>Because he wasn't that great

He was. He clearly had the foresight and clarity of mind that many Emperor - despite their great military feats - never had when it came to domestic matters. Julian didn't simply try to expand the Empire through his wars with the Sassanids: he also attempted to revive the Roman republican spirit by cutting off the dependence of the cities on the Imperial government, trying to make the cities - and the citizens - once more self-reliant and...

If you'd read Stirner you wouldn't even ask that question.

The only reason you should act "good" is because you want to, because it brings you joy to help others. The only reason you should do "bad" things is the same. Fear of punishment or wishing for some reward (whether it be karma, or favor/disfavor with the gods, social pressures etc) are what Stirner would have called Spooks; Forces (thoughts, morals, institutions) leading, coercing, a person away from his own nature.

continuing this

At first glance this would be seen to promote hedonism (whatever brings you pleasure, sensual or otherwise) but it's not. It calls for great introspection. You have to know yourself fully before you can act upon your nature consciously.

I am looking for podcasts that deal with history primarily, but I also wouldn't mind ones dealing with philosophy and theology.

Some eras I am especially interested in:

Sumer, Assyrians, Babylonians, Khmer, Mycanaen civilizations.

Pre-judaic, pre-christian and pre-islamic religion.

Song, Han and Tong-era China.

The rise and fall of the Ottoman empire.

The Arabian caliphates from ~1000BC onwards.

Middle eastern and arabic geopolitics today.

The formation of the African Nations, the scramble for Africa, the decolonization...

Can't help with the history stuff but since you mentioned Theology, the Ancient Faith website has 123 Podcasts with 25,592 total episodes, and 162 Specials with 1,428 episodes. I'm sure you can find something to interest you amongst all that.

Good luck in your search, anon!

In the first and second world wars, the feeding and containing of prisoners was a great issue.
I have a pretty retarded question, why haven't they just cut off both of the prisoners index fingers (or the whole hands) and sent them home? This way they couldn't fight further, and they wouldn't need to be fed.
Or am I being too naïve?

You can still shoot, just cut off their right hand.
>>
>>1387144
That's a good solution as well. I think even the prisoners would've been okay with that. Better than starving to death.
Or did everyone hate the enemy soldiers so much that letting them go home was the last thing they wanted to see?
>>
Armies would rather enemy soldiers surrender willingly than fight. Soldiers facing guaranteed mutilation are less likely to surrender.

We all know the horrors that far left, such as Soviet Russia, and the far right, such as Nazi Germany. What about the horrors of liberal governance?

Do we have any examples in history of 'far liberalism' atrocities? Can it be blamed on pure ideology? I am starting to think that liberalism causes different kind of injustices.

Also rather talk of historical examples if there are any.

Discuss.

You're going to need to tell us what you mean by liberalism
>>
>>1390746
You are absolutely right. So I will check something for a good definition.

I would put emphasis on freedom. I do not consider most SJWs for example as liberal since they actually advocate a lot of freedom restrictions (such as speech and culture).

Why do people use those archaic distinctions of political right-left.

Should philosophers be obliged to study elementary math (differential geometry, functional analysis, stochastic processes), general relativity and quantum mechanics before being allowed to talk about metaphysics or ontology?

I always cringe when I see philosophers believe in absolute Newtonian time and causality, or when they only think in finite dimensions and are not aware that infinite dimensionality is a possibility. I also can't take someone seriously who thinks the opposite of free will has to be determinism, just because he never heard of quantum randomness.

This is my issue with philosophy is, and maybe this is because of not being in the field, but they seem to ignore most other scientific fields.

I would say that in general philosophers need to be learned more broadly. Preferably with as diverse fields as possible so they do not yet again develop tunnel vision.

I personally would go with complexity science and cognitive science.
>>
I agree.

I saw a philosopher saying the other day how the universe was a big mechanical chimpanzee who wanted to cry. I also saw a few philosophers saying that maths was a made up past time for fat people; they then proceeded to rob a store and say the opposite of free will is determinism.
>>
Thank fuck for this post

Most philosophers I know laugh when you say the scientific method is useful, they then proceed to chuck croissants at you and say that the opposite of free will has to be historic materialism.

The spear is a military weapon, good for fighting in formation as its greater reach allows the second and third ranks to contribute and also deters cavalry charges. What knights used was a lance, again for its reach and its ability to concentrate the horse's kinetic energy.

These weapons are however less ideal for disorganized fighting or single combat, as once the enemy gets too close you really can't use it effectively.
>>
>>1392534
Yes I'm sure someone could just run past the spear tip and the spearman would be too retarded to readjust his grip.

The "/pol/ narrative" as you call it is simply called "the truth". This guy has come around from his idealistic libertarianism to a more pragmatic nationalism. It's a very common shift in attitude.
