>First PS1 game you ever played?
>Absolute favorite game?
>That obscure game you love but doesn't get enough love on the internet?
>Currently playing?
Just finished Crash 1-3 and CTR, they were a bit on the easy side. CTR was the first thing I played on the PS1, 3D grafx blew my mind into smithereens.
>Twisted Metal (actually Destruction Derby first, but both the same day)
>Resident Evil 2, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy 7
>Runabout 2, Blade Arts, Gungage
>Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve
Crash 2.
Crash 2, RE 2 and 3, FFIX, Wipeout 2097/XL, Tekken 3.
Colony Wars, not really obscure I guess.
Resident Evil 2 and 3...again...for the 500th time.

>Colony Wars, not really obscure I guess.
to be fair, It took me a month to find the name of pic related, based of of nothing but me remembering playing the first level when i was six.
Other than the fact that the masses are retarded, why is this game considered terrible? It is literally one of my favorite games ever. This is one of the few gaijin developed RPGs that was ported to several Japanese platforms (SFC, Marty, X68K). I understand the translation is shit, but it's nothing that makes the game unplayable. It had beautiful graphics for its time. The music is wonderful, haunting at times, and immersive. Kemco's 'remix' gave it that Shadowgate/Uninvited horror excitement factor. One review in particular claimed this game is "only for the patient". Please explain to me why you hate it, sperglords of /vr/.

This board only listens to YouTubers, they won't touch this game with a ten foot pole because Joey Fagface said it sucks.
>>3183160
Way to prove you have shit taste. Oh wait, this is an anime board. Of course you have no clue about what doesn't suck.
Fact - This game is way better than Earthbound.
How would /vr/ make Sonic 4 in the 90s as a sequel to 3&K?
Would it be on Saturn? What levels would there have been? Characters? Story?
No Robotnik. Sonic will have to train at the sonic academy for a long time and then face his arch rival on the Sega Dreamcast. Coldsteel the Hedgehog
>>3182293
psst..nothing personnel kid..
I would introduce a new wacky friend which is featured prominently in half the game while Sonic himself gets sidelined.
What PS1 games CAN'T I play on PSP?
I'll also accept games that are technically playable, but have a bad experience.
So far I've got:
Ape Escape
Alien: Resurrection
Gran Turismo 2 (Can't get analog controls working)
>>3182124
I still have trouble playing Dino Crisis to this day. I either get random crashes on older firmware, an unusable shotgun (Crashes the game), or screwed up entities rendered wrong such as things that render through the background.
Interestingly enough, the last issue occurs with some other capcom games when emulated. Onimusha has that same issue on PS2 emulation.
>>3182124
Valkyrie Profile.
>>3182152
Lenneth exists though.
so who thought this was a good idea?
Nintendo
Gunpei Yokoi.
You guys want to hear a joke?N64 emulation.
>>3181806
It's actually ok for early games. Gets hairy with later games though.
>>3181806
Think of all the games you're missing out on: Mario, the list goes on...
Wanna hear another one?Blast processing.
What did you think of Ninja Gaiden
One of the best games ever made.. the first one at least on the NES
>>3181558
You're gonna hate me, but I only liked the first 3D Ninja Gaiden on Xbox. The NES games just felt like generic platformers of the time.
>in 1993 this was the best platform for computer
L-O-L
wow i want to be the guy ripped off this game
Bitch please.
>>3179574
Me, although I still played the shit out of Doom 1 and 2 as well.
>being a mono-genre fag
>the Sega Saturn was great at 2D!
>play symphony of the night on it
Yeahhh nah. Playstation version shits on it apart from no Maria.
*yawn*
The game was developed for the PS2 and it actually uses a lot of polygons to make the graphics. Yes, even if the game looks 3D, it was programmed as a 3D game with flat textured polygons. (there's also some visible ones like the coffin on the save room, for example).
The Saturn port was made from the PS1 version, it's not that they both were being developed at the same time. The port was made by a small team within Konami, not the same dev team from the PS1 version.
Compare virtually any other multiplat, especially ports from arcade to console, and 99% of the time it will be better on Saturn.
>it's another thread bitching about Castlevania
>>3178508
Are you drunk?
post games you think are overrated beyond belief or don't live up to the hype
pic related
Metal gear solid
I have only one save and he keeps one shotting me with his summons, am I better off restarting the game? Close I can get is kill two of his minions with lighting sword
>>3177492
You should have learned to keep back up saves
>>3177516
I though I didn't need it, I didn't need it for 6,7 or 9 or even Chrono Trigger for that matter
>using Agrias
>not using based Mustadio
>not using oracles with life drain to melt the boss
It's like you don't even want to slay demons
How is the PSP port for this game? Are we allowed to talk about PSP ports here?
>>3177346
Plays more like FFT than the original.
More equipment slots, and not limited to 4 slots total for weapons, gear and items.
Items are just a standard item pool like in FFT or a traditional JRPG.
You need class marks to use a class, so you can't just have like 10 terror knights unless you have 10 terror knight marks to do so.
Then theres a different translation which is kind of a take it or leave it thing, some are going to hate it, some will prefer it.
I dunno if it's better or worse, but it's the same game with a bit of nice changes, and some less nice changes.
>>3177357
Cheers m8, I was just curious because I already know to avoid the PSP port of FFT.
ehhh, sometimes I prefer the simplicity of the SNES version
they added a lot of stuff but the game felt like a mixed bag imo
the biggest improvement the psp version made was letting the player run from battles or completely avoid them
We discuss pre PPC Aplle computer gaming in this thread.
I already know about PPC mac gaming (it sucks liquid shit of birds cloaca) so don't talk about that
What is the difference between the Mac series and the Apple series in terms of gaming?
Which one was B&W?
Which one was colour?
Which one had more games?
Which one cost more?
Which had better gfx?
Which had better audio?
Did either use any controller other than keyboard?
Which one was fanless for less noise?
Were pre PPC apple systems closer to 4th gen gaming like the Amiga or closer to 3rd gen gaming like the C64?
How does the retro mac gaming compare to Euro computers like Acorn Archimedes and Amstrad CPC?
How does the retro mac gaming compare to Jap computers like MSX, and FM Towns?
How does the retro mac gaming compare to Merchant computers like MSDOS 486 and IBM PC/AT?
What kind of game genres predominated on Apple machines?
What type of person/personality played games on applel? E.G. Wii was popular in retirement homes, PS3 was enjoied by fans of Japanimation, the Xbox360 was the dudbro platform.
If nintendo=mario, sega=sonic, NEC=bonk;
Who was the mascot of apple gamine?
What was the slogan for apple machines? e.g. "nintendo is what genesisn't" "to be this good takes ages" "don't play a dodo, play 3DO"
If
Nintendo=Nintenyearold
Sega=Segay
Sony=Sonygger
NEC=NECbeard
SNK=essen-cuck
3DO=Matsushithead
Atari=Tardies
Coleco=Leathermen
Xbox=boners
etc etc etc
What are Apple computer gaming enthusiasts called?
Throwing in many many questions, using underage discussion points like how some other underages call other "enthusiasts" and hoping for discussion/replies.. please go back to /v/ or some other kindergarten.
I would actually say that Apple/Mac gaming was superior to Intel/IBM PC gaming up until a certain year.
Perhaps '90 or '91 is when PC surpassed Mac in terms of gaming. And this is if you don't mind the dank monochrome games on Mac.
Which year do you guys think PC gaming eclipsed Mac/Apple gaming?
I know that PC equalized to Amiga in 92 and surpassed Amiga in 93.
Mac gaming was always lesser quality and quantity than Eurocomps let alone Nipcomps, to say nothing of consoles.
>>3170362
I had a Mac growing up, or it was my mom's, in the early '90s. It was a Performa model, that was one of the very first computers with a CD-ROM drive. There were very few Mac games back then, and there were even less Mac-only games or ones that came out on the platform first. The few that I can think of are the original MacVenture games such as Shadowgate, Uninvited, and Deja Vu I and II. Also there was the Cyan titles like Myst and the earlier ones. Spelunx and Cosmic Osmo were like Myst from what I can remember, but were mostly black and white graphics and they didn't really have a way to "beat" them; it was just about messing around and wandering around and discovering things. Also there were vaguely educational in nature. There was another game before that, Manhole, but that one was intended for young children if I remember correctly. It was still a bit similar to Myst though, as in it was made of a bunch of static screens that you wander between and the game was created with Hypercard. Of course it didn't have Quicktimes videos like Myst did though.
Also, I had that LucasArts Volume I adventure game pack for Macintosh CD which was pretty awesome, but that was ported over from the PC of course. What was pretty cool is that in Day of the Tentacle, there still was the hidden game-within-a-game of Maniac Mansion, same as the PC version. But what was crazy about it is that when porting it over, which I think was done almost if not entirely by one guy, he had to write his own DOS emulator for Macintosh just to get Maniac Mansion to run on the old computer that Bernard repeatedly has to use, just like with the PC port. Must've been a pretty smart and devoted programmer to have done that. I would have figured that most anyone else wouldn't have bothered trying to get Maniac Mansion to work as it was just basically an Easter egg in the game.
We need to give this game some love. Anyone else have been emotionally invested with this game?
>>3165897
Love the soundtrack. Sorta hate how confusing it gets towards the end with the sun-stone-shrine full of existing characters, the dark Ark outta nowhere and the bittersweet ending.
Terranigma is one of my favorite games ever. Some people think it loses its charm after you resurrect humans, but that's one of my favorite parts.
>>3166006
>the dark Ark outta nowhere
You mean Light Ark? I thought that was foreshadowed well enough. As soon as you find the princess and Storkholm, and other people who look and act like the townsfolk from Crysta, it becomes pretty obvious that there must be another Ark somewhere in the surface world. I was more surprised by his role than by his existence. The first time I played, I assumed he would be one of the bad guys.
game loses steam sadly
it was so unique and good
A Dave and Busters is opening up near me. Should I be excited? What are some of the retro arcade games they have?
>>3164368
Eh, they mostly have ticket games and shit like Guitar Hero Arcade there now. There's a reason why strictly gaming arcades died out; they just aren't popular anymore.
Cedar Point's arcade is pretty dope tho, shouts out to /vr/ct
Last I checked in one a few years back they didn't have anything retro.
Had the later House of the Dead and Time Crisis though. Were the highlights.
The one in Palisades plaza had a large area just for Battletech Firestorm Pods. Was pretty fucking neat. Think it's gone now.
That place hasn't had retro games for awhile though.
