Dude's a chinless vampire who likes to push blocks a lot. He's all angry at his dad because he got like wings first and he didn't and shit. Then they ran out of budget and couldn't finish the game the end.

Did you play the games starting with blood omen? If not, then you fucked up. If so, then you're just dense.

I thought it was already widely considered to be one of the best games on the SNES. Nobody suggested otherwise.

I think he was making a joke.

I've mostly played JRPGs my whole life but these days I don't have the time for them since they're so long, and I increasingly feel like I'm surrounded by kids in the fandom. Fighters seem to have a more diverse and lively community. I've always been drawn by the colorful characters and competitive aspect of fighting games but every time I've tried to get good at one I've become discouraged.

I'm asking here because /v/ is shit and I'm mostly interested in retro fighters.

So for fans, which fighting game was your gateway...

>So for fans, which fighting game was your gateway drug?

Yie-Ar Kung Fu. Then Street Fighter II: The World Warrior sealed the deal.

>What kind of experiences drew you into the scene?

What scene? arcades? It was just normal to hang out there with friends and play vidya, fighters included.

The only tip is to keep playing until you become good.
Since you're only starting now, I guess you could read up some tips on shoryuken.com, learn things from youtube or whatever. It's better...

Virtua Fighter 2 was my first, then Tekken 3, SF3 on the DC and on from there (not retro after that). Keep practicing and check out local tournaments or clubs, there's probably at least a few near you - always best to practice with real players. It's also a good way to see what's popular, what's still being played, how to improve, which characters and fighting styles are popular, etc.

Start with Street Fighter II. Almost any version. Super Street Fighter II Turbo if I had to recommend one since it's the most played version of the original. Learn the basics there. Learn about hit levels and throw ranges and get blocking properly/successfully. Practice until you're decently familiar with how shit works then look for people to play with.

Move on to Ultra Street Fighter IV after that. Don't neglect Street Fighter Alpha 3 or Street Fighter III 3rd Strike either. And play Street...

This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!

>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.

I don't have a PVM so yeah. Thanks for the tip anyway.

No my main concern is getting Retroarch Wii to not fuck up with the core configs. I swear, Retroarch Wii is so shitty I should just use dedicated emulators instead. And yeah I'm running 480p so I'll give that a shot.

How does /vr/ feel about old eroge and/or dating simulators?

Here you can see one of the more famous ones, original White Album written by Harada Udaru.

Yu-No is considered the gold standard as a game. Plenty of us have nostalgia for like True Love or Fatal Relation or even Dragon Knight and other early English translations but most "dating sims" actually fall pretty short of being "games". VNs have their own particular appeal.

it's a really sad genre of game to play. like really really sad.

Many 3.5" floppies of old games have been corrupted by magnetic entropy and are no longer able to install their game.

Are these discs fucked forever or can you rewrite them with floppy images of the game?

How do you get good at shmups? I suck and die all the time.

Are you sposed to watch your ship more than what's going on above, so you can avoid shots? Is it just level memorization? Are there any tricks or tactics? Is it better to start with an easy game then get into harder games? What even is an easy shmup?

Tricks, memorizing patterns, etc... Like 2D fighters, shooters kind of shrunk down into their niche fan base. So no more fun shooters you can play just for the fun of it. Now I'd guess 99% percent of players couldn't advance past the first level of a modern shooter without hitting the bomb button every few seconds.
>>
You'll get better the more you play, just like anything else. No different than starting any other genre you're not familiar with/good at.
Well, except that shmups require a hell of a lot of focus. A second of carelessness is all it takes to die in intense situations. And if you're playing R-Type, you're going to pull your hair out when that happens near the end of the level or at a boss. Learn enemy patterns, learn the levels, and you won't have too much trouble.

Your reaction time in vidya will get a lot faster, that's always a plus. Good luck.
