What are some of the biggest rage quit inducing games? I remember being the cause of a few broken things around the house back in the day because of pic related.
This little fucker right here. Eventually I shivved the cartridge with a pocket knife.

Fuck you.
Post stuff from retro game development
Betas and stuff
I found some Quake prototypes the other day. Not Qtest1, they're versions that are much closer to release but they have some big differences. Several map differences and an entirely different END map which is impossible to finish as far as I can tell.

How the fuck were you supposed to know to press start?
you've not put much effort into this have you
>pushing start
well, there's your mistake
pushing start on that screen pretty much guarantees that you're going to die

You were supposed to press power and go play the arcade version.
>no single player campaign
I'm still mad.
It's a tech demo.
UT was better.
Is there a campaign mod or something?
Saw this article on Nintendo enthusiasts about a snes bike I never heard of. Share all the good rare stuff here:

What are your favorite PS1 games for couch multiplayer, /vr/? Pic related is mine
>>3047520
One of the first games my brothers and I owned on the PSX, and we played the shit out of it.
I've noticed that the "Ultima" series has some very, very distinct similarities to Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Is this possibly the origin of JRPGs (and WRPGs too)? If this is so, why do these games not get recognized as much for such an overwhelming achievement?
>>3047201
People forgot about western retro games outside of the Atari in general. Nintendo (and to a lesser extent Sega) has done a good job of preserving interest in Japanese retro games, but Western companies haven't done the same. Most people can't name 5 games from the Commodore 64 and Amiga, excluding sequels.
Back in the 80s, Yuji Horii and Koichi Nakamura were these bros at this company called Enix. Yuji liked Ultima (specifically Ultima 3), but Koichi liked Wizardry.
They got together like two potheads and said, what if, like, we took the overworld exploration from Ult, and like, combined it with the combat of Wiz? That'd be fuckin rad broooooo....
The result was Dragon Quest.
>>3047201
>why do these games not get recognized as much for such an overwhelming achievement?
They kinda do. Richard Garriott, the maker of the Ultima games, is kind of a big deal.
You don't hear about it much anymore because the number of people interested is those games is now low, but still.

Pretty sure I've gotten up there before.
What old videogames do you consider to be overrated and to have aged badly, /vr/?

nice one-off, mate
I'm new to the series so I've been looking for some advice on which one to start out with. I've heard Symphony of the Night is better than everything that came before it, but also that Super Castlevania 4 would be a pretty good choice too. What do you think, /vr/?
Oh boy, a Castlevania thread about which one is "best".
If you're not baiting, start with the first one, plain and simple. Work your way up from there.

Don't tell.
For the love of God don't tell me.
That Simon Belmont is based on King Conan as played by Arnold. The similarities in dress, clothing, and style are impossible to miss now.
Because that would make yet ANOTHER video game character inspired by Arnold, or an Arnold film.

Rondo is GOAT. Avoid the ones that play like Metroid unless you're a casual shitter. IV isn't very good because it runs slow and is boring. After you 1cc Rondo you should play New Generation next.
How come there was never a better rail shooter made than this one?
Sin and Punishment is my favorite one overall, but Space Harrier is up there, pretty solid, timeless classic.
Also I wish this got released
Let's not forget arcade Galaxy Force II. Burning Force is another rad one.

I finally got to play this game. It was kind of fun except for having to repeat the boat minigame three times. Even the game recognizes that was a lame move.
>>3043797
Come on, it's 2016.
Something something 2016.
What do you guys think a 16-bit port of Diablo would be like?
More repeating tiles because of limited space, but otherwise, probably not all that different if it was on say a SNES.
>>3043302
>More repeating tiles because of limited space
I believe Diablo uses far less tiles than games like Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI. The game isn't very expansive, and the environments don't have that many details.
If I'm not mistaken though, buildings in Diablo are object models and not tiles. I'm not sure how the logic for that works, but all of the objects could probably be converted into a tileset regardless.
Save space is a big problem in my eyes. The PS1 port already had ridiculous needs and floppies didn't cut it either so only systems with hard drives can really be considered.
What went wrong?
The epic tale of a bunch of porn actors going out to save the world.
More focus on Heroes than on the RPG games, Lithtech and Ubisoft.
M&M8 went away from building the whole party and added the OP dragons (and, on the other hand, utter horseshit minotaurs) and M&M9 shat the bed by being rushed. Tbh you can see that M&M games were rushed in some way ever since 7. NWC always had terrible management policies.
God damn that was fantastic
>dat prologue
>shit ton of events
>all them cute girls
>them mini games

>even the support guy characters are cute
Other than the soundtrack using a bunch of public domain tunes here and thereit always pisses me off when games do thatand the cockroach girl voice actress raping my ears that was pretty close to perfect, is there a dating...

I learned Japanese so I could play Tokimemo and Doukyuusei and I still haven't gotten around to properly playing them.
>>3042704
One playthrough of Tokimemo takes about a day, do it. Tokimemo 2 is fantastic.
Is Tokimeki 2 better than the first? Having to be on watch so you don't blow up any mines was pretty annoying.
Man, Dating sims are such a huge investment sometimes.
