Why SNES games are so vivid compared to GBA ports?
I began to play Final Fantasy II on SNES and it seems to look a lot better than FF IV Advance. Let's say, enemy death animation is a lot more interesting.
>>2845467
GBA had a weird resolution
also has a much less 'vivid' sound.
so hard to play GBA games for me nowadays b/c of this
>>2845467
>Why SNES games are so vivid compared to GBA ports?
They intentionally washed out the colors so they'd be brighter and easier to see on the unlit GBA screen.
It ruined the look of a lot of games. I wish they had the foresight to just include a backlight from the beginning.
The voice over work in this is fucking crazy good, especially compared to other games from the time.
A Japanese PlayStation game from 1998 with no weird inflections and little-to-no mistranslations, how did they do it?
>>2845214
They took their time and hired competent people. Not complicated.
Classic Mei Ling a best.
>>2845214
You like Castlevania, don't you?
>>2845228
That accent would get me rock hard as a kid... they fucked up by changing her VA in the remake.
What is the most graphically impressive game for the SNES that used no expansion chips?
I'm rather fond of the Goemon games.
Not sure if "impressive" is the word, but they're very colorful, lively, well animated and just full of eye candy.
Donkey Kong Country easily.

Your opinion on PROBOTECTOR?
>tfw no reboot.
censored 50fps contra
>>2845052
Hey, hey! The GB games are in 60fps and the one on the Konami GB Collection isn't even censored!!!
>>2845052
>censored
That's not how you spell "improved".
just beat this tonight. Really fun game. controls seem a little weird at first, but you adjust and get used to them quickly and they become second nature. It plays like a parody version Adventure Island where you jump on enemies instead of throwing axes, I had no idea that the games had so much in common. also the Japanese television show that it's based on (Fun TV with Kato-chan and Ken-chan) is the Japanese equivalent and inspiration for America's Funniest Video's. so JJ & Jeff pretty much an video game version of AFV.
also, I had played this game...

genji tsushinn agedema ... or however it's spelled.
awesome run n gun autoscroller. not enough games in this wicked genre
>>2844964
Definitely a cool game. I like the genies and the nuke
Recently beat Momotaro Katsugeki. It's like Keith courage except it's good. By Hudson, and only in Japanese. But you can get through it by just upgrading sword and armor.
There's also homages to crazy climber, donkey kong and Mario land's underwater level
This is the shit.
Like castlevania 1 but better
How does this make you feel /vr/?

Considering that Steam is terrible DRM, I feel nothing at all.

If its the saturn version, awesome. But if its the PS1 version, that would suck same with the Lunar remakes weren't they intended for the Saturn ? maybe im wrong with Lunar tho
>>2844775
lunar was sega CD, but the remakes vs the originals are a matter of preference for many, there are merits to both versions of lunar
>one hit death
>three lives

Why would anyone be so sadistic as to design a game like this? Even assuming it was the 80s and no one knew anything about proper game design, did no one who play tested it think it was too hard and speak up? I mean it's just common sense that people aren't perfect, yet they still made games that demanded perfection.
git gud fgt
What game is that?

Fighting Frogs Simulator 2014
Abyss- Incident at Europa
I remember getting this as a gift when I was a kid. It was based off a movie, or a sequel to it, I cant remember.
anyone else play this? It's been so long I can't remember if it was any good.
>>2844442
im extremely intrigued by this game, where can iget it?
>>2844551
I dont know. If I still had the disc I'd share the iso.
I was too young to git gud at this one. The picture above is all i remember.
graal online
started off as zelda online in 1998

Why bring up awful terrible horrible memories
that looks like my asshole
i just accidentally bought a pal game instead of an ntsc game online and i need to know if its possible to play pal on ntsc n64. ik abouth this "mod" where you can play japanese n64 games by taking out the plastic piece so it'll fit but im not sure about pal
That mod doesn't work for PAL. I don't know if there is a way to play PAL games on an NTSC N64, but even if there is, if the game has been in any way optimised for PAL it won't run as it should on NTSC.
>>2844232
is it because europe doesnt use the same kind of composite cables. like whats the big difference between ntsc and pal?
It wont work due to TV refresh rate differences between regions. You could mod the N64 to make it work, but it honestly isn't worth it imo.
As I grow older, I feel I'm slowly moving away from portable gaming. In the past I played the shit out of my game boy color and even game boy advance, but as the nostalgia wears off, there seem to only be a only few gems in terms of retro portable gaming (something like link's awakening comes to mind) that still hold my interest. I find that most portable games of that time were just inferior versions of experiences you could get on the home consoles. I realize portable gaming is meant to be for on the go, but again, as I get older there are fewer and fewer situations where I would been have the chance to game outside of my home.
I know a lot of you probably get comfy at home with your game boys even though you've got great console setups available to you, so my question is why?
Both. Lately I've been completing games (with password system) by switching between playing the actual SNES console with CRT TV and playing them on my PSP.
mostly consoles. if i could convince my parents to buy me a game, the clear choice was usually a console game for quality and longevity. i could always replay link's awakening on the go
>>2844165
as a kid my first system was a game boy color, sometimes I wonder if I had gotten a snes instead, maybe I would have never even been interested in the game boy at all
So, when was the last time any of you play TRUXTON! It is one of, if not the best game ever.
>>2844096
Truxton isn't even one of the best vert shmups around. I like it a fair bit, but it's honestly pretty boring as the genre goes. And no, I'm not comparing it to bullet hell.
>>2844096
Cool name
Lame game

Anybody know what certain PS1 games have issues on the PS2?
I have both a PS1 and PS2, but they are hooked up in two different rooms and sometimes I wanna play in the room with the PS2.
Only problem I've heard about is Symphony of the Night having audio issues with the music in the background.

>>2844075
What's wrong? Are you actually so retarded that you can't manage to figure out how to operate a search engine?
>>2844079
>PS2 games not compatible with PS2s
Good job Sony.
Can we talk about Pac-Man clones and knock offs?
Oh shit
Deluxe Pac-Man seemed like an interesting twist to the game, even if it was a blatant rip-off.
I liked this one more than the original.
So, little question for anyone who might know. My SNES broke a few years back and I decided to replace it. For whatever reason, a standard Super Famicom is far cheaper on eBay than any SNES I can find (too many produced???) so I bought one instead.
I've heard some shit about not using cartridge adapters, that it could damage the console or something? I have no idea as I'm unaware of any SFC to SNES adapters though I would imagine they exist seeing as there's many of the inverse.
It's hooked up and working fine but I'm obviously only able...

use a game genie or something
>>2843918
Who cares if it gets damaged? You can literally buy a brand new one for 50 bucks.
Why wouldn't you use an adapter? Get a Game Genie and cut it down to fit in the SFC's slot then you have an adapter and cheats too.
