Reviews say it's pretty good. The dev team made conversions of the games that take slight advantage of the 3d, and it has some exclusive games that aren't on the eshop.

They're fantastic ports. Any game that M2 has ported to 3DS has become the only way I play it now.
Hey /vr/, back when I was young back in the early 2000's I have very vague memories of a 2d platformer where I'm pretty sure you played as a blue guy/martian with a ray gun. Theres not much else I can remember. Any ideas?

I'm looking for an old game similar to Dark Souls. Character customization, classes, a vast world I'm free to explore from the beginning, numerous weapons and powerups, upgrade system, friendly npc interactivity.

You can find some of those elements spread throughout various retro games, but none hit all the notes Dark Souls does. That's why it became such a huge hit.
Go play King's Field and Elder Scrolls games and then look for something else that scratches the itches they don't.

It takes too long to buy stuff and to add onto the problem, when you die - you lose all your hearts and you have to start all over again. Doing this doesn't add to any of the games' difficulty or challenge, it just makes us have to do more of the same monotonous stuff over again, and it's not fun - it's boring.
What charts, graphics, or data have you found that's helpful to understanding something about retrogaming better?

Just bought this on the steam sale, wat am i in for
pretty disappointing level design.
It sucks as a traditional Sonic Game.
But if you go for the good ending using the "find Metal Sonic Projection and Roboticizer in the Past" route, you'll be in for a C+ exploration based platformer with Sonic physics.

So, can you fix gamepads or is it best to just toss em when they begin to get faulty?
Example, I currently have a logitech gamepad that has served me well for a long time, but just recently the up button on the D pad doesn't work right, if I press it with the same force I do any of the others it doesn't work and I really have to jam it down to get it to respond.....what's up with that? Fixable or just throw it out?

Easy fix. Open and clean most likely.
Personally I usually only fix rare or original system controllers.
Things like racing wheels, fishing rods, fight sticks, original or refresh controllers (example the Duke for Xbox and S model) and as I said rare like Steel Battalion, are all controllers I will open to refurbish if broken.
Controllers like that logitech or Nyko airflow no. I would never myself open them as they are cheap to start and not worth the time..
Aside from joysticks, controllers for old systems are pretty rugged and hard to really break in any permanent way. The main problem you'll usually see with them is the rubber membrane under the buttons start to wear down and they become less responsive over time.
If you have a problem with your controller you can always just give it a thorough cleaning. Disassemble the controller and throw the shell and rubber membrane contacts into a bucket with soapy water to remove all the crap then rinse them off with water. Clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol and a qtip.
