Is this game actually quite hard or am I just shit at it?
I find myself having to take on one group of enemies at a time, then run back to find somewhere to rest or go back to temple to cure disease/poison.

>I find myself having to take on one group of enemies at a time, then run back to find somewhere to rest or go back to temple to cure disease/poison.
Yeah, that's how it starts. It will be a while until you have some real firepower.
PROTIP: Take advantage of being able to dodge arrows and shit in real-time and kite enemies while shooting at them.
>>2921876
I've been having trouble stopping my spell users from getting fucked up. At the end of every fight that's slightly challenging they're always unconscious or dead
>>2921876
How many levels should I take in the skills? Just enough to Master them? Or do i max them all the way to 50 or whatever
Anyone like the Disciples games? Are they better or worse than HoM&M?
I like the first one I played the shit out of it and beat a bunch of the campaigns. I wouldn't even really compare it to HoM&M either it's its own game and is good for being a variation on heroes. I liked leveling up my characters and the roleplaying aspects of it.
>>2920068
Yes. Better.
I just wrote a really long post about Disciples but before sending it my pc died so fuck it.
>>2920068
I played the second one. When I bought it it was on the elf-themed expansion, I think. But I didn't play the expansion content anyway so that isn't too important.
It was a fun enough game. The in-battle sprites were really nice. I played through the undead campaign and found it to be a normal turn-based strategy game, meaning that it was fun but almost always either too easy (because the AI was extremely stupid) or too hard (because I became lax and didn't make a serious enough effort to win)....

/vr/'s opionion on Duke Nukem 3D. Either it be favourite level, favourite weapon, or l Favourite quote or least favourite enemy. Or just anything in general about the game and it's expansions.
There is tons of level on workshop if u have steam version + you get mods like dn3d beach and l.a etc..
Yeah the support for the game is really good. And for good reason.
>>2805070
The workshop is a good start, and it's good to bring a renew popularity to the game and some usermaps, but in terms of quality and quantity of user created content for the game it barely scratches the surface.
I did upload quite a lot of maps there myself (mine and some of my friends or fav maps) but tons of people never bothered to upload their maps there, and also tons of maps and mods aren't compatible with Megaton anyway.
What is your opinion on Solar Jetman?
It's a pretty unique game in the NES library.
Physics-based 360 degree movement. Big open levels with various degree of gravity. Pretty cool.
That last level/boss when it suddenly turned into a side scrolling shooter was awful though.
>>2919423
Never played it but that's a pretty awesome title for a game. Sounds like a 70s anime.
Lunar Lander clone with many added gameplay elements. Unique fun title.

That really sums it up.
Is there any way to play a 32x on a 16-bit Sega Genesis? I recently went to a Disk Replay store and saw Doom for $3.55, but the clerk was kind enough to inform me I had to have some sort of thing that would connect into my Sega that would allow this. It sounded cryptic at the time and I possibly am misremembering what he said, so I came to you guys wondering what kind of hardware he might have meant.
I'm not a lazy ass kid so I did my own research into it and did indeed find that there are more kinds of Sega Genesi than just the 16-bit one, but I wasn't able...

Yes.
It's this thing you need and it should work on any model 1 or 2 genesis.
Hi /vr/. Which NES level do you think is harder:
>the last level of Batman
>the last level of TMNT
pic related
>>2919195
the last level of TMNT isn't hard, just that stupid fucking last hallway if you dont have scrolls
if you're at the end of batman, you HAD to master the wall jump. it's tricky, but you can absolutely grasp what you're supposed to do if you're at that point
TMNT is much cheaper with its difficulty, and is way harder, way earlier into the game.
the final boss in Batman, however, is where it gets impossible. I've seen lots of videos of people doing it, but I would've never figured it out on my own.

How do you feel about CIVIZARD 魔術の系譜?
It's not often you see a game like this on PS1.
I feel like I don't understand chink gibberish, why would you post that?
Seems to be a Japanese RTS. Just play Watercraft.
I love exploration in games but have been troubled by a question which I cannot answer. Is it really so bad for something to be obtuse, to be hard to find and perhaps not even indicated to exist? I know there's talk that secrets should imply their existence without being obviously visible, but is that really a secret if it's telling you that it exists? I'm troubled by this because it seems like there are games both good and bad which use both types of secrets. I just don't know how to classify the good from the bad, and I wonder if there are any patterns...

I only have a problem if it's something essential to advance, or if the hunt isn't already a core game mechanic.
>>2919612
I think the mechanics needed to find something should at least be introduced, although not necessarily in regards to the finding really well hidden stuff.
For example, once the "bomb through walls" mechanic is introduce in any Zelda game, I feel everything after that is fair game to be as hidden as possible.
Counterpoint, I feel that SMB3's white blocks as are being discussed in another post are a little too obscure. I feel that there should have been an enemy that perhaps encouraged you...

in general i'm entirely okay with secrets being extremely esoteric as long as they're not blatantly nonsensical or tedious.
if every bomb wall in your game breaks down after 1 bomb, it's probably an awful idea to make something "secret" by just making it take 5 bombs to break instead of 1.
and for hinting at their existence, there's no universal rule, any style of hiding or not hiding things can work if the game is designed cleverly around it.
i think ideally the most impactful...

I was watching a Crash Bandicoot run done at AGDQ this year and it dawned on me that the PSX Crash series is probably the best 3D platformer ever made.
>aged exceptionally well
>smooth controls, absolutely no moment in which one is left saying to themselves "I did not deserve to die"
>character design isn't bad
>first installment came out a month after SM64 andis truly better than SM64

Only Crash Team Racing was good.
The 2.5D platformers sucked.
Don't even compare Crash 1 and SM64. Each level is a straight hallway with a little bit of left/right movement available.
Banjo series is objectively the best retro 3D platformer.
>Coco Bandicoot in heels and miniskirt.
She should had wore that outfit more often.
Do you prefer the European/Japanese SNES design or the North American version? Personally I prefer the Euro version.
EU/JP console with NA carts.
EU/JP. This has been asked at least three times this week.
US SNES and carts are butt-ugly.
Earthbound thread.
What do you think of this game? Do you like it? Is it overrated? What are its strengths, and what are its weaknesses?
I tried playing it about 5 years ago, and I made it to the part where you first meet Jeff before I got bored with it and quit. I just started another playthrough, and I've resolved to make sure I finish it this time. I'm going to really take my time and explore and talk to the NPCs, maybe that will get me more invested in the world.
Love it, but I got into it as a kid and I think if you only started playing it when you were an adult you missed on something very special and very different and won't ever be able to experience the magic that only a child can feel when playing this game.
how many times have we had this thread hit bump limit
its the same fucking discussion every time
>>2921347
Huh, I actually just thought to myself today how a lot of the hype for Earthbound probably isn't based off of childhood nostalgia, since the game wasn't a top seller when it was first released and a lot of the current fans found the game in their teens or even 20s. I'll take your word for it though.
>>2921350
I've only been browsing /vr/ for a couple months and I've never seen an Earthbound thread. People tend not to mention the game...

Playan' this. Pretty fun. Question: should I have bought the map from the library dude? I feel like I'm cheating having it. Should I start over?
>>2920531
It's not such a big thing, young Master. iirc it isn't even covers the whole castle
>>2920531
The map doesn't show secret areas or anything, it just gives you ideas on where you should go next if you get lost.
How is it cheating if the game allows you to easily buy it so early on?
