Hey /vr/ first post here,
A few weeks ago I decided to code a tool to corrupt files on byte level to destroy them irriversibly. I ran it on an image and ended up with weird results. That made me interested in what would happen if I ran it on videos. Same result : The video got screwed and looked hilarious. After trying more images and videos I got a new idea : corrupting old nintendo ROMs. I ran the tool on multiple ROMs and ended up with hilarious results. If you are interested in seeing that you can find a link at the end of the post. Feel free to suggest any games you would like to see in a completely broken state. Pic related, one of the games I broke.

Why not just opening it in a hex editor?

I dont see enough reasons to do it anyway. I'd rather try to glitch the game without altering its rom data.

That picture looks like an extreme HD version of Frogger.

Don't have a hex editor. Also wanted to train my coding skills to include file I/O operations. Sure you can glitch games without altering the rom data but where is the fun in that.

Why is NOT RETRO the best game in the series?

Is there a difinitive list of the best SNES games? I'm trying to figure out what are considered the best and most important games on the console to see which direction I need to take my collection. Trying to stick to console exclusives, so no Street Fighter II.

So far on the list, I have:

Super Mario World
Legend of Zelda LttP
Super Metroid
FF2(4) and 3(6)
Kirby Superstar
Super Castlevania IV
Turtles in Time
Starfox
F-Zero
Mario Kart
Earthbound
Super Game Boy

What else?

Yoshi's Island
Mega Man X

I thought Dream Course was part of Superstar.

Also
Mario All Stars
Mario Paint.

Anyone ever play Far East of Eden: Manjimaru? I'd like to hear some opinions

It's apparently the best selling turbografx game of all time, and is one of the highest rated 16-bit RPGs. But it's been untranslated for years so few have played it

An anon here did play through most Tengai Makyou games, you might want to check the archives.

I personally played through Zero, a bit of IV and the non retro GBA game, so I can't tell you a lot about it besides what you already know.

A japanese friend told me that it was kinda like the PCE's own FFVII, that's all I can tell you.

I personally didn't like what I played outside of the GBA game which is actually a really solid and interesting game, Zero had great graphics and a fun cast, lots of content in terms of sidequests but the battle system and battles in general aren't really that hot, IV didn't manage to keep me interested for more than a hour so I dropped it.

The eorld is pretty big and expansive, but I wasnt a fan of the encounter rate. Its not Sailor Moon another Story levels of bad, but its up there. I liked Kabuki den a lot more because of the character interaction and it feels like it has the strongest story direction out of the pce games. Namida is also up there in that but its also particularly slow for a ps2 game. Along with Tma4, theyre laughably easy and you can steer through that one on autobattle with all of the special attacks and items turned off.

They are really pleasant for the worldbuilding and you really wont find anything like them, although pretty much every port of each game is censored in one way or another, save for the fighters.

I'm surprised no one has put out a translation of the game script for this. I've heard hacking a CD game is harder than a cartridge. Just a script dump would be nice.

Who knows some old horror games that are actually scary? In Illbleed you are afraid of the level itself, rather than the enemies in it, and it doesn't forget that horror stops being scary once it's predictable

What is /vr/´s opinion of this game?

>>
It's bad because there is only one way to play it and that is to go to the last island right away without fighting anything and then grap all the unprotected treasure.
>>
>>3194280
Game is great, just terrible filters.
>>
It can be beaten in under 10 seconds.

Why was the SNES backwards compatible with the NES?

It wasn't. Probably done to keep hardware costs within reason.

Dont you mean why wasnt it?

Because backwards compatibility is for the foolish goyim who doesn't think about making money.

>Wanna play Final Fantasy, Lufia, The 7th Saga, or Shin Megami Tensei?
>Don't have a SNES?
>Fuck you, you're getting Phantasy Star instead

So did people actually like this series back in the day, or is it just sour grapes due to the fact that the Genesis has no other RPG's?
97 posts and 9 images submitted.
>>
>>3188867
Look at the date in your picture and then look at the release date for any of those games on the SNES. There's your answer.

Also
>due to the fact that the Genesis has no other RPGs?
Beyond Oasis, Crusader of Centy, Warriors of the Eternal Sun, Arcus Odyssey, Fatal Labyrinth, Landstalker, Light Crusader, Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force, Shadowrun, Uncharted Waters, Sword of Vermillion, and (arguably) Ys III. It's not even close to the extensive SNES RPG library, yes, but also far from "no other RPG's".
>>
>>3188867
Phantasy Star IV alone is better than every SNES RPG.
>>
But there's SMT for the Mega CD.

A shopping mall in my area has a real Sega Rally machine. I've spent the past year or so figuring out its tricks almost every time I visit there. My current best championship time is 3:23:63, done using a manual Celica. Any other Sega Rally drivers here? How do I compare?

You're no Michael Schumacher.
A real cab? Nice, I've only played emulated version.
