Wow, no oversized mobile games like doodle jump, angry birds, cut the rope and fruit ninja? That's all there is around except at the hipster burger place/arcade.
>>3237776
profit.
the big gimmicky shit can't be replicated at home or on your phone like Dankey Kong etc.

Went to the mall a few weeks ago and found that one of those kiddie ticket places had been gutted and replaced with a real arcade.
Feels good.
ITT: opinions that are unpopular, whether outside of /vr/ or in /vr/:
Unpopular on /vr/, popular in reality:
>The SNES was a top-3 all-time console
>Nintendo isn't Satan and there were good Nintendo games
>The Genesis was the best Sega console
>collectathons are fun
>spyro is better than crash
>MK64 is better than CTR and DKR for battle mode alone, even if the "normal"...

Mega Man 1 is piss easy? I just really suck, then...
What's the point of this area? Not that I have a problem with it, just why? I know you go here at the end, but through the tunnel to right, so why did either bother with a bridge, and a whole animation for it breaking and Conker falling? A relic from the old game design? It looks nice though.
I think its just there for the player to go "ohh"
>>3236872
It was most likely either cut content or just the set up to a joke where they build it up for the whole game and then deflate it in the final moments.
Foreshadowing. Much like how you can see all the other levels in the background from the top of the barn yard level.
What are your favorite 3D maze games?
The Windows 95 maze screensaver.
>>3235994
Wizardry, Megaten, Phantasy Star, Brandish, Daggerfall (fuck the mazes though seriously), Etrian Odyssey
I remember one crazy game where you had summons on cards and could waifu your elemental summons, who could die, permanently, and could be used and replaced like they were expendable, but also you could keep them alive and build up the relationship with them and evolve them and shit. The first one you got was a Sylph and she was kawaii af man
I have never found it since and still think it's a dream sometimes
what games show off blast processing at its finest?

Definitely not that.
In a thread on I think /v/ someone spoke highly of a visual novel called Yu-No that had a crazy sci-fi plot or something. So I decided to try playing it, so I looked up some info and apparently it is basically a porn game. Did I get trolled or does it have a good story? Like maybe they wanted to make a game with a good story but they needed to include porn for the sales. Or am I taking the first step down the deep, dark rabbit hole of "I play porn games for the story"?
Okay you have to understand that for a VN (virtual novel) to succeed in Japan especially during the 90s it almost had to have adult content because the fappers were the ones keeping the doors unlocked and the lights on, know what I mean? There were developers who really wanted to make their VNs good games and Yu-No is probably the best example of this. There's some sex stuff at the very beginning and then subsequent adult sequences are SO far separated that you will likely forget you're playing an "adult" game before you see another one. These sort of games...

You basically hit the nail on the head. It hooks the player with a bunch of sexy ladies and then you get drawn in to the interesting story. Eventually, the sex becomes an afterthought. It's also got a pretty neat gameplay system that more or less revolutionized the VN scene.
Jesus Christ, how clueless can people be?

Can I be first?
The only boxes I have left. Wish I would've kept the rest.

Are you proposing a cardboard collection thread, OP? I'm willing, I just want your intentions made clear first.

Sure why not. I dont want it turn into a smug collectors thread though.
Hey /vr/
Do any of you own the Virtual Boy? I know not many people talk about it here. I can't find a comfortable way to play the damn thing so I'm trying to make my own Lamp-O-Tron.
Any of you do any do it yourself stuff or have any ideas how I could go about making this?
http://www.planetvb.com/modules/workshop/?04
This seems to explain it but I suck so much at making shit I can't wrap my head around it.
>>3235389
Looks like a lamp desk with a clamp, and he just screwed in to the base of the Virtual Boy stand.
>>3235389
Shit, they should've released that as an upgrade.
Good luck, /vr/.
Oh it's that soccer thing. What time should I tune it for our match?
>>3234732
It's on now, 1-1 at the moment.
Nice, on to face /r9k/ in the semi-finals.
Just finished this trilogy and am now jacked as fuck for more twich sidescrolling action. Which of these three games should I get first to continue the hype?
>Strider (Genesis)
>Shadow of the Ninja (NES)
>Battletoads (NES)
>>3234231
Run Saber (SNES)
Short but fun imo
Ghosts n Goblins
ghouls n ghosts, but the arcade version
What draws you to the retro consoles?
Most games made nowadays are shitty and reliant on generic, boring gameplay.
>>3232925
360 won't be retro because the gameplay is fundamentally the same as all modern games. Maybe in 30 years when everything is VR any form of gaming on a 2D display will be "retro", but that'd be more from a technology standpoint than gameplay standpoint.
>>3232868
>What draws you to the retro consoles?
Arcade games. So pre 6th generation.
Can we talk about classic Warcraft lore? The movie is going to fail isn't it? I mean full blown flop.
As someone who'd first "real" PC game was Warcraft 2 and played that game everyday after school as soon as I saw that Medivh is suppose to be in his 20's in the movie and then heard the dubstep and comedy quips I lost any interest in seeing it.
>He still doesn't assume video game movies will be shit
There was a brief sweet spot there in the mid 2000s but that was it.
>>3232745
Doom?
>>3233112
I'm surprised how roundly the Doom movie was panned, it has fuck all to do with Doom but as an Aliens pastiche it's extremely entertaining flick with some great camp performances.
>needing anybody else but soldiers
>2005
Hey, /vr/. A family member recently gave me a huge CD-case filled with retro games (mostly shovelware unfortunately). A bunch of them are for Windows 98 and 95, which wont work on Windows 10.
Pic related, this is one of the games I want to play, but can't because it's only for Windows 98-95. Any way to get this running on like VMWare or something?
>Windows 10
I'm sorry
>>3232607
It wouldn't work when I had windows 7 either, so..
Install Windows 98 within dosbox
