the most fun part of FF7 is arguably just exploring the town and dungeon screens and playing minigames and solving puzzles and shit. they packed a heck of a lot of stuff into those areas.
if it had a fixed number of encounters that occur at specific points on each screen that would probably make it a lot better.

So yesterday I found my old nes, but i doesn't have the a/v cable. It uses this port. I've nevee seen it and can't find it on google, is it hard to find?

Man, so I finished the PSP port of Star Ocean 2 today. I had been playing it for awhile and I have to say everything about it really blew me away and I got super immersed in the story and character building, definitely left me wanting more. I had always had the PSX version growing up but never bothered playing it. The addition of voice acting in this one (I played it undubbed) really made it for me.
I heard 3 and 4 weren't very good, would you recommend them or would I just be let down? I know the series doesn't go on direct continuity, the only character in 1 and 2 appearing in both was Ronyx and I never played the first one either. Is 3 worth playing through or would I just be let down?
Also Star Ocean general I guess.

Godly Plate Of The Whale for my plate armor. The Bunny Hood from Majora's Mask for speed and tacticool maneuvers. Aya's M4A1 from Parasite Eve 2 with the javelin laser attachment for close to mid range precision and mag-dumps. The Grandfather great sword to unzip and unsheathe as my melee weapon, go to town cutting down foes with bonus to hit. And finally the ribbon from FFVII as an obvious choice for protection from negative status effects.

When did you go retro, /vr/?
I mean, at what point in your life did you decide to start playing old games again?
For me it was during 5th gen, around 1997 or so. I had N64, Saturn and PS1, as well as a PC, so I had mostly forgotten about the previous gen games and didn't use my SNES and Genesis anymore, I think the last time I used my SNES back then was in 1996 when DKC3 came out and then went back to play new stuff.
But sometime in 1997 I got the urge to play not 4th gen, but 3rd gen (well, just Famicom, or "Family Game" as it was known in my country). So I went ahead and bought myself a Famiclone with a multicart since my old famiclone was either lost or my mom gave it to charity.
I still remember the guy at the game stop (where I was regular) told me "dude, you really want one of these old consoles? you've got all the new systems, why the hell do you want to play old games?".
My friends told me the same thing.
Fuck it, I remember going back home, plugging that in and playing all my childhood favorites again, felt amazing, first time I felt nostalgia playing games I think.
I didn't go back to 4th gen until maybe 2002.
I never really stopped playing 5th gen I think, even when 6th gen was already stablished I still played my 5th gen systems occasionally alternating with the GC, DC and PS2.
So how about you? at what moment did you stopped caring only about the latest systems and went back to old stuff?
When modern games killed video games with the 6th generation and later.
I went back and started with a bunch of old PC games at first. Later in 2007-8 I started with consoles again.

Whilst clearing some stuff out of my Mrs parent's house we stumbled across a Spectrum with about 40 games. Implying it works, what is it worth? What should I be aware of when selling it?

Even a used but good condition spectrum can still fetch thousands of dollars on a good day!
Even rare good condition tapes are worth a fue hundred each as tape rot has killed most of the games :(

Why don't they make games like this anymore? Survival horrors that rely on exploration and puzzle solving rather than sp00py corridors and jomp scares. It's why I wasn't too excited for Silent Hills anyway.
