I found this and thought you guys might find it interesting: a top 100 games of all time list written in September 1996 published by Next Generation magazine.

http://imgur.com/a/8X4B6

It's like a time capsule and it's really interesting to see how video games were viewed 20 years ago, especially given context today. For just one example, this is pre-Ocarina of Time, so we get a much more subdued look at the Zelda series, in which they say it's great, but it's not held with the same legendary status as it is today.

It's also interesting to think that if this list were made just two years later, it would have been completely different.

Why does that even exist, I just want to hop and shoot and throw grenades in peace

OP here. I actually beat the game and got all gold trophies without paying too much mind to it. I did try to learn about it in the manual but then just said "fuck it" and went with my gut and felt it out.

I have to confess that I played this game to death as a kid without knowing about power slide boosts.

Using fanart of an obscure character might not attract many people I love Suzaku though

My favorite is a tie between Goemon 2 on SFC and Goemon's Great Adventure, although MNsG remains my favorite for story, setting, humor and overall adventure feel.

I played and finished Seasons and Ages recently and quite liked them. Looking back I might have slightly preferred Ages to Seasons, I thought it had a better story and atmosphere despite some parts of the game being a bit irritating. Dungeons and puzzles were also better I thought. Since I played Ages as the second quest I might be a bit biased though, I don't know. All in all I still think of both games as one.

I'm also confused as to why people always call Seasons prettier than Ages, both games were pretty, if anything I thought Ages to be even prettier at times.

SCART is inferior in every way to RGB over BNC or Component and NTSC HDTVs had VGA ports until very recently, some still do.

This.

Mine still has a VGA, but really, who even cares about them other than retro fans now? HDMI is the way to go.

Pay 10 bucks for a converter, and you're good to go.

Well why don't any consoles support it, when they support RGB SCART just fine?

Doom was ported to everything. ROTT had zero ports. That's a shame as the hardware Doom was ported to would've run ROTT much more smoothly, fullscreen and all.

A GBA port with link cable multiplayer would've been especially cool.

After years of wanting one, I'm finally going to pull the trigger and buy myself a PC Engine.

The problem is that I know very little about the differences between the different versions of the console. Which version should I be looking to get? The Duo is out of my price range, unfortunately.
22 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>3259540
Depends.

Most people will say the only reason to own a PC-Engine is for the CD games so you should probably just hold off, or grab one with the CD attachment instead of the duo.
>>
>>3259546

Understandable, but I know there's enough HuCard games that I enjoy to warrant getting just the main console for now. I've already checked for one with the CD, and it's not an option at the moment, but I figure I could buy it separately down the road.

theres the pc engine (the white one), the core grafx and the core grafx 2 and they're all basically the same so don't worry about missing out. The word is that the cd addons are not very reliable on the whole and that you really want a duo of some sort if you want cd. The supergrafx is overpriced and is a waste of time. It only supports 6 extra games (probably 2 you'd actually want to play) and won't work with the cd addons. The controllers are expensive so make sure you get one with the console. I have pic related and am pretty happy with it. Also the controller cords are pretty short just so you know.

Hello anons little unsure where I should post this but here goes.
I am currently downloading a old classic called Might and Magic VI, since Piratebay.se/piratebay.org is shutdown in Norway
I went to several sites and found a site where i can download a huge winrar file of the game(s)

My Question is do i need to use Dosbox to run Might and Magic VI?

DOSBox, no.

Windows only, but that doesn't mean it'll run on XP or later. GOG version probably works.

What is the best side Scrolling Beat Em Up and why is it TMNT 4: Turtles In Time?
183 posts and 40 images submitted.
>>
Ninja Warriors Again is better, or are we only talking about belt scrollers?
>>
>>3254505
No, we're talking about beat 'em ups.
>>
It's my favourite because of the great controls and all the moves you can do with just two buttons

Off the top of my head...

Jump-Attack (While going up): Kick
Jump-Attack (At top height): Slow jump with multiple attacks
Jump-Attack (While going down): Usual jump kick
Dash-Attack: Tackle
Dash-Jump: Roll
Dash-Jump-Attack: Slide

Then you have the different kinds of grab you can do depending on how close you are to the enemy. There's the stomp to the sides, the through towards the screen...

What beat'em ups/belt scrollers have such a huge variety of moves? (That you can control, not counting the ones that do random shit each time you hit)
