As someone who would like to play some NES and SNES titles, which emulator is the best and most accurate to the original consoles which does well enough the job of replicating the original experience?
As someone who never really got into games pre N64/PSX I'd like to know some basic stuff too I guess, any recommendations?
>>3256051
Higan for SNES, accept no substitutes.
>>3256056
Any filter that I should use? any settings recommendations?
I'm going to play Chrono Trigger btw.
>>3256132
Slow down there cowboy. Do you even have an i7? Anything less and you won't even be able to start Higan.
Star Fox thread.
Discuss Star Fox games and clones.
Something that's always bothered me - why has no one done a complete SUPER FX style fangame/clone of this game?
>>3254997
IIRC it was stupid difficult to program for, that's why there were only a couple games to ever use it.
>>3254997

No thanks
You could always try that unreleased starfox 2 game
retro games that only you seem to have played
I didn't know this game existed until this morning.

Excellent flight sim set in the Pacific Theather during WW2.
Only I and my mother's father have played it.
Space Trader for Palm OS. It's like a stripped-down babby version of Elite or the X series, but it's still pretty fun. I wish I knew how to code; the game's open source and I'd love to add more quests and ship types to it.
Windows port is here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/spacetraderwin/
Why the fuck is this game so expensive? Is it because the MemeGrumps did a let's play of it?
>>3254780
Exactly.
/thread
It was a highly-rated game that came out late during the NES' lifespan (around the time the Super NES was launched). It's always been somewhat sought-after.
It's been above $50 well before Gamegrumps had an episode about it. Also seems to be that everyone had the Nintendo Power issue that covered it.
What a quirky lil game that was
Lotsa fun, but scared the shit out of me as a young child.
"Stay a while... Stay... Forever!"
Is the Wii remake faithful to the original? Has anyone played it?

Sup, bitches? You dropped your tissue.
I liked casting White Wind on undead monsters because the reverse effect meant instead of healing and curing all ailments, it damaged and attempted to inflict all.

This is now a /gouraud/ thread
When I was a kid, I used to think a couple things about the 1/35 soldier models.
1. 1/35 meant there were 35 in the game and I had to find all 35. I didn't know 1/35 meant scale size.
2. 1/35 soldiers would turn into free units at the battle of the Phoenix mini game. I have no idea why I thought that.
Most annoying enemies/hazards/stages in /vr/ sonic history?
Pic related. Marble Garden is worse than Sandopolis.
bullshit. marble garden is actually a fun level. sandopolis is not and the color palette is atrocious.
the barrel is the worst.
Is that a black face?
In a 90's american comic, no less?

>marble garden is actually a fun level.
in what universe?
How do I get into Ultima?
Read about what happens in 1/2, either read about 3 or play it (not really required but 3 is the best original trilogy Ultima), play IV, make FUCKING SURE you play V, optionally play VI, play VII, then live the rest of your life believing that Origin never made another Ultima game after VII despite all evidence to the contrary.
Make sure you have the manuals that come with the game because it helps you with a few things in the game.
Have something to write down/type in notes during the game because you'll need it.
And have fun.
>>3254497
>Origin never made another Ultima game after VII despite all evidence to the contrary.
But Blue Sky Productions/Looking Glas Studios did.
I would suggest just playing 1. There's no plot worth mentioning but it's so short and simple it's hardly wasted time.
2 can be ignored completely.
Ultima keeps jumping around in how it plays like so while there are particular "groupings" like 1-3, 4-5 and 7/SI, being able to play one game doesn't mean that you would be able to play the others.
>Descent 1 and 2 you have a limited number of lives which can be increased through score or pickups. Death drops all your gear, so you need to be able to get back to where you died and risk fighting whatever killed you to retrieve it. Progress through game allows you to restart missions with no gear and a fixed number of lives in case you run out of lives completely.
>Descent 3 has no lives system, but death respawns you with the level in the same state as when you died, so all progress is preserved. Essentially someone...

So that non autists can enjoy the game too.

But almost no other shooters are designed in this way....You either have lives or you restart the entire level/from a checkpoint on death.
>>3254342
>Descent 1 and 2 you have a limited number of lives
I don't recall that. On death you dropped your items, but you didn't restart the entire level over.
Is it possible to make your own multicart? Ive seen and read the tutorials on how to make your own repros for single games, but I cant find one for making something similar to pic related. I want to make like a 2 in one or maybe a 4 in one of the games i like most.
Is there a tutorial out there for what I'm looking to do? I want ot make a Genesis/Megadrive multicart.
well first you have to be chinese. are you?
>>3254035
Most multicarts are crap. Some of the games have timing issues, others have buggy sound, some have title screens removed.
I used to love the idea of these things when I was a kid. But then I got older and bought a bunch for various systems. They're all crap.
>>3254042
Here's an odd MD multicart that uses switches on the top:

would something like this be better?
Just bought one one these Honeybee FC-to-NES cart adapters. My console generally works fine, but using this thing keeps giving me the blinking red light after dozens of attempts. Is there anything I need to do in order to get this thing to work properly? Or do I have to keep wiggling the damn thing in place until I find that sweet spot all of my other games always seem to hit?
>>3253986
Are you able to get them to play at all? I don't know about the honeybee but most of those adapters don't have a 10nes chip in them, which means the region lockout isn't going to let the games boot at all. That's what the blinking light is, it's the system getting caught in a reset loop because the lockout chip isn't allowing it to load what it thinks is a pirated game.
Go on YouTube and find a walkthrough for snipping the lockout chip, not only will you be able to play imports...

When I consulted Google, I found absolutely nobody bitching about needing to disable the 10NES before getting the Honeybee to work. Everyone keeps talking about it like it's supposed to just plain work. And Honeybee being a company from Taiwan, I figured they just disregarded copyright/patent laws regarding the lockout chip. (Pic related; I don't know for sure, but I think the black chip on the left side of the board is probably the chip that makes it work.) The closest I've come to this possibly working...

Ah yep, that's definitely the lockout chip on the left side of the board. I figured it had one given how pricy it is, but I'd recommend disabling the chip in your NES anyway just to not have to deal with the blink like you said.
Another thing, are you trying to play the games in the up position? I have pic related, it's cheap and Chinese and doesn't have a lockout chip in it, and the games don't play in the down position because the board doesn't have those long contacts that the...

he's just like me. intelligent, nihilistic and with a wicked sense of humor ;)
I was thinking of playing this game before the original because I heard it's much better but should I play the 1st game before so I can understand the story?
Also I've had people tell me that I should follow a guide to tell me where all of the party members are because if I don't get all of the 100+ of them I won't get the true ending is this true or does it not really matter? I'm not one to normally use guides but if it has to do with the story I'd want to get them all is that something I should worry about or is it easy to find them?
>>3253924
You don't need to play the first one to understand 2. Some characters return, but let's just say 1 happened in an entirely different country than 2. About geting the 108 characters, you may indeed need a guide, because you can lock yourself out of getting 108. About the endings... well, they're kinda different, so if you're only playing this once, aim for the true ending.
There's a game-spanning sidequest that gives closure for a character, but it's so restricting that you may as...

I think I might actually just play the original first since apparently there is an overarching story to the first 3 games in the series I'd like to get the references and characters I wouldn't otherwise since this series looks to be one that I could get really into
Have you played 3? I heard it's not as good but is it worth laying at all?
You don't need to, but it's recommended.
Wait… What?
