I love this game!
I wish it was discussed more on here.
I think PS1 could handle Half-Life if they tried hard enough.
Of course it could, it managed Quake 2.
However the levels would be piss short and the transitions annoying as fuck. Also the physics/lighting would be totally static.
It would have worked but been a totally gimped version of the game.

I love how the Red/Blue fight keeps boiling down to Charmander/Squirtle when you could choose either of them in either game. It never comes around to the real argument.

Just finished Shadow Warrior (Classic Redux)
Second hardest difficulty
Was very frustrating at many parts, but overall really enjoyable and better than most modern shooters.
Should I continue with both expansion packs? or play something like Blood or Quake 2?

Unfortunately modern single player FPS games are few and far between and are slapped togeather slop and shit. So yeah SW is better than 95%
Recommend some similar games?
Go play Blood. It has far more intuitive and memorable levels, is more difficult and has a really cool atmosphere. Probably the best build engine game, SW doesn't come close.
It is happening. It is real. This is a thing now. It allows for higher frame rates, and does not seem to cause issues. What has it now:
1. A special build of PCSX-R.

how to fight against reptile?
enable cheat menu, flag 2 and 3 on, win in the pit level with double flawless and fitality...no reptile.
play normal without any cheats...beat the game 6 times...no reptile an no silhouettes on the moon...never.

Not sure if is only 6 times. I have the feeling it could be more. I used to play it for hours as a kid, and I remember it took me a really long time to get the silhouettes for the first time.
But yeah, if I recall correctly it can be done. I didn't knew about the cheat menu when I played it back then, and I have clear memories of fighting against Reptile more than once..

99 Evo had a few extra striker-only characters and 3D backgrounds, I don't recall if it also had the Arrange soundtrack, gameplay is the same as the arcade version, as far as I remember

Anybody have any favorites? Combat Tanks, Jewel Thief, Jezzball, Pipe Dream, Castle of the Winds, all bring back memories. The collection isn't very well sorted (half of them are under "Windows 3.1 Shareware"), but still, oldass windows games in your browser.
It may be just as well because there's really not a good way to play old Windows games on modern hardware. Sort of a gaping hole in emulation capabilities.

Do you tend to prefer retro games over newer games, and if so, why?
I've been playing the first Tomb Raider for the first time (I was a Nintendo kid growing up so I missed out on the original Playstation), and while it definitely is on the clunky side, I feel it has a certain mystique that modern games don't have. This might be a bit of a stretch, but I find that the clunkiness of the controls actually adds to the experience, because scaling a large vertical room actually feels rewarding because the jumps are tricky to make. I find that modern games would eliminate all the challenge because the controls are much more streamlined.
What draws you to retro games over modern ones?

The simple non long winded answer is modern games as a whole are garbage. They're filled with dumb down games play. You also have all the horrible DLC, online paywalls, etc.
I also grew up with retro games in the 90s so.

I get what you're saying. Struggling with controls isn't good game design though. It feels like a barrier that you just adjust to. It's definitely satisfying though when swimming through shit stops smelling so much

Well for starters, it isn't a cinematic AAA linear interactive movie that you stop and play for five minuets before handing the control back over to the game, while having your hand held through any 'exploration' segments and any sense of danger/control stripped away during quick-timer events.
It's the antithesis of modern AAA game design, or rather, the thing it's already become.
But it sucks and deserves to die a horrible death because of Tank Controls™

Live-A-Live, along with a number of other fan-translated "gems," are just hipster trash. There's probably a good reason why Square never bothered to localize it. It's a highly niche title directed at Japanese audiences, and I doubt even they cared much for it. The mechanics are experimental but in no way innovative or fun, the story is short, the dialogs are brief, the characters are all flat, unemotional and largely insignificant to any bigger picture, and the game has no replay value.
It's been discussed on /vr/ before, but mostly by one autistic individual who felt the need to shoehorn references to the game in numerous other threads that had nothing to do with it. Let's not go down that road again...
