Why, though? I can understand if it doesn't follow the usual Castlevania formula, but is it good on its own? Also, how's the sequel?

That is pretty much it. It is a good game but the problem is that you have to get accustomed to the controls and that there are certain parts that the camera will fight you or make you die such as obscuring a platform you want to jump on and end up dying due to that.

So no, it isn't really that bad.

Get a PS2 or PS3 instead. Those consoles play PS1 games. Or you could get an actual PS1. A PS1 is pretty easy to find and it's dirt cheap too.

Should someone follow this advice? I noticed the game had spears and I love spears, if a spear playthrough is possible I'd probably want to do that, more or less.

Unless you have a market outside of ebay where you can regularly obtain cheap stock (or you already have a large amount of games to sell), you'll probably wind up being one of those tards who buys on ebay and tries to resell on ebay, either losing money, breaking even, or sitting on an excessive BiN that no one ever pursues.

Maybe you'll have some luck on cl, but you won't be the only one shopping there nor is cl a guaranteed deal. Unless you are very aggressive and very diligent about hitting up all available markets, my feeling is that you'd be fighting for pennies.

Run up close to him so he does his melee attack. Back up before he hits you, unload what you got, repeat. Time it just right.
