I've only played SaGa 1-3 (and only liked 1 & 2)

What other SaGa game would I actually enjoy? I've played my share of RPGs, and would count FFL among my top 5. Are the rest in the series anything like 1 & 2? So broken you almost can't play the game 'right?'

Unlimited SaGa on the PS2, the game that apparently no one understands how to play.
>>
>>2924315

Everything that follows the original trilogy is very diverse. The games keep tacking on new features like combo attacks, tech sparking and other things that have long since become SaGa staples. The learning curve can still be pretty steep, even if you've already played through SaGa 1 - 3.

Luckily, Romancing SaGa and SaGa Frontier have a lot in common, mechanically speaking. If you can get a grip on the gameplay and basic plot progression, you should be able to jump right in and play those games in whatever order you prefer.

Unlimited Saga and the PS2 remake of Romancing SaGa is where the mechanics start to get overly dense again.

>Unlimited SaGa on the PS2, the game that apparently no one understands how to play.

From my experience, it's just a too-faithful recreation of pen-and-paper rules. Your characters are even represented as game tokens that are moved around grid maps. If you spent a lot of time playing D&D growing up, it may not seem as confusing. I do understand the basic gameplay mechanics, although I can't say I understand exactly how things like panel growth are determined. A lot of that seems to be based entirely on luck.

I like Unlimited Saga, but once you do actually understand it it's a bit too easy!

Saga Frontier ironically has some of the best difficulty in the series if you try to speedrun it or finish at a low power level, it's probably my favorite! (ironic because it's probably considered the best entry title for the series)

so play that one OP

play SaGa Frontier, which might be my favorite jRPG

Ok so I'm stuck on Baramos. I have the feeling I'm not supposed to fight him yet because he kicks my ass every time but I don't know where else to go. I have the sphere of light but it doesn't really work anywhere. Any hints on what to do?

If you can fight Baramos, then that's what you do.

What retro vidya has the best feeling character movement controls x camera fluidity/function akin to more modern 3D vidya? Like how the gameplay in pic related's series gradually improved so far as how great controlling your character and the camera felt as it went on. Are there any retro games that feel modern in this sense?

MGS doesn't feel modern to me.

Me too. It's the perfect blend of 2D and 3D. I can't stand people finding it unintuitive.

Uh, is your PS1 modded, or do you have a swap disc? You can't otherwise boot burned discs on a PS1.

So does anyone else use this? I just got a Raspberry Pi 2 and loaded the newest Retro Pie onto it. I can't seem to get it to make the folders for ROMs on the USB again, and the first time I got it to it won't show me I have ROMs on it.

Help for an anon?

A noble anon here recommended Lakka in a previous thread so I gave it a try and it works perfectly. Even though I'm using the PC Widnows version (live USB) they mention the Retropie too. Maybe you should look into it.
>>
>>2933886
Thanks, anon. I'll see if Lakka works and remove the thread if it does.
>>
I may give it another try but Retropie is a fucking mess. The whole frontend for a frontend thing is a massive waste of time and resources. Just give me an Arm7 build of Retroarch goddammit.

Hey does anyone know where I can find the maps that came with A Link to the Past? I can find the overworld map but I can't find the dungeon maps.

I just wanted to say that I'm so glad my grandmother had that map laminated when I was a kid. I still have that thing, and in perfect shape. Being laminated probably ruins its value, but it's not like I'm going to get rid of it, anyway.

>implying I'm making political statements

Given the name of the game I expected to be a play on typical populist dictators, banana republic and all

However the game gets considerably easier once you became a totalitarian, anti-socialist and sweatshop supporter on the island
>>
>>2931554
wait... maybe I am not understanding the terminology. dictators are all totalitiarian, aren't they? I didn't think they had to be socialist, though, nor had any particular ideology against sweatshops. I thought dictatorship was a description of how legal power is distributed, and had nothing to do with the economic structure.

so, what disappointed you?

Does it render the existence of the PS1 pointless. Pretty much uses the same controller as well as compatibility with PS1 memory cards.

>>
There are a few PS1 games that don't work properly on a PS2, but most of them work fine. I don't know where you might find a definitive list of PS1 games that aren't totally compatible, though.

Also, for some reason, my third-party PS1 memory cards work just fine on my US PS2, but my JP PS2 won't recognize them at all. I thought that was kind of weird.
>>
Some games aren't compatible, and some produce graphical glithes or freeze at certain points that may not be crucial (e.g. menu freezes)

So no, the PS2 doesn't make the PS1 obsolete. Best bet is to pick up a used PSOne somewhere, or just emulate. PS1s are dirt cheap these days.
>>
>>2934015
To my knowledge yes. I have never had a single issue playing a PS1 game on a PS2.
In fact when my first PS2 crapped out, it was reduced to only being able to play CDs and PS1 games.

Let's say theoretically, I wanted to buy a neo geo.

Tell me absolutely everything I would need to know about the console itself, the games, controllers, etc...

Because that's a shitload of money to spend on a toy.

Step 1: Avoid the AES completely
Step 2: Buy a Neo-Geo CD, or a consolized MVS
Step 3: Buy a MVS Multi-cart

You get access to almost the entire library of Neo-Geo for less than the price of an AES Metal Slug.
>>
>>2920497

Don't buy one. Spend it on a hooker instead.

honestly if you've got that attitude (not saying its a bad thing there's just going to be alot of moments where you're going to have to fork out money whichever way you go) I would just emulate. But if not do what this guy >>2920502 said (although I would stay away from the NGCD)

So, it is possible to overclock your megadrive cpu through means of a popular domestic mod. Why weren't they shipped already overclocked by default or at least given the option for a developer to do it through a special chip or whatever?
14 posts and 2 images submitted.

You can overclock a lot of chips. The reason thing are clocked at a lower speed is because overclocking has its price.
>>
>>2936246
Can't think that many games would have really needed or taken advantage of it
>>
>>2936271
So the reason was cost cutting?
