How do people input special moves in emulated fighting games without using a joystick?

I've been having a hard time making anything besides a Sonic Boom in Street Fighter II without breaking my keyboard.

Sincerely, i prefer keyboard more than joystick to perform combos on fighting games.

Its a question of costume, in the course of time you gonna can make hard combos

well, OP, if you're playing the Turbo versions good fucking luck. They are way harder to execute with a controller, arcade stick or keyboard. do it faster

I bet you can execute it if you play SFAlpha 3

Here's a What If which includes two Points of Departure:

1. Satoshi Tajiri invents the idea for Pokemon much earlier, in 1980 instead of 1990.

2. Engineers / Technicians at Nintendo make several breakthroughs in electronic technology, making the NES console a bit more advanced than in our timeline.

While the console is released on the same date (1983 in Japan and 1985 in USA), it is more advances, being a 16 bit machine instead of 8 bit.

Furthermore, it has better Save/Load features (similar to Playstation's Memory Card). The console also can receive input from two cartridges at once.

In 1986 Nintendo releases Pokemon Red and Blue versions for the NES.

The ability to insert two game cartridges into the console allows players to trade Pokemon with each other.

What are the effects of these changes?

Have any of you played NES Remix? Is the 3DS version any good at all? Are the remixes fun or is it a cash grab?

I have them on Wii U. Pretty fun but I ended up putting it down pretty quickly.

I think I'd have liked it more on a mobile system, the structure of the game being basically a collection of micro challenges lends itself really well for that. It would be tons of fun to play during the small waits you end up having throughout the day.

Overall Id recommend it, assuming it's the same as the console version. Just know that it's probably not something you'll play a ton when you're just hanging around the house or something, it's not really that kind of game.
>>
>>3179707
I've played the 3DS version.

Most of the "challenges" are bite sized parts of the games. Kind of like a tutorial of sorts. I think it's best for people who haven't played the games already.

The actual remixed challenges are pretty fun, but they are a small portion of the game, unfortunately.
>>
>>3179707
Not enough remix challenges, but the game is alright. Some games like Super Mario Bros. have challenges from throughout the entire game, but others like Punch-Out only go up to like Bald Bull or Excitebike only using the first two or three courses.

The 3DS version doesn't have all the games from the Wii U versions such as Wario's Woods, Clu Clu Land, Ice Climbers, or NES Open Tournament Golf, but it does have online leaderboards with replays and the Japanese version of the game which has a few minor differences. Also, the first one on Wii U is a lot stricter on the requirements for getting rainbow stars on some challenges.

I work on industrial machinery alone all day, I live in the woods with only a 2yr old subhuman for company the majority of the time. The internet is one of my only resources for adult conversation and is full of penises.

Please Recommend me some relaxing old games with good character or environment interaction worth buying. I have Sega 16bit+, Nintendo 16bit+, 3DO and PS consoles GG and GBC handhelds.

If it had slightly more replayability (a few more characters or ability trees or equipment options to experiment with) this would be the GOAT rpg.

Prove me wrong oh wait you fucking can't
22 posts and 2 images submitted.

It already is the GOAT rpg.

I've played and beaten most of the /vr/ FF games, DW/DQ games, mana, chrono trigger, and I still find this one the most replayable by far.
>>
>>3179264
eh, I actually agree with OP. Only having 5 characters with so few attacking options kind of makes it too repetitive to play again.

Atmosphere and enemy design and everything was pretty good though. I like ff6 better honestly

A piercing doubt has been tormenting me along these last years: which was the last TOTALLY 2D videogame developed for console?

Background and characters have to be sprites. Special effects don't count.

do you include handhelds, or must they be living room systems?

I have a 40 inch LED TV and playing old games on it looks like shit. I bought a cheap upscaler (the one in pic related) and it didn't even do anything to help it. I'm not looking to spend $400 on a Framemeister and I don't know anything about hardware modding. Is there a cheaper upscaler out there that makes composite look alright? I mean I know it'll still look shitty but I mean tolerable. Maybe something that adds scanlines?

Hey /vr/

Sorry if request threads are frowned upon but I've been looking for this game for years.

Basically, it was a typical 'bounce the ball game' knocking against blocks and shit. But if I recall correctly, you were in some sort of control of the ball. Independant of any sort of platform to knock it against.

I remember even selecting which level you wanted to go into meant you had to navigate with the ball, sometimes even requiring you to beat puzzles before you could unlock other sections.

It's a pretty old game and I'm wondering if anyone here remembers it. I remember loving it.

What are some good ports of retro games to non-retro systems? Specifically looking for PS2 since I'm trying to pad out my collection but any system is fine.

pic related is a good example, it has both games, is practically identical to the originals, and is dirt cheap to boot.

What went wrong with NEC?
At the end of the 80s they had everything ready to dominate the video game markets but then they just made one poor decision after the other to squander everything.

SuperGrafx was where it all went wrong. Instead of letting the PC Engine live on into the mid '90s, they should've scrapped it and given the SG a better processor and moved onto that.

Another fuck-up was not designing the PC-FX to handle polygons.

I think the PC-FX could have handled 3D hardware via upgrades. It has a large ultimately unused expansion slot.
The PC-98/IBM expansion card version of the PC-FX also had 3D capabilities the standalone version lacked.
NEC also had technology like PowerVR that would have been suited for the purpose.

If they had launched it in 1992 it could have gotten a decent market share and then fend off newcomers with expansions.

You talk about them like they went the way of Sega. They were a computer manufacturer first and foremost, so they just went back to that when the gaming branch failed.

I would like to play some P&C games again, Deponia didnt quite made it for me and Simon the Sorcerer Series dies with Simon 3D.

GoG has a sale, is Fate of Atlantis worth it? Indiana Jones games in general, I remember playing Tower of Babel as a kid
And I also remember liking Broken Sword, but it has 5 games right now, which are good?
>>
>>3180954
Fate of Atlantis was one of the best licensed games in history, it plays like a real Indy 4 and has three branching paths (wits, fists, team) which allows for some replay value.
If you want to get back into point-and-click, I'd highly suggest the Sam and Max Telltale games (seasons 2 and 3 are the best).
Broken Age is also pretty good.
Older games sometimes suffer from a problem of being built around 1-900 hint-lines that no longer exist, while newer games often feel way too easy because people are conditioned to look up walkthroughs whenever they are stuck, but there are a few games which manage to straddle the line.
