Played the PC RTS when I was a kid. Gave me the willies and, because I'll eternally suck at that genre, kicked the shit out of me.

What was the Sega equivalent to Nintendo Power? Did they have a magazine like it for the master system or the genesis? Also do you guys still read these magazines and use them for games?
I read through all of the issues of Sega Visions a couple of months ago. It was insane seeing them cover Master System, Genesis, Saturn, Game Gear, CD, 32X, and Pico in one of the later issues. Pic related is a from one of the first issues. Both are great games.
The sega equivalent of Nintendo Power was Nintendo Power, because sega kids would read it wishing they had the better system than what their parents bought them by mistake.

Mario was way more popular than Zelda in Japan, and Zelda 2 takes a lot from both Mario and Dragon Quest. Is it possible that Zelda 2 was an early attempt at making the series more popular with Japanese players?

not educational game but another great cross-country game is The Great American Cross-Country Road Race, a solid OutRun clone from Activision. It adds some interesting extra stuff to the mix, such as needing to refuel, weather conditions affecting the road, and avoiding police speed traps.

Is it worth going the extra mile to use a proper PC in a cabinet or is there no reason not to use a Pi setup?
I dunno, power consumption and boot time are the biggest deal breakers.
But I personally absolutely hate the boot screen of any computer. I'd much rather push power on and get the game loaded instantly. No "welcome to fucking windows" or raspberry pi matrix screen or retro pie menu or lakka gui.
The Pi can only do so much. Going beyond the 4th generation will bring you troubles. A PC is way more expensive but you'll really have no limits on what you can emulate.

Good music, but Simon's Quest is better.
I miss going to conventions and hamfests. And seeing The guy. you know the one. The guy who sold floppy disks of shareware for $5 a disk. and he'd have whole walls with little disk-racks loaded with copies of all the hits.
And, you know. He'd have boxes of cracked registered games, but those would be kept under the table and cost $7 a piece.
Those days are gone, but not forgotten.

4 years ago I bought 15,000 floppy disks from the last batch made in the UK before they stopped being produced. I really wanted to do a sort of at-cost piracy ring for Amiga games over the internet, but my modest attempts at getting it off the ground failed.
I ended up giving them all away to a local retro games group last year.

I enjoy that I can keep games. Even a modern FPS on a single floppy disk. Since I do a lot of work with older tech, it's nice having the options available.

So yeah, title pretty much says it all, MSX looks like an interesting system worth checking out, but most if not all of the games seem to be from the (Japan) region, so I'm guessing lots of them will be inaccessible to english only speaking people.
Is there some sort of "recommended" list of MSX games worth checking out that are english friendly? I know there are a few already fan-translated ones, but besides those really.
