i am also curious. is she connected to a chain to the ceiling or is the sprite just cut? Is she about to be chucked at the boney horse with an alien knight?

I always liked how the boss for this area sort of forced you to run a full dragoon party. This game was good and trying to get you to change team composition often

definitely love that as well, though i sort of dread endgame where its foolish not to use all ninjas/sages.
the midgit portions are strange too. i like them, but its odd when a game forces you to run away from everything for a span. i guess they want you to use thief and revel in his midgame buff.

Looks hideous, pallets are inconsistent, bosses are won by spamming rapidfire in their general direction. A complete newbie could level select to the final boss and stomp him.

The sprites are far too large, the actual game screen loses what little real-estate it has to the hud on the bottom.

At the time pre-rendered was a big deal but ultimately the game is dull.

Did Vectorman run over your dog in his pickup when you were a child?
>>

Yes.

In truth I just did not like a single thing about the game, and I love platformers.

There was a period in the 16 bit era where there were a slew of very anime inspired action games. Most of these weren't tied to a license, but captured the same feeling of those late 80s/early 90s OVAs.

Majyuuoh is one of them. Some people compare it to Resident Evil, but it reminds me more of Devilman. It's primarily a boss rush game with a few short stages between them, a lot of big setpeices (a stage where you're chased by a worm, a scene where a woman is beaten to death by horses, etc) and some little touches, like the ability to kill and eat fairies.

I'm going to post some other games kind of like this.

can someone explain

How come DMA developed lemmings, Psygnosis published it and somehow Team 17 holds rights to it.
>>
>>3078537
arn't they still around as Rockstar North or something?
>>
>>3078586
Psygnosis got bought up by Sony after falling on rough times i think?

What a terrible sequel to a truly great game. The original ActRaiser was a challenging and fun hybrid of action-platforming and sim sections that were pretty fun. I guess you could say the sim sections were a little shallow, but I think it's better that way so they don't overwhelm the action segments of the game. Plus, you still get to fight monsters as you grow your city, which is pretty cool.

ActRaiser 2 removed the sim aspect of the original game that made it so original and memorable. The difficulty is ratcheted up so high that even on Easy you'll die very quickly on the first couple levels, partly because of traps that do a ton of damage that are hard to avoid thanks to the terrible controls for jumping and flying. The first game was hard, but (save a couple cheap moments) fair, even with some slightly stiff controls in regards to sword swinging and jumping. In ActRaiser 2, it's difficult to figure out how you're supposed to control the Master/God while he's flying. They tried to expand the action parts by giving you a shield and letting you attack from different angles as well as hover, but it's not worth it considering the awful flight controls and the fact that you move much slower than in the original game, which makes it feel like a total slog.

At least the graphics are pretty nice. The music is beautiful and retains the epic and orchestral vibe the original had, although it (ironically) feels a little less actiony now. The numerous gameplay issues are a huge problem, though. How could they fuck up the sequel to ActRaiser so hard?

Also forgot to mention that there's a password system even though the original had saves, which is fucking stupid
>>
Simulation mode in the original was more of a grind than anything, there was no lose condition, you just keep killing imps and lighting old houses on fire and building better houses in their place.
>>
>>3078492

ActRaiser takes two things and does them okay. ActRaiser 2 takes one thing and does it damn well.

The developer's only mistake was trying to cash-in on the popularity of ActRaiser 1 by calling this a sequel. ActRasier 2 was clearly designed with a different audience in mind. It's nonetheless a solid game on its own merits.

Do you guys think the original 3D assets for the DKC trilogy still exist?

If they did we could potentially get a flawless HD remaster, which would be fucking amazing.

The assets were stored on DAT tapes. That's all I know.

But the games would still suck. Besides which, they could just recreate the levels using DKCR.

>Besides which, they could just recreate the levels using DKCR.

DKCR doesn't have anywhere near the aesthetic quality of the Rare trilogy.

How rare is this game? In all the time I've been searching for it (a month or two), I've never seen a single CIB copy show up on eBay, and only one loose disc copy. All the rest of the listings are for the various Japanese copies of the game.

Pretty much every other "rare" retro game, until you get into the uber rare games like Air Raid, always has at least one listing up on eBay, so I find it curious that this game has never shown up.

the rom isn't rare
>>
By Sega CD standards, it's uncommon (not rare or common). However it's a good game that most Sega CD owners want, and that makes in rare from a general sense.

You must not be looking too hard. The sold auctions show that there have been 3 or 4 sold in the last month.

So /vr/ I need some help.
My Dreamcast has problems reading some games, even tho they look just fine. I git like 20 games, of which my dreamcast is not possible to play 5, for example worms armageddon.
When I try to start the games, the console stays a while at the "Dreamcast Windows CE" Screen and than just goes into the dreamcast menu, like there was no game.
Is this fixable and if so, what can I do to repair it.

cmon /vr/ don't let me down on this

IIRC, something in the DC "dies" making it impossible to read games (this happened to my original console back in '04 or so).

Seems odd that it only does it to certain games, though.

Have a bump.
>>
Where does /vr/ get their DC games? Prices seem to be skyrocketing lately, I bought Third Strike a couple years ago for $30 and it's over $100 on eBay.

Is it possible to enjoy VP on an emulator? I keep feeling tempted to pay the Jew for a physical copy.

I remember one portion of the map had floating trees with invisible interiors. That's how sloppy this thing is.
>>

Yes. The character designs are shockingly bad. The running animation is atrocious. The production values for every cutscene after the first one are in the toilet.

Unlike Holy Magic Century (Aka Quest 64 in its bastardised American form), Aidyn Chronicles is a genuinely bad game. I'm amazed it got past Nintendo certification due to its tendency to crash and the fact the permadeath party thing is blatantly the result of a bug.

Holy Magic Century was just a bit obtuse and repetitive. Aidyn is pure, insulting shit. A shame because the writing is half-decent.

Did you try cleaning the contacts? Use a high percentage isopropyl alcohol on a qtip. If that doesn't work, try rubbing the contacts with a pencil eraser.
>>
>>3076659
Yes. I assume tiny traces inside get fucked up. Never bothered trying to look inside to fix it. It's one of the easiest systems to make repros for.
>>
>>3076738
i'm atually looking at buying this game, but the ad states several times the card does not work. I figure it's worth the risk for what he's asking.

>>3076773
But does that translate to an easy fix? I'm not great with a soldering iron, but I should be able to manage to a certain point if it's more than just cleaning the card's contacts.
