Any other good Asterix games?
The arcade game was pretty good from what I remember.
There were at least a couple of nice 3d Asterix games released for PS1, not sure if those were released in the US though.

Asterix and the secret mission for the MS is like an updated version of that one, the GB games are clearly inspired by it too but they're not that good.
What is the oldest save file you have?
I'm pretty sure my Super Mario 64 cart has my original (unfinished) file from 1997. I'll get around to it some day...
Probably Kirby's Adventure. It was the only NES game I had back in the day with a save feature.
Probably a file on my SNES Super Mario All-Stars.
Then again, that game had a habit of deleting saves randomly, so it might be gone at this point.

A few years ago this was literally me. My friend came over and beat it for me. We were like 20. It's my oldest save too.
is quest 64 a good game
S'ok

Even back in the day, I didn't like it enough to finish it. It is very, very boring.
I bought it because it was supposed to be an actual rpg for n64, which had none at the time.
But yeah, as much as I wanted to bring myself to like it I just couldnt.
Who had the better library pre-merger?
I always liked Enix more.
Square did some of the best and most polished JRPGs, but Enix had more variety and experimental stuff, apart from classic series like Dragon Quest.
Enix was more of a publisher though, Square had more in-house development, but fewer variety as a whole.
My vote goes to Squaresoft. They didn't want to leave any stone unturned when it came to experimenting with different genres, especially RPGs. Every FF game basically had its own gimmick or character development system, whereas DQ games were nearly carbon copies in terms of gameplay mechanics. Although Square could take innovation only so far before they started churning out a lot of weird B-class games like Chocobo Racing.
I like some class Enix games, but the company's localization got progressively worse, especially during the fifth generation. Shortly after...

Square.
Hi,
I wanted to talk about ant-related games. As far as I know, SimAnt is the best one. I give SimAnt 9/10. Do you also enjoy SimAnt?
I enjoyed the game. Wish there were other colony management games similar to it.
This game is way too easy. It pretty much just wins by itself.
OP is an ant, right?
I always thought Zool was an ant too, but actually Zool is a gremlin.
ITT: Games you surprisingly liked or thought would be shit and ended up liking.
I'm rather pessimistic when it comes to movie based games, but I found this game to be fairly good. The music is catchy and gameplay is pretty fun and I've gotten addicted to wanted to beat it quite a few times.
Played the shit out of that as a kid. Prior i had only played Mario stuff so even being able to go directions other than right felt like a leap!

I like the nintendo game ALOT. It's thrilling.
Is this game similar?
WHY IS THE JAPANESE SOUNDTRACK SO AMAZING HOLY SHIT
because they were having fun.
>>3302616
Do you mean in general, or just sonic?
>>3302627
Sonic CD Japanese/Euro Soundtrack is godly anon
>Why did they change from Survival horror to run and gun?
Resident Evil-Code Veronica (and the gamecube remakes) are some of my favorite games, but once they released 4 the series went to shit.
>>3302415
How? I never post on here or /v/ however I did read the sticky here and it says games launched before 1999. Since I was discussing the series as a whole (not to mention the first 3 games came out before 99) I thought this would be the appropriate board.
Sorry if it isnt.
>>3302406
cause' casual gamers are to stupid for immersive stuff. they need quick and fast boom boom action now.
Let's talk about old school fighters from Street Fighter to Capcom vs SNK 2. Also, post mains.
>friends play Mortal Kombat
>try to best me at Street Fighter
>mfw i wreck them all as Dan Hibiki
oh shit, /vr/ exclusive template
>>3300908
I don't quite understand how that is any impressive. Dan is god tier, he is the king of fighters.
I've just started my Super Famicom collection and have been ordering carts online. How can I tell the difference between a repro and the real thing? Also, general repro thread.
No screws in the cart is a dead giveaway. Also, if there is no sticker on back
On a related note, how good are ebay for refunding money you've spent on bootlegs?
If the auction didn't specify it as a reproduction, 9 chances out of 10 a PayPal refund will cover you
I'm currently emulating on a Wii and am using component cables on a rear projection LCD tv. The games look great, but I was wondering if picking up VGA cables and hooking it up to a CRT monitor would produce a better picture with no lag

I love A Link to the Past, don't get me wrong - but is it me, or is that game's art style kind of ugly? Something about the color palette doesn't appeal to me.
>>3298616
I always thought both ALTTP and SMW looked kind of weird as a kid actually. Growing up I kinda like SMW's art now but ALTTP still looks kinda ugly to me, still it was released pretty early in the system's life time so I guess it's understandable.
>>3298743
Weird thing is I loved ALTTPs style but never enjoyed SMW, ever. Even now I just can't seem to enjoy the way it looks. Weirdly enough I love Yoshis Island for its style.
Maybe SMW falls into a weird uncanny valley. for me.
>>3298616
Looks kinda RPG Maker desu.
I'm playing this on NDS and I think I'm almost at the end, but I can't seem to figure out why the game is so overrated.
Don't get me wrong, I'm having a lot of fun and I really think it is a really good game, but I think it's rating is way above of what it should be.
Am I missing something? Because I can't really think about anything other than nostalgia as the reason for why people love it so much.
Also, recommend some good JRPGs or Western RPG if you want.
>>3298358
You're being pretty vague, what don't you like about it exactly? If your at the end I imagine you like it fine. Also what do you want in a jrpg? Its hard to recommend specific games to you when you didn't leave any reasons you didn't like chrono trigger.
I didn't get a chance to play it until the Chronicles port, and I found it to be pretty overrated. It's a solid game on its own merits, but just not the kind of game that encourages you to revisit it, despite the existence of a New Game+ mode.
For starters, all the characters are forced into specific class roles, so you don't get to customize their skills or equipment, aside from some liberties with armor and accessories. I think Chrono Cross took things in the right direction with the element grid, since you could customize character abilities however...

Well, there's not something in particular I didn't like, I just didn't feel like it's that good. The story is really good, but not quite 10/10. Same goes for the music, graphics, etc. You got what I mean? It's not that it has something bad to ruin it's 10/10 score, it's just that it does not have anything so special to make it 10/10. Maybe my only real complaint is that I found the game to be pretty easy. I didn't die until now and I have about 20 hours of gameplay.
What...

What is /vr/'s preferred way to play Quake 1 on Linux? I googled around and found so many ports/engines I don't know which one to pick. Is there anything equivalent to gzdoom in terms of current development/users/features?

I use darkplaces. It works well. It's in the repos for some distros aswell.

Quakespasm.
Does /vr/ like Nintendo Power?
What's your favorite issue or cover?
What memories about it do you have?
>tfw it ended in 2012
I really wish there was a full archive for issues released from 2001-2005.
That's when I would just pour over the magazines night and day, rereading them to no end. I don't have any of them anymore though and I want to relive my childhood.
>>3298379
Also, born in 1993. Not underage.
>>3298279
I had a subscription around the time first gen pokemon and n64 were important...the spines of multiple issues would create an image when stacked, which was cool and encouraged my hoarding
