This is a grey area for the board. The games are new but the hardware is old. If we in fact have any mods who disagree with this being here then that's their call but people have made a lot of cool stuff for retro hardware which we might like to share. So until if or when this thread gets deleted, post & discuss some of your favorite Retro Homebrew titles.

As you can see from the picture I posted in the OP, there's people still making some pretty impressive looking stuff for the Neo Geo. Of course I would be hard pressed to drop $500 on one of them because there's so many other things I could do with that money but the price isn't unfair considering what original Neo Geo games cost when new and adjusted for inflation.
This one is a Metal Slug "homage" I use quotation marks because it looks like they took a lot of assets from the original games unless they're very very good at just making their new visuals just invocative of the source material.

The same teams has also made some pretty decent looking shmups for the system and that Turrican type game which was released for this and Dreamcast. Yeah they do pretty good work for such a relatively limited audience.
I particularly enjoy it though when it's stuff for the weird systems. like that guy who made stuff for 32X. If someone could make a good port of Out-Run for the 32X I would be so on board.

There's no gray area if it runs on the original hardware. The rule is "on platforms launched in 1999", the release date of the game only matters where there's no clear platform (PC games).

While I think the pc engine itself is underrated, the valis series itself is overrated as fuck. The best game is the valis 1 remake and even that is merely okay

Do you collect complete-in-box games, /vr/?
Carts loose, CD games with case and manual. Saturn games, a stack of CD-Rs and my best handwriting.
There only retro game I have in box (other than PS1 and Dreamcast games) is Donkey Kong Country. Yard sale. Five bucks. Best I had was Super Mario RPG. Found it complete in box for two bucks at a pawn shop back in the early 2000s. Sold it when I moved to California and needed money.
Other than those, I would have had cases from buying new SNES games and such, but they're long gone.

Only complete I have are cd based games. Had a couple complete snes games (ff vi, mega man x) but sold them about a year ago. Have manuals for a lot of cartridge games.

Heh. Yeah, I did this too. What you are supposed to do is not go there. The game thows those enemies at you at that exit so you see how strong they are, then run away.
Instead I spent a while grinding.
None. I figured out the way that the game rewards stat ups around halfway through and I've never been able to get over my perfectionism enough to finish it since.
I don't even need to play it that way, it's not even a hard game, I just can't seem to deal.

I had one of those hyper realistic fever dreams after pulling off a three day marathon of gauntlet to 100% on n64.

I was propably half awake trying to get up or something but all of a sudden my sheets were the level with the graphics from the game and scary shit was coming out of the caves my mind projected onto the sheets. Then I hallucinated my friends asking me if I was ok in a weird english that made perfect sense but I couldn't actually say it myself. There was a part in my dream where my character had to press certain buttons or else he would puke, then I failed and puked in real life. Scary stuff.

Hey guys, I'm going to start a new ps1 JRPG today. Any suggestions on what to play next? Last 1 I played was Star Ocean Second Story and absolutely loved it. I'll list the ones in my collection I haven't played yet. Parasite Eve 1 and 2, Chrono Cross, Legend of Dragoon, FF VIII, FF IX, Xenogears, Lunar 1 and 2, Breath of Fire IV. Thanks for any suggestions.
Valkyrie Profile should be high on your list. It's easily in the list of top RPGs on the system.

Shadow Madness is the most underrated JRPG on the PS1 (yes, it's a JRPG despite beign American). It's not as good as SO2, but better than most of your list.

Love the ship designs, but Gaiden is the only game in the series I've played. Looks neat, but it was just another shmup. They all feel the same to me.
I have a Sega megadrive 2 that isn't working g great. I replaced all the cables for it but there is still a lot of noise and static (despite being RGB).
Any thoughts on what's wrong with it?

It does the same thing with an RCA composite cable as it does with the RGB. The games work and the picture appears but there is always a lot of noise over the images.

Are you just using a scart cable for rgb? Maybe the composite video signal is stuffed? It's used for both sync with rgb and composite video. Maybe caps or the frequency crystal?
I've had my PS1 for... 16 years now, I think, maybe more? I don't remember, but it's the model with the screen, as in the picture.
I didn't play it for a year, maybe 2, but I felt like buying a CD and burning Spyro 3 and Klonoa to play it on it (the PS1 has a modchip).
... So...
It doesnt read my burns (It reads Spyro 3 sometimes)
All my burned discs of yore cant be read well or freeze at some point, with the exception of Mega Man X4, which works, but the sound stream is iffy, the music stops for 1 or 2 seconds at random. Ditto with FMVs.
The problem I described with my X4 happens with my original copy of Spyro the Dragon as well.
... However, my copy of MGS (From the Essential Collection), works perfectly, once I get it to boot. It's in mint condition, the disc.
So... Is my reader dying? Any fix? Any recomendation?
