Anyone enjoyed VMUs?
Did anyone try to write their own game for VMU?
Maybe anyone here even had Playstation VMU?

Yeah, the VMU is a great item. It was one of the best ideas for the Dreamcast. They should have been a little more powerful, though.
>>
I thought it was great. I don't think it was really used to it's fullest but I suppose that's better than forcing it's gimmick on developers.

I've been using the Unsaturated-V5 from http://www.firebrandx.com/nespalette.html lately in NES emulators, seems to very accurate to the real NES colors.

What palettes do NES emulator and NESRGB users on /vr/ prefer?

There's a handy guide here:

(note, the guide is not complete, feel free to add to it)

There's no perfect palette. Here are my two favorites:

>Sony CXA2025AS (Consumer).

This one is derived from an actual NTSC decoder from Sony televisions. This is probably the most accurate, in that it's what a lot of people in 80's Japan would have used or seen.

>Rock Man 9

Palette from RM9. As close to an official palette by Capcom as you can get. In practice, it's very similar to the Consumer palette.

A good game to test palettes on is Castlevania 1 level 2. The room is often garish purple bricks in most palettes. But Consumer renders them as red. The devs used a TV to test that gave red bricks.

Dude, for NES? Check out Super Dodge Ball. We had a lot of fun playing it when we were younger..... I suppose it might be a little different now but I recall having hours of fun against each other.

Warlords, Video Olympics.
Atari 2600 is the greatest console to plug and play.

Anyone have this?

I just finished my first 60 mile race ... ever. Qualified 7th, came in 4th. Feels like a victory though. I love this game

got lucky because of two yellows, both not caused by me. They pushed the projected mileage, so I could skip refueling.

Is an car a athlete?

Why do all of these consoles come with ac adapters that range from 9-13v when almost all of them run on 5v?
I have played around with voltages and many will work on as little as 7.5v input...or 5v to the emitter leg of a 7805 (obviously).
Why won't they run on 5v into the original adapter socket if they really run on 5v??

Add ons.

Supporting carts with additional hardware.

Everthing I said is just a guess btw.
>>
>>3234078
Because they're regulated, and most 5V regulators need >5V to work.
>>
>>3234078
Could you run any console off batteries if all you need is ~5V?

No
The Legend of Kage came out a year earlier(ignore the 1984 title in the video that's the year it was in development)

You didn't have to go left first. You go right first to learn that you have to go left.

lol no seriously though it was a real creative way to immediately make the non-linear mechanics clear.

I'm not talking about games developed in Europe (who the fuck cares?), I'm talking about all the games that are relevant on /vr/, the japanese games.

Grab any shareware CD from the 90s, extract any random game and you'll not only find some cute jokey readme from the programmers you'll likely see some additional cute shit that's been patched in automatically by some BBS along the way. Everybody was joking around with everybody else. Things were a lot simpler back then.
>>
>>3233257
not sure I get it desu, I kind of get the joke is about how you could just put more files on there, but is it something about floppies? Maybe all floppy format sizes are multiples of 360kb, so there's no reason they couldn't divide more of them across fewer, larger disks unless they just wanted to use more disks for some reason? I guess that's the other thing, did distributors purposely move games across more disks than was needed, and if so, why would they do so? It seems like you could use the "more disks=more shipping cost" argument to unfairly jack up your price, but ultimately I feel like that wouldn't work since other distributors would just move it on less disks at lower price.

Sorry to turn a dev humor thread into a big deconstruction of humor, I guess I'm just missing a crucial point of context to understanding the joke here.

Only played PC version.
Lvls always feel longish.
Backtracking for feathers, talismans and primagen keys is not too annoying.
Interesting enemy design, wish there were more dinosaurs to shoot at tho.
Lair of the Blind Ones is pretty hard on key placement, very frustrating if you dont know where to go.
I actually never finished the game, always got bored around Mantids Hive.
Nice assortment of weapons.
Razor Wind is coolest, wish it was available earlier.
Warblade is fine, but I think that having knife from Dinosaur Hunter as basic melee would be better than Talon design wise.
When scooped, shot doesnt hit when crosshair is, it always lands a bit to the upper left, kinda annoying.
All in all, I like it.
Might be very first FPS I played.
>>
I dunno man, how about you think by yourself and see if its good for you or not
>>
>>3232443
Was a bit too long for my tastes. I did manage to beat it, but got bored more than once, some of the levels didn't feel that great and there was too much backtracking for certain items. The biggest problem I think was that sometimes you just didn't have a clue about what to do next to progress.

Am I the only one who thinks Paperboy 2 is the best game of the whole 4th generation?

Any of you guys play Paperboy 2? What did you think of it?
10 posts and 2 images submitted.

It's about equivalent to real Arcade Paperboy. Maybe slightly better so about the same as "Gauntlet 4" on Genesis. If you like arcade games best it's no surprise you might draw that conclusion.
>>
it's a bad ass game. my sister rented it and the first one countless times growing up on the sega genesis. i kinda always wanted an endless neighborhood mode or something for it to go off ramps and hit people with newspapers.

>my sister rented it and the first one countless times growing up on the sega genesis
The Genesis versions rules. The NES and Super NES versions are good, but damn, the Genesis version kills it. Funny how no-one ever mentions the Genesis games that were superior to their SNES counterparts, like Paperboy 2.

>i kinda always wanted an endless neighborhood mode or something for it to go off ramps and hit people with newspapers
Someone should make a hack of that. I would play it.

So I had a question in the tech thread that died. My Saturn's memory resets every start up. New batteries didn't work. Tore Saturn apart. This is what I found. It appears that little cylinder has leaked. Anyone know how to clean/fix this?
22 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Think that's an oscillator. Probably just glue or something.
>>
Is this the new tech thread? I have a question too. I recently hooked up a 32x which hasn't been used in well over a decade and it turns on and runs games but the color is off (everything has a blue tint) and the video seems blurry as well as the sound being muffled. There is also a high pitched squeal coming from the unit itself which leads me to thing that it may be failed or failing capacitors.

Additionally I am using the aftermarket crossover cable which is supposed to provide power to the 32x but I have to use the ac adapter to get it to work. I am running this on a model 1 Genesis with a model 2 Sega CD attached and am getting my audio out of the Genesis headphone jack. Everything works perfectly without the 32x.

So should I go ahead and order some caps for it or is there anything else I should check first?
>>
>>3231778
Why not open it up and check if they're leaking?>>3231731
If it's a cap it just needs replacing, very easy to do. If it's an crystal like the other guy said it shouldn't be a problem to replace either. Look for the service manual online and find the part of there is no writing on the cylinder
