I briefly played Diablo II and Starcraft as a kid at friend's houses, and I'm thinking about diving into them for myself finally along with the first Diablo and the Warcraft series (fuck WoW).
Are they worth the time needed to complete them in 2016?
>>3297002
Why not? What else you got going on?
Add Dungeon Keeper to that list
>>3297002
>Are they worth the time needed to complete them in 2016?
Diablo 1 and 2 and Warcraft 2 and 3, yes.
Starcraft was best online playing against people, it's not the same against the computer imo. Warcraft 3 is good alone though.
>>3297005
I'm currently playing through Return To Castle Wolfenstein for the first time an having an absolute blast, I haven't had so much fun with a game in quite a while. Kind of ignited an "old games I never really played" kick. I just wanted to know if they were still good games 15-20 years later or if some were worth skipping.
I'll give Dungeon Keeper a look though!
Atari 2600 thread
Hi Mike
Just got fathom after seeing the CGR review. I wish imagic had kept making games, I would have loved to see what they could have busted out on NES hardware.
2600 consoles surprisingly costly for how unpopular they are. Meanwhile, the games are still dirt cheap as they ever were. Is it a fail rate? Console-only shelf collectors?
Which cross-platform games were better on the Genesis?
>>3295208
I unironically believe The Lost Vikings was better on genesis.
>>3295208
almost all the disney stuff, what you listed, and street fighter II champion edition (retained cps1 strings)
Much better than its SNES counterpart.
Do any of you guys still play the dreamcast online?
I'm looking to set up dreampi soon.
What games still work, and are there even any people still playing online?
>>3297140
Quake 3 and PSO from what I can recall. Maybe some other titles?
>>3294398
If I had the cable modem I would, but it's so expensive, and the workarounds are such a fuck about that it just doesn't seem worthwhile to me.
You know who makes cool games? Taito. So let's talk about them.
After Sega, Taito made the best 3D sprite-scaling games. Like Night Striker, which I recommend to all fans of Space Harrier.
What are your favorite games from Taito?

If you enjoy arena shooters at all you owe it to yourself to play Dead Connection. It's literally an unlicensed version of The Untouchables. Also, one of the best games for destructible/interactive scenery ever.

Elevator Action Returns is a very good one, I got Taito Legends 2 on PS2 primarily for that.

This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!
>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.

Does anyone have a guess as to what model CRT this is? Or a line at least. Looking to upgrade my CRT and this 31 in. Sharp caught my attention. I don't need anything beyond S-Video and this supplies it. Much appreciated
>>3291493
Back of the CRT if it helps. I've tried asking the seller about the model number too but they're a bit slow to respond.
>>3291047
No official one, just Hyperkin brand Wii/PS3 ones. I can't help but feel like these "all-in-one solution" cables aren't made that well.
>>3290979
So should I hunt down the transcoder you have? Or will this one work:
https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-107113-Component-YpbPr-Converter/dp/B009GUQYBO/
Comments say it works but it slightly scales to match VGA resolution.
what does /vr/ think of Deja Vu?
i never see it mentioned here, but it's a great game. it got me into both point and click games and visual novels
Loved it! I came from point and click C64 and also loved Shadowgate. Would of loved to have seen more of these types of games.
>>3288414
I dunno, I've been meaning to get a GBC copy to go with my GBC copy of shadowgate.
I love this game.
Me too anon, me too...
Daily reminder that you will never live in Lindblum.
Here's some early concept art that never made it into the game.
>>3286280
google image search says FFT, and I'm inclined to believe it because that looks nothing like FF9 concept art.
What does /vr/ think of Kenji Eno and his games?
For those unaware, Eno was a game designer best known for the D trilogy (D, Enemy Zero and D2), all titles featuring "Laura", the protagonist stylized as a "digital actress". Before dying, Eno purportedly had been working on designing a game for the blind.
Personally, Eno's great concepts, no matter how avant garde for their time, never translated into good gameplay. All his games are worth playing for the experience, but never had any replayability. He came close with D2, but the repetitive...

The better part about Eno is Eno himself. It's another case of an artist being more interesting than their works, which are only somehow enjoyable because they're really weird.
I've played D and Enemy Zero
I WANTED to enjoy them, but they just weren't very good games.
>>3284334
You should have started with D2 since it's by far the easiest to get into.
It's that time motherfuckers. DQ up to VII to be discussed.
Best Game?
Best Protag?
Best Waifu?
Best Boss?
Best recruitable monster in V and VI?
I'm actually towards the end of DQV on the SNES right now myself, about to enter the Demon World. I should probably do some grinding because Bianca is underlevelled and underequipped, plus there are some more monsters I'm looking to recruit.
>>3210519
>he still plays jarpigs
>>3210519
>Best recruitable monster in V and VI?
The answer to both is slime knight.
>>3210519
>Best Game
Tie between V and II. V had a much more interesting story in my opinion because of how you follow this character from youth to old age. A lot of little things in that game really captured me for some odd reason. As for II I think it had the best challenge. I also really liked the character designs for some odd reason.
>Best Protag?
V's. VI's comes at a close second though just because he has a bare semblance of personality.
>Best Boss?
I'm really not sure. I really like every final boss in the games if that counts. All their designs/fights are cool.
>Best recruitable
Honestly >>3210525
All the slime anythings in DQ were really good companions.
>Best Waifu?
I think Debora is cute and a really good character but is only in the DS version so I guess she doesn't count.
Bianca is usually who I pick though on SNES.
Is 60€ too much for a blue Neo Geo Pocket Color? Im looking for an alternative to my Gameboy and I love the idea of having a microswitch on a Handheld.

>60 pounds
Cripes man.
I don't think those even cost that much when they were NEW.
>>3304291
Euros not pounds. They were 69.99 USD. If I remember correctly. I was aware of the system when it lauchned and I chose to ignore it and Focus on Nintendo. Should have bought one.
>Also General NGPC Thread
No, it wasn't. You wanted an answer to your question first.
So, im going to start a repro game business, i have 20 boards, shells and burnt eproms on the mail, now i need help chosing a logo or "brand" if you will.
Im inclining for Virus Repros with one of pic related as the logo, im going to order security labels so i dont deal with retards damaging the boards and trying to ask for a refund.
Any help suggestion apprciated.
>>3304076
get a lawyer in preparation for your eventual lawsuit from Square Enix
Unless you can produce them for $5 apiece or less, I'd advise against doing this at all. The only reasons people buy repros are because a) they don't want to get in trouble for downloading a ROM or b) they don't want to invest in a flashcart. That's really the only audience you have with repros.
-That being said-, if there's one thing I think a lot of people would gladly spend a lot of money on, it would be a single multicart with every officially released ROM preinstalled and categorized. Maybe some homebrews and hacks as well. Is that something...

Genesis repros are being sold for $5 and the SNES ones are around $13 on aliexpress. Don't even bother if you can't compete with those prices.
What are some good games like Castlevania
>>3303946
Master of Darkness for the Master System
>>3303946
Rusty on the PC98
>>3303946
Holy Diver
Don't mind me. Just being the best Mario game ever.
>inb4 SMB3 and SMW faggots argue over diverse stages versus open-world design
I'm probably tied between SMW and Yoshi's Island.
3 is just okay for me. I prefer the hidden exits of of World over the abundance of scrolling levels in 3. I think SMW is just a lot tighter as a platformer.
Personally I played 3 and SMW first on neighbor's consoles as a boy. I played Yoshi much later. Yoshi's Island is an awesome example of a late-gen SNES game.
It's neither a good game nor a Mario game.
>>3303572
I like it, but there's one thing I dislike. it's too easy, specially the bosses.
gave a try a few weeks ago and got bored because of how easy it was. At first I thought that maybe it was because I was on the first levels of the game, but then after playing the 3rd tab of the map, shit was still easy in comparison with the other mario games such as Super Mario World.
Classic Fallout thread? Discuss the older entries of the Fallout franchise here.
Ghost Farm is probably the most spooky location in any videogame imo
>>3303616
Ghost farm freaked me out too
I had no idea what was going on
I've put over 2000 hours into Fallout 2. I've never actually finished fallout 1 because of lack of content.
Should I feel bad about this?
