Don't mind me, I'm just the single best music track from a video game in the 90s.

Gonna be honest, I'm a little disappointed that webm isn't playing the music. It would have been perfect.

I beat 1, 2, 3 and 4, and the gameplay is okay. I feel like they're too linear and the stories aren't that captivating. I'm currently on 5, but I don't know if I should stick with this series.
I'm playing the games in order, by the way.

At the very least give 6 a try, it's definitely the highlight of the retro series.
You're only getting to the best part. Honestly, 1-3 are very archaic if you're not a JRPG buff in the first place, and IV is just overrated garbage.
V is the best game in the series however, and VI and VII are iconic for a reason. Keep playing.
6 is GOAT but 5 is second GOAT because of the class system. 7 was revolutionary because it's "three-dee" but after that the series takes a plunge and really gets away from the medieval setting with knights and wizards and stuff. I mean 7 already did with the cars and stuff, but whatever, at the time it wasn't the norm yet.
Underrated Platform/Sidescrollers thread?

Prehistorik Man.
I mean, seriously the game is so pleasantly beautiful and has so much style that I sincerely don't understand how is it not even metioned often. The soundtrack is competent, flows well with the humor of the game. Its also quite long for a platfomer of its time (IF you play on normal mode) and the fact that it actually has a plot and several different characters involved in the story makes it a lot more interesting.
The only thing that I would complain is the fact that the controls...

Wow, I haven't seen this game since I was in second grade. What a blast from the past.
Does Ed Boon hate MK4 or something? Didnt even include in the Arcade Kollection.
Never gets old.

Yeah its weird. I always thought MK4 was popular?
>>3185140
It has the cutest Sonya and lightning fast gameplay. The weapons are useless, don't pick them.
what's some of the worst boxarts you've ever seen on games?
Also: The US box art for everything, ever.
>>3156346
Yeah why we keep doing that btw?
Would you have fucked Cloud in drag?
>>3129903
nah bro, lightning is built like a sheet of plywood
>>3129903
No homo butt he is a pretty cute girl.
yup.
Looking for a game I haven't seen in years.
It involved bunnies (I think) killing each other that exploded into red chunks when they died.
Played on a 2D plane with platforms, could have had fatal waters.
Don't know anymore if it was turn-based or not.
>>3213386
You're probably thinking of Lemmings.
>>3213392
Thanks but no, that wasn't it.
It was something you could play against each other. There was combat of a sort.
Its like worms but with bunnies
Do you like gimmick-heavy stages? (think of pic related or treasure games) what's your opinion on them? I think they've gotten a bad rep lately but personally I find them incredibly enjoyable when done well
>>3212018
What gimmicks?
Battletoads was a platformer/belt scroller/racer all in one game.
Too bad battletoads didn't do them well.
>>3212018
Gimmick heavy?
>being so young that you think that battle toads was "gimmick heavy"
What type of character should I make? Will making a magic based character make this game harder?
>>3211963
Make one akin to yourself, 1 INT, 1 STR, 1 CHR
>>3211991
Underrated boast
>>3211963
magic is easy mode, given that the stats you'll need to raise to be a good mage will be incredibly useful outside combat.
Thief class would be the hardest and most pointless one
Fix your aspect!
Stop playing 4:3 games on your 16:9 display.
horizontally stretched games on youtube trigger me but I pity them more than anything
Why? What's wrong with playing 4:3 games in 4:3 on a 16:9 monitor?
>>3211945
>horizontally
Thank you for specifying.
Guess you're perfectly fine with vertically stretched games then
after watching pic related last night I was wondering why hasn't there been a live action Fatal Fury with Seagal as Geese?
>>3211424
There was an awful King of Fighters movie starring a bunch of no-names. Terry was a cop or detective or some bullshit like that.
Current fat operator Seagal is too agile.

>Retro fighters always get the shittiest films
>Retro fighters always get the shittiest OVA's
Why must this always happen?
MetalHead
Since it's here, how do you play that level? I keep dying there.
>>3211290
Shoot as fast as possible and jump. Only takes like 30 seconds to clear it.
>the massively blown up screenshots guy just discovered vectorman
please kill yourself
Should I get this Sega Genesis /vr/? Its $35 and it comes with ecco the dolphin, along with some shit game.
I feel like $35 is too much for it, also it has some Indian dude's name on it
>>3211095
>also it has some Indian dude's name on it
he wiped his ass with his bare hand and used that controller afterwards, anon
>>3211103
So it's not worth $35?
>>3211106
I got it for $26. It's mint other than that dude's fucking name on it.
Is there a way to fix Spider-man 2000 on the PC? It's buggy as hell and crashes regularly.
MOVE IT SPIDEY MOVE IT
setup an emulator and one of the console versions, retard
There is a program for running full screen only games in Window mode which also works for improving compatibility with old games https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/
You can set certain settings, like single thread affinity and frame limiting.

in before some dumbshit comes in and calls metal slug a shitty quarter muncher
I want to say the only reason Metal slug wasnt more popular was because Contra was made more accessible. As a pup I immediately recognized the difference between the two and would have killed to have a neo geo
Both are classics. Contra will always be more fondly remembered by most because of its earlier mass market appeal. I just always enjoyed Metal Slug a bit more I guess due to the humor and art being top-notch. That sprite work is still fucking incredible.
