Gorgeous. A hundred million times better than the western cover.

I like this thread. It is a good thread.

That it is.

Nice, I didn't know this game was released in Japan. Great cover design.

Did the cartoon even air over there? Also, that "bad to the bone" art seems like it was taken off a T-shirt.
I love the Japanese Sonic art.

>The most famous hedgehog in the world
Why is that in English? Could the average Japanese kid actually read that?
>>2860034
I always assumed its for style.
Sorta like how some people have those french posters in their house even though they don't speak a word of it. Just to add some sort of style to their decor.
What does confuse me though is sometimes the endings of japanese games are in english. What was the purpose of that?

God I love how they integrated that cover into the sequels.
Just amazing how they saw the moon runes and decided to use that as the villains name.

Sonic was always meant to be a westaboo character, symbolizing everything that was cool in the US. Did you read the motivational text below? It was also used in the sequel, while the other games (except S3) came with their own text.
I find the Sonic CD one to be the most therapeutic, but S&K doesn't mess around.

Saving rom space. English has fewer characters.

I got it, but that still blows my mind. Why have I never heard of this before?
My favorite Double Dragon cover.

Well I'm not a /vr/ regular I guess, but I'm still surprised I've never heard of that before.

Big gallery of assorted game scans. Might be some interesting stuff there, haven't looked through it all

I love when games use clay models in cover art. very cute.
Maybe you guys will know, but I remember this site with a bunch of fake covers for retro games made by a variety of artist. It was like an art project. Anyone have the link?

Beautiful, that bug tho.

Strangest Telenet game that's not their own (Compile made it) and not even published by Nihon Telenet. I wonder how it played using their proprietary The Links online network.

Genius of the logo is turning "ro" into an O, not a square, because Spyro (and Ripto I guess) sticks out like a sore thumb from the other dragons. It's an square-peg metaphor.

I have always owned USA versions of Sonic 1, 2 an 3. But I loved the Japanese covers so much I re-bought the Japanese versions just to look great on my shelf.
Worth it, the manuals are full color and full of Japanese character art.

I don't think the JP S&K cover art is nearly as good as the US one.
Turrican - Tekkaman Blade Edition
Thumbs up for this thread, OP

love MUSHA's Japanese cover
A lot of Japanese Mega Drive games have great covers, not I think about it
>>2861168
Can everyone post their Japanese covers/ads/inserts that use clay models? They're so beautiful
>>2863329
Japanese artists the best in the world?
>>2860034
No, which is why the title is written in Japanese as well you blind bastard.
