Yale Courses are pretty comfy. They have full lectures by people like Donald Kagan that are really interesting.
Also, I know they get shit here but School of Life and Academy of Ideas are actually not that bad. They're really good as an introduction to ideas before diving in.

How will the lie of man made climate change be portrayed in future history books? One of the biggest scams of this century I think.
Seems to me that no matter what, it will be written as, the bad guys resisting it for too long, and heres examples of why it went on too long.
I find most climate change enthusiasts are selfish, in talking about stuff like coral bleaching, when you push them, they really only care because they think coral is pretty. Rather than caring for the species.
The age of the dinosaurs is commonly theorized to have ended in an atmosphere-related mass extinction event.
You know how Facism got a bad name because German fascists had a complicated relationship with jews? American conservatives are about to do the same thing.
Why did Japan industrialize so quickly vs. China?
China was swimming in natural resources, had access to western technology and methods, sent numerous foreign missions. Japan had next to no natural resources but had all the rest.
Why did they succeed where China failed?
>>936798
Neither Japan nor China actually liked Westernization and both did what they could to prevent it. That said, Japan was the weaker of the two.
>>936798
1.) Japan opened up later than China, and thus could take some lessons from China's disastrous modernization(or lack there of).
2.) Radical modernizers overthrew the Shogunate(aka the traditionalists) in 1868 and dragged the country towards their vision.
Those are two of the basic, broad reasons.
>>936798
Japan was unable to resist being opened up to the West, but once it happened it was agreed to be an inevitability. Both Shogunate and imperial factions were pro-westernization, even if the Imperials cried crocodile tears about how bullied Japan was getting.
On the other hand the degenerate and ineffectual Qing resisted change even when they lost successive wars against Western powers. Not much surprise that ex-nomads would be shitty at actually ruling an empire desu.

Could the Japanese have ever won against USA in the Pacific Theater or was it doomed to fail from the start?
Also, how good of a General Was MacArthur?

>Could the Japanese have ever won against USA in the Pacific Theater
No.
>or was it doomed to fail from the start?
Yes.
In any scenario with at least a semblance of realism the above are literally the only possible and complete answers. The US had somewhere about fifteen times the industrial capacity of Japan. The US built over 140 carriers during the war. The Empire of Japan built seventeen. The US built ten battleships during the war. Japan...

Not without a spectacular victory by Germany in Europe completely changing the situation.
They military knew they could make short term gains such as that at Pearl Harbor, they believed this could tide them over until their allies were victorious. The alternative was to accept that their years of war in China were for nothing (in reality the US may have left Japan alone to counter the soviet union and communism in China had they never attacked the US).
MacArthur was competent but not exceptional, a naval war on this scale using new technology had never been fought...

>Could the Japanese have ever won against USA in the Pacific Theater or was it doomed to fail from the start?
Depends on how you define "winning". There's no way they could have won in a the direct, material sense, of pushing back the U.S. and launching some kind of invasion that stoms to Washington the way that the U.S. could have done to Tokyo.
They could have, however, been too much trouble and too expensive and bloody to take down that they could have...

How now did the Iranian peoples of Persia become settled into their own land, while everyone to their north and in Europe just melted away?
Avars apparently settled in North Africa with the Visigoths, held land in France for a while, until they also moved onto Spain and this is stunning to me.
If the Confederates had won, either on their own or with British intervention, what might an independent Confederacy have looked like after 50 years?
After 100 years?
Would it have survived to the current year? Would slavery still be around?
Like shit because their economy was collapsing and a confederation wouldn't have worked. It didn't work the first it was tired either.
The CSA had no chance to win the war.
An independent CSA would lack the infrastructure and industry that the north had. It's economy was an agricultural one that was reliant on slave labour. It's going to have to spend some time catching up with the USA.

I realize this overlaps with politics, but to post in in pol, will never get a serious discussion. Disclaimer here-- I'm neither Jew, Muslim, nor Evangelical Christian. I'd like to consider myself a somewhat neutral observer.
I've gotten very interested in this question over the past few years (planning to write a Master's Thesis dealign with an aspect of it), and from what I can see, The Jews are in the wrong from every aspect.
Whether the Jews should ever have been given the land in 1948 and the...dubious way they went about getting the...

II neglected to add, at the first Zionist Conference in 1897 in Basel, Switzerland, Hertzel essentially laid out the Jewish plan very cynically: "The Question of the Orient is now facing the world, and the Great European war must come. when it does, we must be best positioned to take advantage of this and have a seat at the table. With my watch in hand do I await this terrible hour.."

Why are iron, salt, and other minerals thought to repel malicious spirits?
Look at me.
We >>>/x/ now.
>>936816
They are rare/valuable commodities. Also salt preserves and purifies food and iron is used to make steel, the idea they change and purify things.
>>936816
Disease had, in many cultures, been thought to be caused by malicious spirits.
Disease is instead usually caused by some variety of microbial colonization or from toxins created by microbes.
Salt and minerals like silver create conditions that inhibit microbial growth.
This inhibition reduces instances of disease among practicing humans.
Thus, "malicious spirits" have been warded away by the use of such items..
Okay, got a good idea that is almost exactly like another idea that has already been done and is somewhat successful:
How do we bring back armoured fighting? Specifically to America. The Euros and Russians have their thing (with a few Americans) but the there isn't really anything for us Americans here in America. Is there a way to change that? How would we drum up the interest in watching armoured lads bash each other with a weapons? Americans love violence so it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to do, honestly.
Any ideas? I think if it could...
