While shopping in Walmart, you suddenly realize that you are, without a doubt, going to be transported to Rome, circa 200 AD, in one hour. What do you bring? What will you do once you're there?
HARD MODE: Walmart doesn't have any books.
For me it would be:
1. Salt and Spices, I need capital to start out with, and that was worth a lot.
2. Potatoes, since I'll likely be needing food to grow for my new life as a peasant farmer, and potatoes don't kill your teeth, unlike stone milled wheat.
3. Rifle, and a pile of ammo. I'll be needing protein, and home defense.
4. All sorts of water purifiers. I'll be damned if I die of dysentery.
What will I do? I'll sell my salt and spices, use that to accrue land and equipment to farm, preferably something seashore, and then proceed to grow potatoes. With basic sustenance figured out, I might sell my knowledge of modern technology, like black powder, or something.

I'd spend all my money on rifles and amo. On arrival I would demonstrate their terrible power, and then sell them as "magic sticks of death" for exorbitant prices. I would teach my scant knowledge of modern science and philosophical developments and be considered the wisest living man.

You have to set a price limit - or else I'd take everything.

This. I guess I could overdraft my card and not give a shit because in an hour ill be in Rome. Does whats in my shopping cart count or do I need to have officially purchased it?

In what field?
Everyone is wrong sometimes.
Uni-grammar has been criticised.
His post-ideological "manufacturing consent" has been criticised.
His idea of "ideology" as false truth (basically the Marxist idea) has been criticised.
He has been wrong here and there.
It is very hard to criticise him in politics above "you got this minor detail wrong" since he doesn't usually engage in vast theories, and then he usually sticks to the "formal facts."

Does he actually say anything other than capitalism is bad? Since that has already been proven wrong.

By its definition does "The theory of evolution" apply universally or is it an earthbound theory? As all things are relative in one way or another and the universe being as large and old as it is I wouldn't be suprised if a species furthered themselves just for the desire of it and not adapting to a change.

Is "swords were useless in real combat" just a meme?
If they were useless, why were they so widespread?
Surely mace or axe or spear are far easier to make.

Yes.

Because it it's üselessness is a meme.
>Surely mace or axe or spear are far easier to make.
Aint got no thrust in axes and maces, spears suck in close confines.

That said, you could *surpise surprise* CARRY MULTIPLE WEAPONS WITH YOU.

Okay, but argument is often ''swords are useless against armored opponents'', so why were they used so much even in medieval warfare if they were really useless?

What guerrilla tactics did Charlie use to rekt the american soldiers?
Or was it the disorganization and lack of support of the Vietnam war that caused the defeat of the U.S. in the conflict?

The USA ended involvement with the Paris Peace Accords. I'm not sure you can cite an actual, sizable confrontation that the USA lost in Vietnam. The body (conservative) body count (not including non-combatants) was 10-1 in USA favor. After the USA left, North re-invaded.

I know it's much more fun to say the USA "lost", but in general it's much more fun to be an idiot in about everything.
>>
>>1252976
When the war broke out there were no real objectives to take from the NVA so Vietnam ended up being a war of attrition wherein the US forces would basically fucking announce themselves to the enemy with their choppers. This meant that the NVA in addition to having the home-field advantage they had the privilege of getting to choose the majority of battles throughout the war. To be completely fair though, if it weren't for the American people lacking any kind of a fucking back bone and sticking through the conflict than the Americans (give a year or two) would have ended up victorious in that war of attrition.

So is it the same God?

I chose pantheism since it was the closest, though not a perfect fit.

Atheism doesn't actually make sense. We can acknowledge the existence of gods — gods exist like good and evil do. It is relative, but relativity does not disprove its existence, rather it proves the complexity of its existence. God is a symbol of our language that has a powerful meaning — it means that which you deem to have unbeatable power.

>Were you born into your religion

I don't have a religion, just a philosophy. I don't need tenets to dictate my spirituality. My mother is Protestant and my father closest resembles an atheist Luciferian, for whatever that's worth. I was never told to believe anything. I was barely given a basic discipline to follow while growing up. I formed my own based on what life needed from me and from what I wanted.

What the hell?

Why were all European monarchs related? Is it a huge conspiracy, the result of eugenics and selective breeding or superior genes which coincidentally came out in all countries as dominant?

No wonder communism was so popular. Monarchy is a joke.

Who would they fighting in this war?

Why were Japanese soldiers so brave and honorable as fuck? I don't care that they massacred Chinks at Nanking but they never ran away and always foight to the end.

Take the last note of Tadamichi Kuribayashi for example:

>The battle is entering its final chapter. Since the enemy's landing, the gallant fighting of the men under my command has been such that even the gods would weep. In particular, I humbly rejoice in the fact that they have continued to fight bravely though utterly empty-handed and ill-equipped against a land, sea, and air attack of a material superiority such as surpasses the imagination. One after another they are falling in the ceaseless and ferocious attacks of the enemy. For this reason, the situation has arisen whereby I must disappoint your expectations and yield this important place to the hands of the enemy. With humility and sincerity, I offer my repeated apologies. Our ammunition is gone and our water dried up. Now is the time for us to make the final counterattack and fight gallantly, conscious of the Emperor's favor, not begrudging our efforts though they turn our bones to powder and pulverize our bodies. I believe that until the island is recaptured, the Emperor's domain will be eternally insecure. I therefore swear that even when I have become a ghost I shall look forward to turning the defeat of the Imperial Army to victory. I stand now at the beginning of the end. At the same time as revealing my inmost feelings, I pray earnestly for the unfailing victory and security of the Empire. Farewell for all eternity."

Also composed some death poems.

>Unable to complete this heavy task for our country

>Arrows and bullets all spent, so sad we fall.

>But unless I smite the enemy,

>My body cannot rot in the field. Yea, I shall be born again seven times And grasp the sword in my hand.

>When ugly weeds cover this island,

>My sole thought shall be the Imperial Land.

He knew he was fighting a futile battle but he never surrendered and he died fighting with his men. He was poorly equipped against a far superior force but never gave up.

>The exact circumstances of Kuribayashi's death remain mysterious. He was most likely killed in action on the early morning of 26 March 1945, while leading his surviving soldiers in a three-pronged assault against sleeping Marines and Air Force ground crews. Kuribayashi and his men silently slashed tents, bayoneted sleeping men, and lobbed hand grenades. According to the official United States Marine Corps History, "The Japanese attack on the early morning of March 26th was not a banzai charge, but an excellent plan aiming to cause maximum confusion and destruction."[23] The assault climaxed in a hand-to-hand battle to the death between the men of both armies. The General's body could not be identified afterwards for he had removed all officer's insignia in order to fight as a regular soldier.

Because when you're fighting on a bunch of islands against an enemy with total naval supremacy, there's nowhere to go.

They sure as fuck ran away and surrendered in places like Manchuria, and against the odd successful Chinese offensive.
>>
Everybody knew that nobody was taking prisoners alive at that point. What few prisoners the u.s. took in the pacific were usually just shot because they didnt treat the beitish well and they were afraid of tricks.

Paying soldiers who captured enemies with ice cream increased survival rates of japanese soldiers from 1/100 to 1/7
