W-wow. This game both looks and sounds gorgeous. Should really have played this sooner.
It doesn't really hold your hand though. When is the right time to send your warriors to Valhalla? I suppose I'm first meant to fulfill their traits. There's a whole lot of stuff in the menus but is the game really quite simple or am I missing something big time?

It was awhile since I played it but I'm pretty sure I maxed the traits before sending anyone. If you want the true ending, you basically have to use a guide so leave it for the second playthrough.

Do yourself a gigantic favor and just use a FAQ to figure out the Valhalla-sending stuff, as well as how to get the good ending.
Are you playing on Hard Mode?
>>3059767
I would recommend against getting the best ending first. Unless OP knows for a fact he will only play it once. It's not just the actual ending that changes but also bosses and events so you're going to miss out on stuff by not doing the normal ending first.
What are some instances where the Genesis version of a game's music was superior to the SNES version's?
Actually both are pretty good but the Genesis version is still better

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hH60yEpHI7E
It's all subjective, but I prefer the harder, sharper sound of the Genesis. Some SNES music seems kind of flat and muffled.

The SNES version uses more diverse instrumentation, but the main melody sounds really dull.

Most of my top 10 games of all time can be considered "retro" as i haven't really latched on to too many newer games as my all time favorites. Thought making the list of 10 would be harder but i had a difficult time narrowing down the last 2 spots. I also could not arrange anything past number 1, so my list, in no order goes:
1. Everquest
Ocarina of time
Links awakening
Pokemon Red
Fallout 4
Day of the tentacle
Indiana jones and the fate of atlantis
Earthbound
Battlefield: 2142
honorable mentions to WoW, GTA Series, Gran...

Here you go. I made this for an earlier thread. The only other game I wanted to include is Super Columns, but this was strictly a 3x3 chart so I didn't have room.
I don't know if I could rank the games in any particular order, because I honestly distribute a pretty even amount of attention to everything in the chart. I guess my favorite game overall though is Zelda II.
>1. Everquest
>Earthbound
>Battlefield: 2142
well you sure did set the level for horrible taste high OP.

is this good or is this not good
No. It tries way too hard to be edgy. It's like a 14-year-old gothbaby's version of Zelda.

You're running outta zones OP.
I just imported Super Famicom all the way from Japan, and it's fully working. Any games I should buy for it? I'm thinking of getting the Shin Megami Tensei games on here, along with the spin-offs.

Do you know moon?
I made a SFC chart some time ago but i think i lost it.
Try with the two Kunio-kun non-sport games and Metal Max.
This is a must, especially considering the price of the US loose cart, you can get a complete copy of the japanese version for way less.
Hagane
Why are you not stocking up on sealed and rare videogames, when they will be worth millions. think of it. by the end of this century people who own mint condition sealed games will be incredibly rare.
Because I can't play it behind that seal. I collect for fun and nostalgia, not for profit.
Good luck with that, kid.
Someday that Coleco Chameleon "prototype" will be worth billions.
What is your favorite game that most Westerners wouldn't even go near? Any genre. Give me the weebiest game you still enjoy. I won't judge.
all of them
ALL of them?
>>3056846
>most weeb
The most weeb game would be some date sim game where the player has to know Japanese in order to play or enjoy.
I cant think of a really weeb game thats retro. I started getting into weeb stuff at a older age.
Why is it that some NES games look like shit with cringeworthy palette choices , while others look nearly 16-bit?
bad devs/good devs
>>3056742
It takes skill and experience to get the most out of old systems. That's a big reason why I love retro hardware so much.
For instance, the NES could only display in an 8x8 pixel block 4 colors, and the first one was always transparent. If you look at Mega Man's face in that picture, you'll see it has white, black, blue, and light blue; 4 colors, but really 5 colors because the transparent color must be present. To achieve this, the devs simply layered a few sprites on top of each other. This seems...

-The system had a long lifespan, so advancements were made in terms of NES game technology (like new mappers... I'm not knowledgeable about NES development so hopefully someone else can go into detail) and those interested in bettering their craft studied the works of others and improved.
-Game artists had different levels of skill. Some were probably good artists in general, game or otherwise, others were not as skilled. Some knew how to take advantage of a limited palette by making good color choices within the limits and how to make clear graphics out of pixels,...

Why do pro-PC posters perpetrate the myth that PC games during the 5th generation were smooth while 3D games on consoles at the same time (Playstation, N64, Saturn) were laggy 20 FPS affairs?
Here is a benchmark showing Quake's framerate on contemporary 1996 hardware. The Pentium 200 was the latest, greatest and most expensive CPU available at the time, and it can't even crack 45 FPS. Most people weren't using something like this. Pentium 75 (Quake's minimum specification) and in particular, the Pentium 90 were far more common.
It's pretty...

It ran pretty terribly on every accelerator except Voodoo though.
And the graphics were somewhat downgraded.
>>3051924
Because you're comparing entirely software renderers done on the CPU? The 3dfx voodoo was released in 1996 and finally brought good 3D graphics to the PC platform. In Feb 1997 GLQuake was released which ran on voodoo.
I've been thinking about getting Crash Bandicoot 2 for the PS1 after I finish Rayman. Should I do it?
Yeah sure.
Arguably the best one. If you didn't like the minigame stages from 3 anyway

Your taste is impeccable.
'Zup, guys. I'll be drawing for a couple of hours, so grab some snacks, get comfy, and drop some retro vidya requests.
Draw Atomic Robo Kid hanging out with Opa-Opa.

I'm not going to lie to you, I pretty much just want to see tits. Or something from Splatterhouse. Or both I guess. Or wait, that flying cat thing from the bonus level of Space Harrier.

Apart from subjective aesthetics, is there any reason to get a Playstation over a PS One?
>>3043935
with the ps mini you could make it on the go with the battery pack and the screen.
>>3043935
PSX has high quality sound output making it arguably one of the best cd players around.

2016 and this dumb fucking parrot shit is still going. Amazing.
Seen a few screenshots posted in another thread a few days ago and really want to do a replay now. Does war of the lions add anything? Are the mobile versions shit? Should I just stick with the original and emulator?
The game is a competent zelda clone, why do you ask?
>>3037230
Wait? What? I thought war of the lions was just a new skin with maybe a few extras tossed in, not really a zelda clone.
Asking because I'm wondering if I should drop the $20 on it for mobile or just emulate the original.
