Angry Black Guy: Hey! You still don't have a Celecovision?
Atari gamer: Huh?
Angry Black Guy: What are you waiting for? Atari to make one?

Colecovision crushes 2600. Probably an even better choice for backward compatibility than a 7800
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUMzVkzoRjs
Hmmm guess I'll be playing Cosmic Avenger while all you fags who don't have a Coleco jack off to midgets vomiting on each other or whatever losers do
So I hear that the Japanese version has this elaborate story line with animated cutscenes and branching mission paths that are pretty much obliterated in the US version, but is the US one still worth playing?
>>3177676
It's a meme don't take it seriously.
>>3177676
It's butchered in the story department but a good game. Still inferior to the JAP version though. You might wait for the translation project, if it ever gets completed.
>>3177676
Fucking Su-37 on the cover. Also check out /aceg/ on /vg/ if you want to hear it from the mouth of a horse.
So I just picked up this thing in the box at a garage sale it called the oddesey 2 anyone know anything about it?
I've had one in my basement for a couple years. It would kind of cut out after playing a game for a little bit. I couldn't find any good guides on which transistors are usually the problems, like I found for Atari. I'm not pro enough to figure any of that stuff out on my own, so I've never fixed it. Apparently KC Munchkin is the must have game because it's a Pac-Man clone? IDK
I had one when they originally came out, and we had to replace the joysticks multiple times.
I have one now due to nostalgia and it was fun for about 10 minutes.
Anyway, there are some interesting games for it, though most are average clones of 2600 games.
>Jee I wonder if google will say anything if I type in odyssey 2
>nah better ask /vr/
So I was showing TMNT Tournament Fighters to my 5 yeard-old nephew (I would go easy on him and let him win half the time, obviously), and I decided to show him the secret characters for shits.
I told him to pick Rat King, completely forgetting just how broken he was. He went on to completely shit on me, even perfecting me once. Even he commented on how easy it was.
Granted, I am the furthest thing from an expert at this game and I hadn't played it in a long time, but come the fuck on.
>inb4 git gud

Joy Mech Fight has the ULTIMATE broken character in a fighting game. The final boss, Houhou, becomes playable once you've unlocked every character. The dude is basically an automatic win unless you are absolute shit AND the other player picks a top tier character. It's nearly impossible to lose otherwise.
Interestingly, Joy Mech Fight also has the WORST character in any fighting game. A dude name Zako who's nearly impossible to win with unless the gap in skill is obscene and even then you basically...

A classic
This might have been talked about when it first launched, but I forgot about it up until now. Did anyone here end up backing the project? Is anyone looking forward to the game?

Well at least they ripped off a good game
Got my Japanese MegaDrive today.
So the question is... What do I do with the other one?
These 3rd world pictures generally give me a good laugh. I see the most random tiny noname TVs in them.
throw it in the trash and get a real console like the genesis

There are countries other than America Anon.
is the neo geo the ultimate in retro collecting?
>>3176909
Collecting is for faggots
AES? I guess so, if only because prices are insane and you are paying a premium simply to have it on AES as opposed to the equally official MVS carts. Official MVS carts of the same games are often much, much cheaper, but they just don't look as "pretty" and are a little bit less user-friendly in terms of figuring out how to run them (not to mention that with a Unibios you can even access the AES-exclusive modes of games).

Your opinion on Alex the Kid's games
>Alex the Kid
That better be bait, son.
I only ever played Alex Kidd in Miracle World, but it was one of my favourites. Though, looking back, that game is bullshit levels of hard.
It stinks
>>3176593
First one is a neat game and only overlooked because it was on the SMS. Lots of cool power ups like helicopters and motorcycles.
Haven't played Alex Kid in Shinobi World but people say it's the best of the bunch. Have to catch up on that.
The Genesis game was meh. Didn't play much of it since it was a snorefest.
I was a Nintendo kid, but I want to try what other companies had to offer, so I'm thinking about buying a Mega Drive (Genesis).
I looked through the libary, watched videos, read descriptions, looked at screenshots, etc. for everything that sounded interesting and came up with the following:
>Sonic the Hedgehog
>Phantasy Star II
>Outrun
>Mutant League Hockey
>King of Monsters
>Altered...

Personally I'd start with PS4, unless you like grindy RPGs
>>3176443
>Sonic the Hedgehog
Get 2 and 3 as well
I was also a nintendo kid, but i recently discovered gunstar heroes and have been playing the shit out of it. it's a bit pricey if you're buying physical copies, but it's a truly awesome game.
Are any of these USB SNES controllers actual good quality?
Apparently Buffalo still makes a pretty good SNES knockoff controller but another thing to consider is that 1:1 clones like in your pic can often just pcb swap with a real SNES controller. Also, keep usb controller adapters in mind. That's what I use, with real hardware. Maybe you live somewhere retro oem controllers are rarer though.
>>3176530
>That's what I use, with real hardware.
Wait, you use a USB -> SNES adapter to play on your actual SNES?
>>3176429
The ibuffalo ones are perfection
Any of you ever try doing something like programming your own NES game?
I tried making an Atari 2600 game where you played as General Lee shooting waves of Union soldiers. Development stopped indefinitely when I realized I didn't know what the fuck I was doing.
>>3176369
Well I want to get a job as a game developer eventually so I might someday...
Where do you draw the line between "weird edgecase of the game system" and "glitch"?
For example, in Mario 1, any time you make contact with an enemy, as long as you have downward momentum, it's considered a stomp, which goes to you. If you don't have downward momentum, it's considered a hit, which goes to the enemy. This means that you can safely tomp falling goombas from the bottom as long as you are travelling downward when the goomba hits your head. Is this a glitch, or is it just a weird emergent edgecase?
If exploiting a...

A glitch is something that occurs outside of what is intended. It's an abnormailty. Your Mario example is interesting and odd, but the game is working as it was designed to, so it's not a glitch.
>>3176347
mario is designed to work like that so its not a bug, just weird programming. A bug is something like certain Final Fantasy 1 spells just not fucking working.
>>3176373
One might say the same for all the weird wall jumps and passing through walls and stuff but that seems a little murkier.
FUCK HELP ME CHOOSEone game only
>>3176274
As much as I like Outlaws, I think Unreal Gold will get you the most valuable time.
>>3176274
Quake is a must play but Unreal is objectively the best of them all. Outlaws is one you have to get round to at some point as well.
>>3176274
Just pirate them and your problem is solved, if you feel bad about it, then go ahead and buy them in the future from GOG
You know how in the original Super Mario Brothers, as well as in original SNES version of Super Mario World, if you took one hit you reverted back to small Mario, even if you had a second level power up?
The US version of SMB3 was the game that introduced the mechanic of taking one hit, reverting to Super Mario, then taking another hit, and reverting to small Mario.
Was this a good change or a bad change?
>>3176260
>as well as in original SNES version of Super Mario World
incorrect
>>3176285
I know it's the other way for the GBA version, but I'm pretty sure it's the one-hit way in the SNES version.
>>3176285
Definitely does on mine.
