Can you beat Punch out on an emulator on a LCD? I have no trouble with beating Super Punch Out but I just can't get trough the original one.

And I mean if you can beat it with enjoyment. There are some moments that ask for frame perfect reaction. You could probably beat it by anticipating those moments but those wouldn't be fun in any way.

I don't see why you couldn't.

Are you one of those donkeys that believes all lcd's have inherent lag?
Find a t.v. with low response time and you're good to go retard

Is there a way to deal with screen tearing (no v-sync) or with micro stutter (with v-sync)?
It seems like both are cancer and there is no way to avoid one or the other.

I already tried several emulators including picture related and the actual problem doesnt really come from the emulator itself, just wanted to get that part out of the way before someone suggest to try a different emulator.

Up until recently I was an original only fag but sold my collection so now Iam trying to find a way to still play some of the older games, especially on the snes.
The...

Audio rate control gets rid of stuttering by adjusting the audio output so the game will run at 60.0Hz instead of 60.098Hz, enabling smooth vsync with and imperceptable pitch and speed difference.

Otherwise you need to use video modes with exact refresh rates for every system.

Higan has the option to adjust its audio and video rates to match your system but RetroArch does it better by handling adjustments automatically with only needing to tell it your display refresh rate, and also makes microadjustments to the audio rate to keep the audio buffers from overrun or underrun due to frame time deviations.

>>2916602
Intereting, I will look it up thanks.
But will it solve the problem completly or am I going to accept a few hick ups here and there?
>>
>>2916609
It works as long as you can maintain stable fullspeed emulation and don't have any external factors like Aero interfering with vsync.

I myself like to go through it from start to finish without dying once, usually on the hardest difficulty. Using Doom II as an example, I'd consider it done when I've gone through all 30 non-hidden levels without dying a single time on UV (this is easy for me to do, I'm just using it as an example). Saving is allowed when I'm done for a session. If I die I'd start all over again from the beginning.

I love playing games like this because I feel it results in true mastery of the game and results in lots of replay value.

I've unearthed some old burnt CD-Rs of some Japanese PC games.. I of course can't seem to find any other place they might exist (I reckon they all come from Hongfire about a decade ago). If UGG was still around I bet they would have been on there, but I wanted to know, are any of these disc images rare or in need or being preserved? I'd like to throw this spindle out, but I do want the comfort of knowing these are atleast accessible to people out there before I do that.

While I am not an expert on Japanese games, I do believe you ought to upload those to a few websites if possible, try to get them out there for others to enjoy. Preserve them. But that is my inner archivist.

Japanese non-ero Windows 9x games tend to be a pain in the ass to keep track of, at least in my experience.
They may be available on some Japanese p2p network but I've failed to obtain Shin Eiyuu Densetsu and Sorcerian Forever myself and expect many of the other titles to have similar issues.
>>
>>2916517
Do you have the other ones?

Thing is that these images are prolly all corrupt to hell, on 10 year old cheap CD-Rs

Plus it's a fucking hassle. Yes, there is practically no scene for Japanese non-ero windows PC games. I don't know anything about accessing Japanese P2P networks either.

Any insight is appreciated.

What's the most underrated /vr/ console?

Anything with a large untranslated Japanese library. I would have said the Saturn a while ago, but its been getting more recognition lately, so I'll probably go with the PCE-CD.
>>
>>2916175
Saturn is the only sega console I haven't played extensively, It's kind of cost prohibitive to buy an Australian model, but I'm thinking of just getting a Japanese model with a bootdisk, those are quite inexpensive and there is a good chance I'd be mostly playing imported games anyway.
>>
>>2916175
Saturn always got plenty of love on /vr/ desu. PC Engine is a good choice.

I never see much PC-88/98 discussion either. Although that is obviously very obscure to western audiences.

Where do you order your import games? Mainly thinking about japanese titles.

Ebay? Rakuten or Amazon? Is there some special magic website that I don't know about?

I got this for Christmas one year and found it to be completely bullshit. Like, how are you supposed to know the blocks contain powerups? What five year old would actually read the fucking manual and automatically know that? It had a picture of Fire Mario on the cover, but I just thought that was something Nintendo put in just to be shits. Teasing you with an upgrade you couldn't actually get in game. I cried to my parents that the game sucked and they returned it for Karate Champ instead which was awesome. Ever since then I just automatically assumed all Mario games were...

1 MB,
Are there any good retro JRPGs where armor and weapons actually change your sprite/model?

I played through Soul Blader recently and I was disappointed that the character sprite never changed, considering it's such a simple game and the equipment already had inventory sprites. It would've added a good bit of personality to the game.

Well, in the FF games you can usually see different weapon sprites/models in battle (FF7 for example)

Weapon sprite changes were generally the most common since it didn't require redesigning the character.

It's minor, but Dragon Warrior 1 had weapon/shield equipped vs not equipped sprites. Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Robotrek, etc had different weapon sprites too.

If you're looking for armor differences, I think that is much more uncommon. Redesigning armor meant redesigning the entire sprite most times. Dragon Warrior 3's magic bikini and revealing swimsuit changed female sprites to bikini mode (in NES, all classes looked the same in a...

What are the best retro wrestling games everyone should play, /vr/?

for me, n64 wrestling games were like a successor to the beat'em'ups of the 16 bit era.

except the controls weren't as tight, the music wasn't as good, and you could only fight in a ring

but it still held me over and I played the fuck out of them. and I'm not at all into pro wrestling

oddly enough, when I eventually played Dynamite Cop and Zombie Revenge on the Dreamcast, which were more direct successors to SoR etc, I just couldn't get into them

My absolute favorite wrestling games are the King of the Monsters games. Nothing even compares. Despite being kind of shitty and overall little more than "walk up to the enemy and mash until all the skin on your thumb is gone," they're so much fun. The sense of scale is great, the monsters are full of personality, and Atomic Guy is hot as fuck.

I actually like the SNES port of War of the Monsters 2 the best. The gameplay is changed to a sidescrolling beat em up for some reason, which is one of my favorite genres.

Can anyone tell me what it was like to buy games with no way of knowing whether they were good or not?

My family used to go to video stores to rent movies pretty much every weekend and I was allowed to rent a game to try. Many games I ended up buying were ones I loved so much that I kept renting them over and over so my parents would get them for me for my BDay or Christmas. That and playing friend's games was the best way to try new stuff.
>>
>>2915320
This. I wasn't just the dark ages before the internet.

Besides you could also rent and a lot of smaller gaming stores actually had very knowledgeable people you could ask about what games to buy.
