Why did the SNES have worse arcade-action games than the Genesis despite having better hardware?

How are you supposed to avoid Dr. Wily's second form attacks in Mega Man 2?
what is /vr/'s favorite dragon quest?
3 or 5
1
>>3107042
III or IV, my first was the sfc version of V.
If you like dragon quest try the mother series. This board loves dragon quest but shits on mother despite them both being pretty similar to each other.
Which do you prefer?
>>3107673
System Shock, actually. Even though I've played a LOT more halflife, I liked System Shock. Deus Ex was kinda meh, despite how everyone else seems to come in their pants about it.
System Shock 2 > Deus Ex > HL1
but they're all 3 masterpieces desu senpai
Half Life.
The higher you get up the ladder in Mortal Kombat II, will the CPU learn and adapt to your play style? For example, if you utilize a lot of flying kicks will it cause Baraka to use his Shredder move more often to try and catch you midair? I found that using moves I wouldn't normally use on opponents higher up the ladder is pretty effective.
>>3100440
Bump
I used to think this as a kid about MK3. But later I learned the computer is incapable of "learning" what you do. I think at most it has a line of programming that says "if X move is used Y times, do Z instead". Mixing up the moves does seem to help, but I think it's just about knowing how many you can pull off before you switch the AI's rails to countering you constantly.
>>3100440
No, but it will read more of your inputs.
Holy shit this game is boring after the first 4-5 hours. The beginning was great. Beautiful music, fun combat... but you end up doing the same thing over and over and over...
It's getting fucking tedious. I have 4 sorcerers. 2 of them are almost masters of fire, 1 is almost a master of water, and 1 is an expert in air and light. Everyone is an expert in air.
About to do the quest for the arch mage promotion.
But holy moly I don't want to play anymore. So damn repetitive.
Is the game more fun (i.e. faster and less tedious) with non-magic...

Is this your first RPG?
Why would you run 4 sorcerers in the first place? Why not go with a more balanced party for the start?
M&M is not a deep series. Most of the time you just spam quick fight and mow through hordes of enemies.
The most fun I had was when I had ventured way too deep into enemy territory and barely managed to escape using the landscape to my advantage.
Also, mountain climbing. It's just fun to explore.
I first saw this game when I first came to /vr/ but haven't seen it again since. I start the chain with this photo of three games I own. If you also own one of the three games, you take that game and two different games and snap a new photo. The next anon does the same and so on.
Let's try to not repost the same game like Mario World 30 times.
Also, if you happen to own the uber rare shit like Nintendo World Championship or Magical Chase, don't be a dick and post ONLY that. Try and include at least one other game that other folks might own.
>>3077995
Sounds like fun.
>>3078028
Not same region.
Op here is the correct answer.
>>3078069
Meh, region doesn't really matter as long as it's the same game. Remakes and ports might be a bit a lot more contentious, but whatever keeps the thread moving I suppose.
Cool pic btw.
Are Happ/IL joysticks still the best for retro arcade gaming? Or is there a Jap stick thats better for shit like Metal Slug and Street Fighter?
>>3109552
it's all subjective, just go for personal preference and adjust the gate accordingly
>>3109552
Happ sticks are big, clunky and imprecise compared to JP sticks.
What they have over JP sticks is that they're virtually indestructible. This was an absolute requirement in North America because the patrons there abused the cabs constantly.
>>3109594
>>3109552
HAPP sticks are decent, but I wouldn't say they're overly good quality.
Happ is basically the low-end name brand stuff, I have them on my Neo-Geo MVS cab but I think soon I'll upgrade to sanwa or something a bit higher end.
I think the ball tops are a little more "arcade" and function a bit better as well.

Stfu tumblr.
>>3103257
Why were there so many of them?
>>3103298
NEC didn't have the R&D for a new console, they stayed in the market as long as they could through multiple revisions and releasing add-ons. Most of the PC Engine profit came from selling multi-taps and controller extension cords.
Save the animals, yes or no?
>>3100248
I don't know how to save the animals. There's a lot to know about Super Metroid before one truly masters it.
>>3100290
It's a pretty easy alternate route you have to take during the final escape sequence. There's no real benefit or penalty either way unless you're rubbish at the jumps during the vertical portion and can't spare the time.

When are you supposed to press the buttons in this piece of shit? I've gotten here and it's still a mystery.
>>3115727
I also notice it doesn't really confirm whether you got it right or not aside from some subtle shit. And even if you get it perfect it can still sound a little off.
YOU GOTTA BELIEVE.
>>3115729
yeah in the tas it almost never sounds right even though it's perfectly precise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbYdRZ8FiuA
i think you have to do it after the head goes after the button, not during?
Treasure's worst
>>3115357
>guaranteed replies
Ooh, aah, way to shake-shake things up there OP.
>implying a Suganami game is one of the worst
Way to fail at your own bait OP. Besides, there's other Treasure games that trigger people a lot more, like Ikaruga.
Treasure's actual worst (in terms of /vr/-era Treasure) is probably Rakugaki Showtime, but even that one is still somewhat fun to play.
Mischief Makers is not their best, but it's up there.
SHAKE SHAKE
So, these are the only two old school Sonic games I've never played in my life, and I come to you to ask if they are worth playing
sonic cd sure, if you like sonic. chaotix nah
Just emulate them both, it's worth it for the music and production values alone.
>>3113905
Sonic CD is the best Sonic game ever made.
Is this the most innovative fifth-gen game? It's the only one I can think of that utilized two analog sticks really well.
Also, innovative retro games thread.
I disliked using the analog to swing the net, pointing a direction and pressing a button will always feel more intuitive to me.
>>3113645
I wouldn't really call the controls innovative so much as kind of obtuse. Rotating the control stick to spin your propellor or swing your sword was a pain the ass, for instance. Sure, it was cool to be able to control a toy car and run at the same time, but for every moment the control gimmicks worked there were dozens where it fell apart. All said, however, Ape Escape is a very fun and solid game and I love to replay it every couple of years
>>3113651
This. It makes more sense in the context of games like Gunstar Heroes and Smash TV where you NEED to have independent aiming from movement, but with a platformer like this you'll almost never find yourself needing to swing in a direction other than the one you're facing.
Is this a good game?
>>3113393
It's okay. The edgelords on here will tell you otherwise but it's not a bad play
>>3113393
I liked it. I never beat it though. I enjoyed the first one more.
>>3113393
It's above average but not great by any stretch of the imagination.
