I've been getting into C64 emulation, what are some recommended games to try on it?
Also, is WinVICE still the best emulator to use?
VICE is fine. Also as far as recommended games, anything by Epyx, Broderbund, Origin, Synapse, LucasArts, Electronic Arts, Accolade, and Microprose.
Whatever you do, try out Exile.
These are my favorite c64 games in no order:
Lode Runner
Last Ninja 1-3
Turrican 1, 2
Impossible Mission 1, 2
Paradroid
Giana Sisters
Creatures 1, 2
Mayhem in Monsterland
Newcomer
Head Over Heels
Boulder Dash
you guys are purist, so tell me, are there any downsides to connecting your consoles through a VCR?
>>3332689
Few VCRs have Svideo and even fewer have RGB. There's no inherent drawback though unless you're using it as an RF modulator or something dumb like that.
>>3332689
Usually no, it's just a throughput, similar to an AV Splitter.
You'll be limited to composite or RF/coaxial usually.
You usually won't need one though.
>>3332689
not if youre using s-video or composite
Starts Tomorrow:July 3, 2016 — July 10, 2016

I;m looking forward to the Jet Grind Radio set. Its only 15 minutes long though unfortunately.
>>3332317

>>3332323
How the fuck can I shill for a free event
Remember this?
Looks like Nintendo doesn't like people trying to sell screencaps of their games.
Good, the world needs less hipster faggot trash

>deceptive Nintendo SoQ
hahah wheres the guy who posted that in the last thread, he called it.
Do I have the most broken final fantasy 5 Fiesta team this year?
Knight
Mystic knight
Geomancer
Chemist
I don't know if I'd call it the most broken, but it's pretty fucking solid. Good luck!
>>3331939
Blue Mage, Mystic Knight, Beastmaster and Chemist are the most broken together. Beast master helps obtain the earliest blue magic and makes for easy World 1 exp grinding, chemist breaks everything, and mystic knight for elemental output.
Ranger would also be another class with rapid fire and it's ignore % physical defense resist.
I just finished my run earlier today with a Thief/Summoner/Ninja/Dancer. Overall, it really wasn't too difficult, until I got to Neo-Exdeath. I first got to him at level 38 and he was curb stomping my ass. I had to grind up to level 48 and I beat him on my first try. This was my first year doing the FJF and I have to say it was pretty fun.
What does /vr/ think of this company?
What games did they make?
I used to have a Voodoo 3 3000
I loved my Voodoo 2. Great company, wish they were still around.
I want to start playing the old AD&D games, I mean the Gold Box ones and their contemporaries. Basically anything pre-Baldur's Gate goes. Which games should I play? Which ones should I avoid? Are they difficult to get into?
Eye of the Beholder for the SNES, and Warriors of the Sun for the Genesis. The first one is your classic dungeon crawler, while the second one is an open world, Ultima type game.
>>3331478
Didn't those games originally release for PC? Why go for console ports?
Just play the Forgotten Realms gold box series in order:
Pool of Radiance
Curse of the Azure Bonds
Secret of the Silver Blades
Pools of Darkness
Make sure to get the adventurers journals and read them as you play.
What are your favorite classic run and gun games, and why?
>Gunstar Heroes sonnnn
Alien Soldier
>I love boss rushes
>perfect, mobile, technical and still unmatched controls
>smooth as fucking hell
>the difficulty is spot on
>it's the perfect pick up and play
>incredible graphics even to this day
Contra Hard Corps and Mega Man X (if you consider it a run&gun, which I don't see why you wouldn't given there isn't much platforming compared...

I hate the mine cart level
Even the boss
>>3331473
You mean Green, the one with 7 god damn forms when playing on expert mode?
Man that shit was really hard. But memorable as hell, and it felt so god damn good after finally beating him. Few bosses today that can replicate that feeling of satisfaction.
What is happening to my game?
He's just spazzing out right there
Also the main menu had black lines
No sound glitches and I don't see misplaces textures and whatnot
Related, perhaps, was the oddity wherein my controller responded to the B button as Start, whilst the other keys did nothing.
Unplugging the machine remedied the issue, but was reproduced after an undetermined amount of time and game swaps.
No, Virginia, the paddle had Not been plugged in during operation.

It's haunted, best to burn it now and salt the pcb.
Thoughts?
Masterpiece.
Great game and really unique. There aren't many platformers where you can't jump.
>>3330332
First game I ever played.
Ask here for the names of games you don't remember
What's the name of the NES/famicom game on the pic?
>>3330283
Zooming Secretary
>>3330428
thx m8
I wasn't able to find what game it was beacuse it's a homebrew
There was once a standalone machine, it did not have any cartridge ports. It was shaped like a motorbiking helmet, and displayed some pretty smooth color vector art. I remembered the game was pretty fun. I think it may have been released prior to the 90s.

>HEY!
>You still don't have a Sega CD?
>It's ok because no one else does either.
Nintendo's coming out with one in a few years. I can wait.
I wanted a Sega CD so bad as a kid.

I'm going to a trip and will only have my shitty laptop to pass time, recommend some good DOS games or anything that runs on a toaster of toasters.
Kroz and ZZT series
And most other text mode games.

I'm having trouble with dosbox, it doesnt let me change the directory to my game folders, it keeps saying that c:\ already is the directory.
>>3328387
maybe it's already set to mount local C:\ as drive c: in dosbox.conf?
