. You'll get leagues better emulation performance than you would with something like a Pi, even if you decide to refurbish an old single-core legacy Pentium desktop.
How do I hook up a pc to a crt properly?
r8 my SMB level 1 run

I'd call it more of a jog.
Am I ever going to get this game for a decent price, my god saturn scalping is at its worst
>>3297442
It is on the Xbox 360 for just $15USD, sometimes on sale for $5. I got it back in the day for $55 but the teeth on the case holding the disc got smashed in through shipping. You pay way less now than I did back then.
>>3297442
No, but at least you can download and play it. Saturn prices seem to be on the rise lately, I don't know why. I'm thinking of picking up Cyberbots while it's still reasonable.
I burned a CD-R with it and it works perfectly.
Playing backups on Saturn is now easier than ever either with modchip or pseudosaturn.
What went wrong? Was it the fact that it was underpowered for the price? Was it the fact that it was released so soon after the 32x debacle? Was it the lack of 3rd party games? Or all of the above?
I wonder how they could have screwed this system up as far as what has made it fail in the shadows of Nintendo and Sony. They could have totally redeemed themselves after the 32x. I mean it wasn't all that bad, it was just completely pointless.
Did they just botch the whole design/tech of this console? I know there are great games out there in retrospect, but there's...

It didn't have blast processing.

Genesis popularity was built on Sonic, MK, and Sports.
Sony had MK3 and Sport Games while Sega was just putting out arcade games. To many people, PS1 felt like the true Genesis successor.
Well they pushed the release of the console forward for no reason, fucked up the schedule of many devs, fucked over the other devs like EA who caused a public fuss and created a bad image.
Finally they released it only 2 weeks before Sony's curb stomp of a console which had been hyped like the second coming of jesus.
Why the hate for All Stars?
It unifies the games with a consistent look while retaining all of the same movement mechanics and feel the originals had.
>>3296595
>retaining all of the same movement mechanics and feel the originals had
No, the physics are off.
honestly i just loved it for battle mode on SMB3. would take a flash drive to school with 2 ps3 controllers and play on school computers with friends on lunch.
>>3296595
>retaining all of the same movement mechanics and feel the originals had
No. The physics were imperfect.

Is it still worth getting a hold of the original cart?
Yes, even more if you have the OG version with the monk chants and the islam moon.
Otherwise the Gamecube version is better than the censored N64 one. It also includes Master Quest.
But 3DS version is still worth having also. Lots of improvements and a mirrored Master Quest and the ability to refight bosses any time you want.
It's not like Majora's Mask where the changes were actually drastic. They made the art style a bit more cartoony and brightened up the shadow temple and ganon fight.
>>3295385
Those changes aren't a big deal to us but I'd never recommend OOT3D to someone that hasn't played it, they take so much atmosphere out of the game's final few hours.
There's a remake in the works.
November 17th.
http://yu-no.jp/special/
I'll be honest by saying that I'm not too fond of the character style in the remake. Compared to the classic look, she looks more like a child.
Why is this a thing? Remaking classic awesome visual novels with kuso art?
Why would anyone want to cheat at a Video Game?
>>3294407
You are giving galaga anon a boner.
>Because I don't hold video games in such high esteem I capitalize the term as if it's a proper noun
>Because I want to practice technique for later unassisted competitive play
>Because I'm curious about some element of the game that is either completely inaccessible or inaccessible at the skill level I'm willing to achieve
>To make the game harder
Because I want to see the ending, and since I have sex with women I already feel like enough of a man without needing to substitute that with video game accomplishments.
I know it's a popular meme and all, but has anyone on here ever actually beaten Contra without using the Konami Code? I've been trying but I'm close to giving up, I honestly don't see how this is possible.
GG faggot
Yes. Practice.
I hate the third person stages, so I'm not one to talk. But supposedly Contra is pretty easy.
Why has Nintendo been unable to surpass it?
I dunno, OP. Skyward Sword is a pretty crappy game which came close, but you're right, Adventures of Link wasn't surpassed yet as the crappiest.
>>3292032
Because Zelda 2 was made without the expectation of it following a certain railroad/mindset.
It's unironically my favorite Zelda game. ALttP and OOT are great games and deserve the praise they get, but AoL's is still my favorite.

Cool bandwagon opinion, memelord.

It was pretty shit this year.
E3 used to be a really magical time, back when most of your gaming news was from Magazines.
The E3 issues were always the best. Chock full of new announcements. New consoles, awesome new games, etc.
Now it's just even more obvious it's all literally just a show to get people hyped.
I watched the Sony press conference, and they're all wowed and in awe when [s]The Last of Us[/s] God of...

Shame her game is garbage.

The country war line was a good addition, but the
>boring, long-winded technical discussions like the last thread (unless it's technical discussions about the X68000, PC-8801, etc)
is a bit too much. Many of these posts were actually interesting, though some of these were copy paste of wikipedia stuff and/or forum posts, which was indeed a bit annoying.
Also, this thread come a bit early, there was still room for discussion in the previous one before being archived. But...

Proofs?
I don't know why, but i have a strange affection for glitches and similar things. Not in a sexual way or something, but i am just fascinated by them.
I love glitches. I sometime get out my NES and put my games in, only half the way, in hope of achieving some glitches. At a local store, the clerk behind the counter wanted to throw away a copy of LoZ II, because it was not working properly. I took it for free, and sometimes give it a run, trying to get new results. The Vinesauce Corrupter may be nice, you can experiment and get more results, but it is just not the...

Then WHY would you bring that up?
I know what you mean op. Glitched out games are just kinda relaxing.
I was playing joust the other day and couldnt get my cart to read properly. I ended up playing anyway. Damn screen was red vertical bars with red blocks as me/ enemies. Music was playing perfectly too. It was very enjoyable
